He still gets a prime-time speaking slot at the GOP convention first, though, right?

[The] suspect in the attack served three tours of duty in Iraq before being deployed to Afghanistan

The sergeant was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury after the wreck but was found fit for duty after treatment

Just use them up and when they break throw them away. Don't forget to act surprised.

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us-if at all-not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

Good... if he's not found to be insane.

If the Afghans want this guy's head then they might want to, you know, STOP SHOOTING AT THE INSPECTORS WHO ARE INVESTIGATING THE MURDERS.

If this goes to tribunal is the whole case deliberated in private or will the public be aware of how it is panning out?

2012-03-13 10:15:54 AM
you don't say.

Well said. If you're gonna start two wars, at least reinstitute a draft to spread around the pain.

I can see this guy being a hero to the right wingers right up until his lawyers started to bring up the TBI defense. If they accept that he had a TBI firstly the racists can't champion him for killing Muslins and secondly if he does indeed have TBI then it could lead to talk of more funding to support our wounded soldiers and god knows we cannot have that because it requires GASP funding and that means taxes and that means it's a liberal plot to advance sochulizm just like the Fast and Furious program was a plot to take guns or something.

blacknite: as he should.

Yeah. Why wouldn't he? I'd even go farther than that and hand him over to Afghan authorities.

The Taliban is just pissed because killing innocent women and children is their gig and this guy is horning in on their action.

/hope he's committed rather than executed.. he's clearly mentally ill.

2012-03-13 10:37:40 AM
If the rumors that he suffered a traumatic brain injury are true, so should the doctor that cleared him for duty.

He will be tried under the articles of the UCMJ as he should be.

Oh, where are you coming from, soldier, gaunt soldier,
With weapons beyond any reach of my mind,
With weapons so deadly the world must grow older
And die in its tracks, if it does not turn kind?

2012-03-13 10:46:39 AM
Good - time to brush the dust off some M1s and put him in front of a firing squad.

2012-03-13 10:46:52 AM
After we killed OBL, we should have declared victory and gotten the fark out of there.

Look at what fartbama is doing to our soldiers. Never would have happened under bush!

Good. The guy may as well commit treason, god knows how many American lives he has just endangered.

Let the mothers of each dead person hold one gun in the firing squad.

GAT_00: If the rumors that he suffered a traumatic brain injury are true, so should the doctor that cleared him for duty.

Yea a traumatic brain injury, years behind enemy lines and access to guns are never a good combination.

Kit Fister: Honestly, he should be hung in the square at the center of Kandahar.

Yeah, when you kill innocent women and children while representing the United States...I have no sympathy for him and wouldn't be upset if we tossed him over to the Afghan authorities to handle him.

And if this guy was mentally ill, then that means there's a serious breakdown in the mental health system in our military and the doctor that cleared him for duty should be investigated.

Sucks for his wife and kids who have to deal with this.

2012-03-13 10:49:16 AM
hand him over to the afghans.

2012-03-13 10:49:16 AM
I'd be farking surprised. Seems like these guys usually just get a slap on the wrist.

How it works is: if an Afghan shoots people, he's just a radical who does not speak for Muslims or Afghan's at-large. If an American shoots people it's because all Americans want all Muslims dead.

2012-03-13 10:50:01 AM
What's the point of this war, anyway? Why is the U.S. still there?

2012-03-13 10:50:09 AM
I wonder what was going on in this guys head before this shooting happened? What were his thoughts about, what kind of emotional pain and trauma had he gone through? Yes he murdered those people and commited a crime, but his crime looked an awful lot like his day job...

2012-03-13 10:50:13 AM
Good!

2012-03-13 10:50:15 AM
Suddenly the clerics in Afghanistan care about civilian deaths. The best way to avoid this kind of stuff in the future is to run away from that place like Benny Hill at the end of every sketch.

GAT_00: If the rumors that he suffered a traumatic brain injury are true, so should the doctor that cleared him for duty.

The non-CNN story I saw on this guy said the "traumatic brain injury" was a concussion, and that he recovered from it just fine. It's not like he had memory loss or personality changes afterward.

2012-03-13 10:50:42 AM
Good. You leave your base in the middle of the night, slaughter 16 unarmed civilians, nine of whom are children.....I'd expect nothing less.

2012-03-13 10:50:54 AM
blacknite: as he should.

This.

In fact, they should Danny Deever him in Afghanistan. Go the full route: Dress him up in his Class A's, and strip every last bit of regalia from him one piece at a time before hanging him. Don't let the Afghans do it, but allow them to witness it.

Assuming, of course, that he is convicted of the charges.

2012-03-13 10:51:26 AM
When are the architects of these BS conflicts going to be put up for war crime trials???

I'm sure the surviving family members of the people he slaughtered feel that is justice served.

2012-03-13 10:51:41 AM
I don't see a way around this. This whole situation sucks.

2012-03-13 10:51:59 AM
Old enough to know better: I'd be farking surprised. Seems like these guys usually just get a slap on the wrist.

Who was the last US soldier in Afghanistan who shot 10+ civilians?

There's a reason I said rumors.

CUT OFF HIS HAND!

2012-03-13 10:52:57 AM
NuttierThanEver: I can see this guy being a hero to the right wingers

Why can you see that? Is your vision so distorted that you think right-wingers would be happy to support someone who *INTENTIONALLY* goes out and kills women and children with zero justification? They'll be the first ones calling for his execution.

2012-03-13 10:53:16 AM
I'm assuming they have deemed him mentally competent.

2012-03-13 10:53:16 AM
kungfu jesus with a side of lime: I wonder what was going on in this guys head before this shooting happened? What were his thoughts about, what kind of emotional pain and trauma had he gone through? Yes he murdered those people and commited a crime, but his crime looked an awful lot like his day job...

A soldier's day job is not to callously slaughter unarmed civilians, the majority of whom are children. That's not what we're sending our men and women over there to do, and if that is what they're doing, THEN WE SHOULD BRING THEM THE FARK HOME, as they've clearly lost the plot.

I don't doubt that war is hell, and that what these men and women experience is far beyond anything you or I can even imagine, but that does not in any way excuse what this piece of shiat did. He's an insult to this country and to the uniform he wears.

2012-03-13 10:53:26 AM
Ya think?

2012-03-13 10:53:29 AM
Whole situation is messed up.
