"America, I thought, wasn't ready for a brown person to come into office, and sure, they probably weren't and still aren't."

Yes, because america that VOTED for him wasn't ready for him?

Way to start stupid.

Imagine if a gay, black Democrat got elected?

Well played, subby. That might be obscure even for Fark.

2012-03-13 11:20:22 AM
I have no idea what that was all about. Terribly written, no matter what point he's trying to make -- assuming, of course, that he's trying to make a point.

We're going to end up with HIllary Clinton for President and Janet Reno as First Lady instead of President Portia De Rossi and Michelle Rodriguez.

nah, parties are switching back to what they were up until the early 1900s. It'll end up being a gay, black republican

I'm still kind of shocked the first non white President wasn't an Asian. I'd have thought the Republicans would have dug up an Asian candidate. You know:

Libs: Ooooh a minority. How progressive.
Reps: Well yeah that boy there ain't white, but he's good at math and can balance the budget or something.
State of Michigan: First Toyota and now this? RAGE!

Yep, 50% of the population supporting you doesn't mean the country is ready when about 40% of them hate your guts for the color of your skin.

I once heard the argument that Buchanan wasn't gay because at that time, it was quite common for bachelors to live together.

But then again, my grandmother insisted that Liberace and Rock Hudson were NEVER gay.

I forget the term, but one exists for how American's view Asians. Because they are not looked down upon anymore and aren't treated with the same stigma as other immigrants.

There are various letters in the Buchanan arrive where her romances some women. Of course they could be beards. It really is hard to tell since that time period it seems like even if you were gay, at some point you bit the bullet, got married, and fathered a kid or two due to social pressure. In Buchanan's case it appears he used the excuse of his law firm (and later political career) plus the fact he adopted an orphaned niece to kind of duck the social pressure.

seriously though, a lot of American's don't view Asian immigrants with the lazy stereotype or that they are a burden on the social nets. Its a real concept that is studied, I am not saying its accurate or even true, but its a false assumption by a large amount of the population and it has a term.

The phrase you are looking for is "model minority."

They're the "good ones" who prove that all the "bad ones" just need to shape themselves up.

But, as the Rev. Jesse 'no job' Jackson points out, Obama isn't a real black man. "See, Barack's been, ahh, talking down to black people on this faith-based... I want to cut his nuts off." Which is to say, Obama got elected without being beholden to the A-A religious community.

An openly gay man in the White House is fabulous, and not in the ways that stereotypes would have you imagine.

Bolded for subby's reading pleasure.

Buchanan may have been many things (and gay was probably one of them), but openly gay was not one of them.

In the current political climate, an unmarried person could not become President of the USA. Even a married person without at least one child probably couldn't.
