(The Daily Caller)   Mitch McConnell comes out of his shell for a moment, to call for a resolution 'authorizing the use of force' against Iran. Adds that Ahmadinejad looks a bit like Mario, and look what he did to all those poor Koopas when unchecked   (dailycaller.com) divider line 76

As a far left radical I'm looking forward to the capitalist system finally self-destructing and opening an opportunity for real revolution, so, yeah, do it. Let's take that last step. Come on, you farks. Doesn't that razor looks shiny? Run it across your wrists a few times.

so they want to make Obama more powerful by giving him the power to start a war whenever he wishes?

Since China and Russia has said they would aid Iran the big question comes into what is aid. Money? Arms? Men? Sanctions?

In the unlikely event the repubs win and go all derpy like in the primaries then we may find out.

Wow you mean the Republicans who were attacking Obama for his very limited involvement in Libya without congressional approval but have recently been attacking Obama for not doing more to Iran without congressional approval has noticed the hypocrisy in their argument?

Jormungandr: Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Nadie_AZ: The GOP hates the military. And Freedom. And Independence.

My wife has this argument with one of her friends, whose husband is on his (at least) 3rd visit to Iraq as a medic. She doesn't understand that just because the GOP parades around their love for the military, it doesn't mean that they actually give f*ck all about the soldiers.

I guess you could say they love the military industrial complex, hate the soldiers.

Gosling: CitizenTed: I have an idea: when Congress approves a war, each member of Congress (the House and the Senate) must willingly have all immediate family members - siblings, spouses, children, etc - aged 18-35 to be enlisted in the US. Army and assigned to combat duty. No excuses, no exceptions.

If the cause is just, this should be no problem.

Even the ones that voted no? Because if that's the case, I think you'd have your war right there on the floor because the ones voting no are basically going to choke the life out of the ones that vote yes.

United we stand, muhfuh's. If you can't stand the heat of running the country, get the hell out of the rotunda.

Global social systems don't usually go quietly into that dark night, you know. I enjoy hardcore commies, though. So utterly convinced that the revolution is juuuuust over the horizon that they'll support anything. War with Iran? Yes please. Republican President? Yes please. National movement to rob workers of their rights? Yes please. Global totalitarian empire? Yes please.

Not saying you're advocating such things, just mocking my comrades from college.

Leo Bloom's Freakout: Haven't played V yet, can we still send our longbow men to defeat Iran's tanks?

Nope, unit stacking is gone.

You could block the tank's movement with other units and snipe it to death with an archer. The hex system is farked to hell.

Tongue firmly in cheek (since I've heard plenty of the kinds of things you're talking about, from the kinds of people you're talking about). I have my own opinions on the subject of revolutionary politics as an anarcho-socialist and an Occupier, but, no, this is a Bad Idea by any metric and nothing good could possibly come from it.

I dunno. We might actually get a final resolution on actually declared war vs. authorized military action, but then again we might get free ice cream and beer forever and ever. Both are equally likely.

I wouldn't consider myself either of those things, but I'm fairly close to your Political Compass score. Or was when I last took it.

Go fight a war with no defined victory objectives. When you come back, no mental health support, no college loans, no job assistance, and crumbling VA infrastructure. But we love the troops.

Perhaps Senator Mitch should kill himself.
For the good of the nation, of course.

"What can we rally around that will be guaranteed to piss off 60% of the electorate?"

"We can bang the war drum against Iran."

"BRILLIANT!"

Aarontology: Sorry troops coming home from Iraq, don't get too comfortable.

The GOP wants to throw your lives away and rip you from your well deserved time at home with your families because it helps their campaign rhetoric.

I think it's rather unlikely we'd actually go through with this. Iraq/Afghanistan are third-world countries with little to no diplomatic recourse and no real military power to speak of. Iran is a firmly second-world nation approaching first-world status in social structure and industry. It would be like invading Mexico-- and like Mexico, we'll stick with economic pressure and the occasional black op here and there, not commit troops openly.

The whole "we're gonna invade you guys, totally for reals" is an intimidation tactic, not something we're prepared to back up. Which is why it's been completely ineffective.

Iran is no pushover and war would be incredibly costly. It would be a catastrophe that would make Vietnam look like a walk in the park. And it's not just Iran. The Russians would put every effort into supporting Iran. Probably the Chinese too. Everybody else would pull back and say, "Are you f*cking crazy?"

This doesn't change the fact that Santorum isn't bluffing. He wants war. And all those discredited neocon chickenhawks are for it too--they're itching to prove that they were right after all, that endless war will shower down blessings on America. His administration would be full of them.

Santorum in the White House means war with Iran, and that means pretty much the end.

I'm so sick of my party being the war mongers not because it's a just war but because they can make a buck off of it.

Assholes. Assholes. Assholes. Assholes. Assholes.
