Don't worry, there are still some more Doobies left, and they're getting fatter, minute by minute.

And they say weed doesn't kill. It's obviously a gateway drug, leads to a lot of nachos and hot dogs.

Was Hossack the drummer who hit the gong with the flaming mallet when Rerun got busted bootlegging the show?

Better keep my Michael McDonald arcade stick (new window), just in case.

"Aw, man! The Doobie Brothers broke up! Shiat, when'd that happen!?"

The Doobie Brothers were all over the radio when I was growing up. But now that I look back, I didn't really like their music.

When you listened to AM radio, whether you liked the song or not had nothing to do with whether or not you listened to the radio. You turned the radio on, and that's what was on. And when you went to the movies, you went to THE movie the week--or you didn't. There weren't 75 movies to choose from, plus anything you wanted at your house.

Now get the fark out of here, with your ipods and your ipicks and your ipanders.

The Doobies are an okay band. I grew up listening to my older brother's albums, and they had all the early DB vinyl. It was radio-friendly 1970s pop-rock...good background music when you're working on your car, but not something I ever seek out to listen to.

They were one of (if not THE) first bands to actually name themselves in reference to the evil weed.

That's gotta count for something.

As musicians, they are/were no slouches either.

They used to be the house band at a Hell's Angels bar, that's how cool they were.

I didn't know he was actually not touring with them much in recent years... but literally a couple of days back they announced their 40th Anniv tour with Chicago.

Just got tickets to see Chicago and the Doobie Brothers this August...so I guess I'm glad to hear he wasn't actively touring with them, per the article.

I saw the Doobie Brothers play last summer. It was fricking phenomenal. I've seen a bunch of these 70's band play here in town (they get pretty good line-ups for the summer rib fest), like Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, Ted Nugent, Kansas etc.

The Doobie Brothers blew the rest of them out of the water. Most of the other bands seem pretty tired and just going through the motions (and to be fair, the original band members are all in their 60's, some with good portions of them dead and new musicians taking their places).

I literally can't say enough about how great that Doobie Brothers show was.

I always heard it as "I'd like to hear that funky Dixie Lampert and mama come and take me by the hand."
