T.M.S.: Big deal.

Rush is not going to disappear anytime soon. These gross accusations are entirely inflated.

He is a huge star with massive ratings and a gigantic fan base. The oversized profits he brings to Clear Channel are filling the ample pockets of their investors as they should be. And there is nothing fat-cat democrats like George Soros can do about it.

Go ahead and rent the Goodyear blimp. Fly it around oversized liberal enclaves such as Aspen and paste "Rush Limbaugh was mean to a college broad" on the bigassed sides of the hulking airship.

See how much pressure that will load onto the existing tonnage libtards already thrust upon this giant of media? None!

Sorry if that hurts anyones overinflated ego.

No matter how much weight the libs bring down nothing is going to stop those bulging bags of cash from El Rushbo's meaty fingers.

That chicken...keep farking it.

No, manure is actually useful. Properly spread, it fertilizes the soil, helping new plants to grow. Plus, not even concentrated pig shiat stinks nearly as much as Westboro Baptist.

pxlboy:
That anyone even takes or took her seriously is f*cking ponderous.

You must mean the Democrats, then - they just put out that ridiculous movie to trash her, three years after she held any political office at all. They've been giving her free rent in their heads for the last thousand days, at least.

The really funny part is that most of the people I meet who REALLY hate Sarah Palin seem to hate her for things that either never happened at all, or were originally in skits on Saturday Night Live.

Louis CK canceled his appearance at this year's Radio & TV Congressional Correspondents dinner.

...literally the day after Greta Van Susteren cited his comments on Palin, including the language he used (which was much, much worse than anything Limbaugh has ever said on air), and said she was going to boycott the dinner if he showed up.

The "he just didn't want to do it anymore" bit is a sad spin on what really happened. Yeah, he just spontaneously decided to not do a gig, giving up thousands of dollars, the day after someone pointed out that his comments were immensely worse than Limbaugh's.

Booking agent: "Hey, Louis? Yeah, the Radio and TV Congressional Correspondents dinner? They just called and told me 'you just decided to cancel the gig,' because they don't want you to show up and point out how hypocritical they are for whining about Limbaugh this week for saying something about a tenth as bad as what you said about Sarah Palin and every other woman on the planet."

gilgigamesh: Weaver95: I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Hm. Don't count your Shellys before they've hatched.

I propose a gentlemen's bet with you, Weav. I think Rush will survive this. Name the terms.

If Rush can survive telling military personnel not to salute the POTUS, he can survive anything.

From whence do you get the idea that he's miserable right now? He's mired in controversy, just how he likes, and even better, he gets to say that they're using this to attack him because they can't debate him on the issues. He's even happier now than he was on his Dominican Republic trip.

/for my money, Rush will be dropped by several more stations (especially when they have Huckabee's new show to turn to) and will eventually get the can.

Gee, that's only going to leave him on... um... six hundred stations. He's down two so far.

"Eventually" can be a long, long time.

Some folks are going on about how is audience is down about a third from a couple of years ago, but forgot that political shows always go up and down with the election cycle. He's going to take a short-term money hit from this, but his audience will stay the same (or increase), and he'll be able to charge a lot for the new advertisers that will be lining up this fall - especially for political ads.

One more thing to note: the "141 sponsors that bailed on Limbaugh" were really "a list of companies that don't want to air on any controversial show, including morning shock jocks," and most of the companies on "the list" never advertised on his show in the first place. A bunch of his regular advertisers are laying low right now, but they'll be back after the next big Democrat panic starts up.

An interesting little rumor: HBO is losing subscribers because of Bill Maher's much worse comments - and the recent hatchet job movie on Sarah Palin. Apparently, a LOT of people decided to suddenly drop HBO last week, and are telling the company why when they cancel their service.

2012-03-13 09:17:32 PM
A few points. I work for a Limbaugh affiliate, so I'm getting a kick......

Rush owns and controls all of his show, and is using Clear Channel as a distributor. For that distribution, they are receiving a portion of his advertising time. He is still in control and has veto power over ad content on the NATIONAL program. If a local station in Reno or Peoria wants to take money from Westboro Baptist Church or The Union of Concerned Scientists, Rush has no control over that. If he finds out about it, he may issue a letter to the station manager asking them nicely to remove advertising that Rush doesn't agree with.

As far as Rush's personal sponsors for his own ad time, he lost 4. 1 wants back on, and the other 3 have already been replaced. By Monday he'll be back at 100% ad capacity. Clear Channel will be back at 100% by a week from Monday, and Rush will cut a deal to get them their lost revenue back by doing an extra dog and pony show for an affiliate or play in a sponsor's golf tournament.

In national radio, there's no one with Rush's power. He was the first successful nationwide talker, and because no one believed it would work, they did a stupid thing in a way IBM did with Bill Gates and Microsoft. His distributors and partners took the short term money and left Rush with a minimal salary but complete ownership and control. Say what you will with his political positions, but when he dies or retires, there will never be another on-air talent with that much money and power. Rush is living the dream of every local dj in every local podunk radio station nationwide. He is entirely in charge of his own situation.

Peter von Nostrand: Meh.. Rush will be fine. His listener base is fanatical in support. The only thing this does is get him talked about in a few news cycles. There is no such thing as going over the line for a right winger, especially Rush

I dunno. There was an article earlier pointing out that rushs audience had already been shrinking, Since he actually charges radio stations to broadcast his show (something almost unheard of) it is imperative he keep his ratings up. Since he's been failing to do so he has instead focused on TSL (time spent listening) which is almost as important as the number of listeners. If he can keep his audience engaged and listening for longer periods of time it can compensate for the drop in volume of listeners. The problem is that his hook for doing this was talking crazy shiat endlessly, more than usual even. thats the reason he was beating the Sandra Fluke horse to death that day and it got him in trouble. He can't do that anymore or he risks losing more sponsors. He's between a rock and a hard place now.

The article also pointed out that Mike Huckabee is going to have a go at stealing markets from Rush. Huckabee has Rushs conservative cred but he comes across as more reasonable and is unlikely to give his sponsors any headaches. Rush might be in serious trouble.

Rush's audience always shrinks outside of an election cycle (like pretty much every "political" show). Last year's numbers (the ones everyone points to) were down about the same amount as they always are during an off-year. His numbers will start ramping up over the next six months, and will stay up until sometime in the second quarter of 2013.

Can't stand the man personally. Think he's an arrogant, egotistical windbag. However- I do note that all they've got to attack him on is this, which plenty of their own heroes engage in as well. And you know why? Because he's so damned irritatingly correct most of the time about them. You can bet they're going to try to get all the mileage they can out of this, because they desperately want him silenced for that very reason. They wouldn't have had a single problem if he had called Sarah Palin a slut, would they? And for very similar reasons, the republican powers-that-be will keep his fat ass on the air, even if he becomes a money-loser, advertising-wise. They have got to keep that message going out before the Eat the Rich- mentality sets in permanently. The entire country, living from day to day, is poised upon the edge of a treacherous knife. On one side, we have the powers that would see us accountable to the government for every facet of our lives. On the other, we have our uber-rich sponsored "freedom demagogues", verbally keeping us focused on the ever-shrinking carrot, whilst overloading the cart we're all forced to pull with their own excesses.

This goes to both of you.

Wait, what?

Yeah, a lot of people watched it. It's controversial, and got a lot of advance press.

The left-wingers thought it was great, gave it good reviews, then watched something else. The right-wingers watched it to see what had been done, realized what HBO thought of them, and a bunch of them cancelled HBO after it aired.

By the way... the "successful" HBO movie had, on its premiere night, after all of that advertising and promotion, about half as many viewers as the first episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska." For that matter, "Game Change" was beaten by "Pawn Stars" on the History Channel in that premiere night time slot.

Carbonite CEO Reaction To Limbaugh Gets Blowback

LOL, Carbonite, one of the former Rush advertisers, stock plummeted 12% since pulling their ads off of Rush's show. LOL

The main theme of the Daily Caller blog post was that Carbonite shares had "plummeted nearly 12%" since Monday morning (through Tuesday's session), with the writer implying it was in reaction to blowback from Carbonite halting its advertising.

Weaver95: gilgigamesh: I'm not suggesting anything changing hands, just a gentlemens bet on how long he will last.

got me. there's a lot of unknowns in this little passion play. we don't know the details of Rush's contract with clear channel, we aren't sure if Premiere is knocking Rush around behind the scenes and/or off air. we don't know if Rush has other revenue streams or not, or the details of how he's currently funding his show.

Also: Rush's biggest station is WABC. Which is owned by Cumulus. Which is syndicating Mike Huckabee's show. Which they won't have to pay to air.

I also note that WABC's the station being monitored by those who say he's losing all his advertisers. People listening elsewhere are hearing more paid advertising. But WABC's the biggest station with the largest audience, so if that goes and the rest of his Cumulus-owned stations split as well, he may not be long for radio.

I think there's a bit of a setup going on here, in among all the other maneuvering. If Rush implodes for reasons his core audience supports, but that general audiences will no longer tolerate, it's even more likely he'll take the core with him to a subscription venue.

Interesting.

An interesting little rumor: HBO is losing subscribers because of Bill Maher's much worse comments - and the recent hatchet job movie on Sarah Palin. Apparently, a LOT of people decided to suddenly drop HBO last week, and are telling the company why when they cancel their service.

dr_blasto:

You understand, of course, that ratings only matter insofar as they produce advertising dollars and that, therefore, comparing HBO's ratings to those of another channels is specious at best?

I mean if you're going to be that intellectually lazy, you might as well compare insulting a public figure with defaming a private citizen.

And we know you wouldn't do that.

Even more interesting: his overall rating on WABC (listenership ages 6+) went down 11% from December to January in the NY Metro market.

Hm.

liverleef: The article also pointed out that Mike Huckabee is going to have a go at stealing markets from Rush. Huckabee has Rushs conservative cred but he comes across as more reasonable and is unlikely to give his sponsors any headaches. Rush might be in serious trouble.

Uh... sorry, but I don't think so. Rush's "unreasonableness" is his very selling point. Michael Savage can spew even more venom at the Left, but he's a too imbalanced. Rush must have an entire team of theorists and theologists on his staff, because he usually has all the bases covered, and then some.

Everything arcs and peaks and fades. Surely, the notion that this abused and failing nation, or that this tired, badly aging blowhard are immune from that somehow, frames that fact poignantly. Some things and people go out with dignity. Some clutch at straws and wallow in their obsolescence. That shaking from the windows and the rattling in the walls is the times changing. Twas ever thus. Some people manage to remark on this obvious fact and are called prophets. Most just try and locate a comfy spot in the tangled web they've weaved. If anybody thought Mr. Limbaugh would do otherwise, they weren't paying attention. Sometimes 15 minutes is a long time.

Rush is basically done. He's not done because of what he said. He's done because he's turned into a fat, wheezy old guy with mild cognitive impairment. His delivery has become grating to the ears, and his show is no longer a pleasant show to listen to.

Unless you're in the business of selling diapers to old people who can't figure out how to change the station, there's no reason to pay his ad rates anymore.
