I think I know how this is going to go:

"Mr. Walters, did you--at any point during the day--bend over?"
"I don't know, maybe a couple of times to pick something up or to tie my shoes..."
"Will you demonstrate this for the court?"

And if this was a woman wearing a small bikini, nobody would have hassled her. This is gender discrimination if you ask me.

A police thug hassling a citizen participating in a Pride parade? How surprising.

Last year, I went to the Atlanta Pride Parade and received the same ridiculing treatment over my outfit. I was wearing four inch heels, a tiara, and a leather sock that completely covered my genitalia. It was my way of showing support for my people's way of life. I hadn't marched two blocks before the police pulled me over to the side and said that I indecent. They roughed me up as they cuffed me and I accidentally lost my balance and fell into one of the officers. He took it as aggression and responded by beating with his nightstick. As he was assaulting me, my leather sock was torn off, exposing my penis and testicles. A police dog lunged and bit me, tearing my scrotum.

The refused me medical treatment and instead took me to jail. They through me into a packed holding cell, completely naked, with dozens of maniacs. There, I was sexually assaulted multiple times as they authorities looked on and laughed. That part wasn't so bad, though. Sort of like throwing the rabbit into the briar patch.

I'm sick of reading stories like this, but hopefully the press will lead to reform and better treatment of revelers.

Then you've not got the faintest clue what S&M gear looks like.

Even if he were wearing S&M gear, what you're saying is "He was asking for it"

Do you really mean that?

He wasn't just wearing the loincloth, he had a thong on under it.

I don't understand why he couldn't read the citation, but normally telling the cops yo won't sign isn;t the way to go.

That is not S&M gear. You are a moron. That's leather, which is a whole different scene. You are a moron. Which can sometimes overlap with S&M, but clearly not in this case. You are a moron.

Did I mention that you are a moron? Cuz I meant to tell you that.

Assuming the outfit shown is the one he was actually wearing during the incident, this is pretty obviously an instance of "putting the queer in his place." I hope the guy gets a large enough settlement to retire.

2012-03-14 08:51:57 AM
He should damned well have been allowed to read the citation. You want to read the stuff that you sign.

I'm kinda on the borderline on this. The loincloth covers the naughty bits when at rest, but there could be some wardrobe malfunctions if he were in motion. And although there are NO allegations of this ITFA, the flashing opportunities with a loincloth are, er, fabulous.

He should take this to court, and he'll likely win. It's a silly, arbitrary act of harassment and someone needs to be called out on it.

The loin cloth is quite wide. I know San Diego is a different city, but guys go out in a lot less than this in San Fransisco during the Fulson Street Fair.

Pretty much. Not that I really give a damn about what a dude wears, but if females can get away with wearing clothes that are tight enough to see nips and camel toe and are barely large enough to cover both, dudes can wear the equivalent. And really... if someone expected to not see something like that at a pride parade, they are freakin' dumb.

sorry, not everyone who is wrongfully arrested can get five million dollars. that's just farking retarded. you can get five million dollars for being wrongfully imprisoned for decades, not for being wrongfully arrested for an afternoon. if you personally want to give the guy money, go ahead (just don't do it right before having sex with him, since that might be misinterpreted in a court of law)

Pretty much. I'd never go out in public dressed like that, but people should have every right to. And making snarky "oh it's what he really wanted jokes" pisses me off, as (A) we're supposed to be protected by law enforcement in this country, not harassed by it and (B) local police officers in this country have a long and well-earned reputation for not only being homophobic but for going out of their way to harass the gay community. (About ten years ago, here in Philly, the local cops harassed and abused the first openly gay member of the PPD to the point that he blew his brains while sitting in his patrol car.)

Agreed. Myself, I'm for letting your freak flag fly. Especially if it's for a festival where people would know what they were likely to see. But I could see some concern by authorities that the garment could be used in a lascivious display of waggling. I think everyone is happy that it was that guy, who is totally pulling the look off, but rules can be rules. And it sounds like he got a bad deal from the PD as well. There's no reason to lock someone up for this.

Reading the citation isn't the point. The only thing you are signing is the promise to appear which typically reads something like:

"WITHOUT ADMITTING GUILT I PROMISE TO APPEAR AT THE TIME AND PLACE INDICATED."

You really have only two choices at that point

1. Sign it and be released on your promise.
2. Don't sign it and go to jail until you can go in front of a judge/magistrate and make arrangements to appear.

When is the court date for your lawsuit? The Atlanta PD just paid out a cool $1 million over the illegal raid of a gay bar a few years ago.

Though 4" heels, a tiara, and a leather pouch? I thought you gay guys had taste and fashion sense? To be honest (as a straight guy), you really aren't helping your cause.

You know what? You're right. Even though FARK is a great place to be the occasional dick (greater Internet farkwad theory,) I think insensitive statements should never be considered funny, even though I am guilty of doing just that today (and on other rare occasions.)
At least you picked a fight with someone who's willing to admit they goofed and not a genuine homophobic bigot that would never change their behavior.
