Ooh, 10 miles from my house! Fayette County represent! That complex was built before the Olympics so the local powers-that-be could forcibly export the crime-ridden ghettos out of downtown Atlanta and into the suburbs. They plopped these people down right in the middle of rich, white suburbia, with the expected results.

That apartment complex is a jungle. Lots of trash, abandoned cars and feral kids.

Now we have lots of rich white people driving right by the local section 8 ghetto on thier golf cart late at night and they act surprised that they get mugged now and then?

ElVee - where is this near? We're actually looking to move to PTC this June. Brother in law has lived there for 8 years (and Fayetteville for the 10 before that) and has had no trouble at all.

swankywanky: ElVee - where is this near?

If you pass the Chuck-E-Cheese, you've gone too far.

Swankywanky, it's near the dying K-mart shopping center. Make sure you get a neighborhood that is in the Macintosh High School district. Too far west and your kids go to Sandy Creek, too far east they'll go to Starr's Mill high. Wynnmeade is the only neighborhood worse than Braelinn.

thanks - Mcintosh is our #1 pick, we've heard Starr's Mills is good too (nephews are there or starting in the next year at SM).

It's really a pretty nice place. The local pizza joint even has golf cart parking and charging stations.

The golf cart is emblematic of Peachtree City. The Fayette County community has 90 miles of paths designated for an estimated 12,000 carts.

Ok. I've read the weirdest thing I could possibly imagine for today. It must be bedtime.

Most of PTC is "good people". The areas to avoid are generally pretty obvious when you're riding through. Any local real estate agent worth their salt will guide you to where you want to be, anyway. Headed south in PTC, things get -much- better once you're past the not-so-good areas of Braelinn, but avoiding the Section 8 apartments means you have to go a long way out of your way when you're cruising around on a golf cart. Lots of general hooliganism goes on in the area around those apartments.

If I had to do it over again, I'd buy northeast of Highways 54&74. However, some of those homes are quite expensive.

What we need is a real-life version of a road map published by National Lampoon in the 1970's. The legend included entries for things like: "lonely, isolated, desolate roads where outlaw bikers will rape your wife", and "gritty, dirty, urban areas crowded with dangerous Negros."

Yeah, that's the ticket!

I thought all real estate agents had those kinds of maps, although they labeled them "Property Value and Crime Rates" or something.

I am surprised Wynnmeade hasn't been bulldozed by the powers that be, that place was a shiat hole when I lived there
