Weaver95: Limbaugh has lost ALL his national advertisers. I don't see how much longer he can continue...

Depends what level of survival he's prepared to accept, as the Matrix Architect said. I read that his arrangement is unusual because stations have to pay a fee to get his show as opposed to just splitting ad time. That gives him some negotiating room if his clearances are threatened.

The pleasing part of this year's political shenanigans is that Republicans do not realize that they have stepped off the edge. Much like the coyote after he got caught up chasing the road runner and did not realize he was tricked.

Just when it is too far to go back they will see what they have done to themselves and the last ditch umbrella will not help.

DubyaHater: Wasn't the owner of LifeLock sued or in legal trouble for his company's inability to protect one's identity? I'm too lazy to look it up.

I am too lazy too but I believe his identity was stolen.

Humean_Nature: gilgigamesh: To that end, I will bet you that by the end of this month this has largely blown over and forgotten.

timujin: I'm about 85% for him ending up on internet or satellite only by six months from now.

Weaver95: I think if Rush is gonna fall, he'll fall quick.

Peter von Nostrand: Meh.. Rush will be fine. His listener base is fanatical in support. The only thing this does is get him talked about in a few news cycles. There is no such thing as going over the line for a right winger, especially Rush

I'm bookmarking these for later.

/for my money, Rush will be dropped by several more stations (especially when they have Huckabee's new show to turn to) and will eventually get the can.

Bookmark away. We can't all be right, and if I am wrong I will happily eat crow come April 1.

Don't see it happening however.

nekom: I've never heard of this site before, but I would be shocked if ANYONE at Clear Channel, EIB, whatever other entities put this walrus on the air are in any way seriously considering letting the WBC sponsor it. I'm not fan of the blimp, but I mean come in, he IS a businessman, and that would be about the stupidest thing in the world to give any real thought to from a business perspective.

I think you overestimate his listeners. Most of them are probably already WBC fans.

timujin:

Define "survive." I mean, I'm 60% sure he will live through it, though death by aneurysm, heart attack or drug overdose are all on the table. If you mean "keep his radio show"... well, that's a tough one. I mean, he has such a loyal following, but they're fairly close, in my opinion, to the rabid Howard Stern fans that kept him on satellite radio even after he was off of FM. I'm about 85% for him ending up on internet or satellite only by six months from now.

...hopefully, for him, satellite. Internet radio is where Alex Jones lies.

I agree.. stolen from another Farker, I believe-- the best way I have heard it described is that in about 20 years the only Republican left will be a white, 65 year old millionaire looking in the mirror accusing his reflection of being a liberal"

Yes. I seem to remember reading that his own identity was stolen like 8 or 9 times after he ran those ads with his SSN on the side of a truck.

/Also too lazy to look it up.

DubyaHater: Wasn't the owner of LifeLock sued or in legal trouble for his company's inability to protect one's identity?

Yes.
And the LifeLock CEO got hacked. He attempts to play it off, but a $500 loan was taken out in his name and SSAN. Other info here.

IamAwake: I'm confused...what is westborough selling? How do they...advertise? Would rush just be getting paid very explicitly for hating on groups of people, or...?

Their church is suffering from genetic stagnation. You can tell by all the herp they derp that most of them are inbred. By drawing more members to their church, they can spread the genes a bit more.

skinink: I wish nothing but the best for Limbaugh and his show, because he makes the conservative right look that much crazier. He should have never apologized either.
I bet Obama wins the Electoral College over the eventual GOP candidate by a 2 to 1 ratio.

The electoral college map is probably going to look a lot like 1996. Man, it's like Gingrich is a massive, time warping anomaly. Rush is "relevant" again, the Rethuglicans are making asses of themselves trying to beat an unassailable candidate, and the same dipshiats are going to still vote for them regardless of reality.

I believe the most important question is, why are we reading about this on some crappy gambling related website?

Wait, let me guess! It's a Mainstream MSM Media conspiracy to keep news of Rush getting new sponsors hidden!

Humean_Nature:
/for my money, Rush will be dropped by several more stations (especially when they have Huckabee's new show to turn to) and will eventually get the can.

Gee, that's only going to leave him on... um... six hundred stations. He's down two so far.

"Eventually" can be a long, long time.

Some folks are going on about how is audience is down about a third from a couple of years ago, but forgot that political shows always go up and down with the election cycle. He's going to take a short-term money hit from this, but his audience will stay the same (or increase), and he'll be able to charge a lot for the new advertisers that will be lining up this fall - especially for political ads.

One more thing to note: the "141 sponsors that bailed on Limbaugh" were really "a list of companies that don't want to air on any controversial show, including morning shock jocks," and most of the companies on "the list" never advertised on his show in the first place. A bunch of his regular advertisers are laying low right now, but they'll be back after the next big Democrat panic starts up.

An interesting little rumor: HBO is losing subscribers because of Bill Maher's much worse comments - and the recent hatchet job movie on Sarah Palin. Apparently, a LOT of people decided to suddenly drop HBO last week, and are telling the company why when they cancel their service.

/I don't listen to talk radio
//don't like Limbaugh either
///cancelled HBO this week too, but only to save money

Ambivalence: gilgigamesh: To that end, I will bet you that by the end of this month this has largely blown over and forgotten.

You think Limbaugh will be able to refrain from being an asshole for an entire month? Becuase that's pretty much the only way this gets blown over.

Of course he can.

Rush will just take another suitcase full of Viagra off to a country known for sex tourism.

Who wouldn't enjoy that?

A site that's ranked 3.5 million in traffic cites an unnamed source in Clear Channel, and it makes the front page at Fark?

2012-03-13 08:19:16 PM
I guarantee you right now that Premier Networks is hoping to ride out the storm. The stations that carry Rush pay for the right to do so, and most are likely locked in to the contract for the next 9-18 months. So they've got money coming in, even if they aren't selling any national advertising, and as far as they are concerned the local affiliates likely don't have the option to leave any time soon. Plus I haven't seen any data supporting the idea that local advertisers are pulling out at the rate the larger national sponsors are.

So they're going to sit back, wait for the dust to die down, and hope the advertisers come back. If 6 months from now they still can't find any sponsors, then they'll start panicking.

2012-03-13 08:21:17 PM
A modest proposal: Fark ought to sweep in and buy some cut-rate ad time with Rush! My mind boggles when trying to imagine what such a script might contain.

I do love how Rush, Hannity, Savage, and Mark Levin (who sounds like an audio caricature of a foaming-at-the mouth talk show host) almost always manage to totally seamlessly segue from a "news" item to one of their ads; i.e.; identity theft on the rise -> LifeLock; rampant inflation -> gold; shiate about to hit the fan in general -> storable food with 25 year shelf life.

But overall, I'd rather listen to a crazed right-winger pontificate all day long than an Air America style lefty: way too strident and constant whining, pissing, and moaning.

Also, I heard Hitler was going to advertise on Rush's show.

Yeah. This one needs a better source before it can be considered true.

All I can find searching is people saying that soon the WBC will be the only people willing to sponsor him, but not that they actually have.

If you're going to whine about how horrible the right wing is, you might try NOT using words like "Rethuglican." All it does is wave a flag for the middle-of-the-road people to disregard everything you say.

Or complain about horrible old Rush Limbaugh, while the left idolizes people like Bill Maher and the other "edgy" comedians who warm up with worse stuff than Limbaugh ever says.

For the last couple of weeks, it's been "Limbaugh called that woman a slut!" "Kick him off the air!" "Arrest him!" while ignoring much, MUCH worse comments from pretty much all of the similar folks on their side. It's starting to bite back, though - Louis C.K. had a gig cancel on him this week because of his recently-publicized comments about Sarah Palin (which, proportionally, is a lot worse financially for him than what happened to Limbaugh).

You know, I'm actually OK with the WBC advertising on Rush. In a relationship like that, there is no way they can avoid dragging each other down yet further. With some luck, they may actually take one another out of commission before either one realizes.

Big deal.

Rush is not going to disappear anytime soon. These gross accusations are entirely inflated.

He is a huge star with massive ratings and a gigantic fan base. The oversized profits he brings to Clear Channel are filling the ample pockets of their investors as they should be. And there is nothing fat-cat democrats like George Soros can do about it.

Go ahead and rent the Goodyear blimp. Fly it around oversized liberal enclaves such as Aspen and paste "Rush Limbaugh was mean to a college broad" on the bigassed sides of the hulking airship.

See how much pressure that will load onto the existing tonnage libtards already thrust upon this giant of media? None!

Sorry if that hurts anyones overinflated ego.

No matter how much weight the libs bring down nothing is going to stop those bulging bags of cash from El Rushbo's meaty fingers.

Can't stand the man personally. Think he's an arrogant, egotistical windbag. However- I do note that all they've got to attack him on is this, which plenty of their own heroes engage in as well. And you know why? Because he's so damned irritatingly correct most of the time about them. You can bet they're going to try to get all the mileage they can out of this, because they desperately want him silenced for that very reason. They wouldn't have had a single problem if he had called Sarah Palin a slut, would they? And for very similar reasons, the republican powers-that-be will keep his fat ass on the air, even if he becomes a money-loser, advertising-wise. They have got to keep that message going out before the Eat the Rich- mentality sets in permanently. The entire country, living from day to day, is poised upon the edge of a treacherous knife. On one side, we have the powers that would see us accountable to the government for every facet of our lives. On the other, we have our uber-rich sponsored "freedom demagogues", verbally keeping us focused on the ever-shrinking carrot, whilst overloading the cart we're all forced to pull with their own excesses.

That anyone even takes or took her seriously is f*cking ponderous.

You must mean the Democrats, then - they just put out that ridiculous movie to trash her, three years after she held any political office at all. They've been giving her free rent in their heads for the last thousand days, at least.

The really funny part is that most of the people I meet who REALLY hate Sarah Palin seem to hate her for things that either never happened at all, or were originally in skits on Saturday Night Live.
