WTF is this guy's problem?

Bush's approval rating was down to 46% in May of 2004. He had Kerry to run against, and won.

Obama has a clone of Kerry as a likely opponent, but one without any form of self-awareness and a desire to say whatever pops into his head.

I heard this in Bill Mahar's voice and then I pictured him making that "duh" face.

I don't care if Obama's approval rating is 1%. He is so far and away a better choice for President than any of the cretins running for the GOP, it's comical to the point of being absurd.

Wait... I lost my cheat sheet - do polls matter or are they irrelevant this week?

That oil pipeline was going to pump pure gas (not oil) from Canada right into a Texas gas station that has a line of SUVs waiting to fuel up for the low, low price of $1 per gallon.

Then Obambi came in whining about trees and clean water. We won't NEED water to live if we can't drive to work, Obama!! How will we pay for the little bottles?

Here's your replacement cheat sheet:

Poll reflects well on Obama = Relevant
Poll reflects poorly on Obama = Irrelevant

Obama is going to win whether you libtards keep apologizing for him or not. It has already been decided. He is the ideal GOP candidate.

Suck it libs.

Newt Gingrich is sitting on the secret to $1.50 gas, but he will only tell us if we elect him President.

I say we waterboard him in order to get the secret instead.

Don't blame him. He didn't take that class at Harvard.

His secret is to start selling gas at 1/3 gallon units.

Ta-dah!!!

People seem to forget the world wide panic we experienced in 2008. In 2008, people saw their retirement funds lose 45% of its value... They were worry about losing their jobs, homes, etc.

Today, people in the US are worry/biatching about paying $60 instead of $35 when filling up the car. I would take that problem any day instead of the problems we faced in 2008.

2012-03-13 02:51:21 PM
Laugh all you want, but if gas hits the predicted $5/gallon mark this summer the very modest recovery will slide and Obama goes down Mondale style no matter who the GOP runs.

GanjSmokr: Wait... I lost my cheat sheet - do polls matter or are they irrelevant this week?

I suppose this week they matter. Last week, when Obama's approval rating climbed over 50%, and he was beating his opponents by 15% among woman and 30% among Latinos.... well, last week they just didn't matter.

2012-03-13 03:13:32 PM
Nate Silver had a good piece on this. His take was that gas prices don't really have much effect on approval rating polls. Like in 2008 when gas prices were tumbling... it didn't help the incumbent party since, you know, the economy was tanking.

You can trivialize it if you want too but that $25 per fill up makes a lot of difference to some people. Especially folks like me who fill up two and sometimes three times in a week. You must not do the finances in your home or I assume you're a guy who only has to pay for gas and a cell phone bill. Shiat adds up.

The DOW was also at roughly the same level it is right now and unemployment was several % points lower than it is right now and liberals ran around screaming about how horrible the economy was doing because of Bush's policies.

Not in 2004. That election was all about Iraq.

What sucks for the GOP is that if they had an actual candidate to put up against Obama they might have a shot in hell. Obama's fault or not the economy is not super right now which puts him I'm a tough position to seek re-election.

/ so many will not vote for Romney simply because he is a mormon

That was true in 2008, but it won't be this year. The desire to defeat Obama will overwhelm any issue with his religion.

Just or not, that's the way it will be. IMHO, Presidents (no matter the party) get too much credit when the economy is good and too much blame when it is bad, but they're the head guy. It goes with the job. Just ask the last GM of the Colts what happens when events beyond your control cause everything to go to crap on your watch.

Mr. Obama's approval rating dropped substantially in recent weeks, the poll found, with 41 percent of respondents expressing approval of the job he is doing...

Just one month ago, Mr. Obama reached a critical benchmark by winning approval from 50 percent of Times/CBS News poll respondents...

Crap. Can you imagine how bad it would have been if women weren't flocking to Obama because of Limbaugh.

Maybe if the war drums for Iran stop the prices might ease. I don't think the two are coincidental.

The arrogance of the NYT is off-the-charts. All other polls have Obama in the high 40's or low 50's. They obviously effed up during this 3-day cycle.

Why such a great desire to get rid off Obama? Can't be due to the economy doing so horrible... or high taxes, etc...

GDP performance during the Obama Administration has gone into positive growth.

If you are unemployed or underemployed, you don't have a 4 year degree (or higher) and blame Obama for your situation, then maybe you should get a college degree. It is not the Gov's fault you don't have the necessary skills to compete in today's world. The Gov can even help you pay for it (via loans, grants, GI Bill etc).

Your taxes have not gone up since Obama took office. This was a rooted fear from Tea Partiers. Take a look at a Forbes article written by Bruce Bartlett, a self-described fiscal conservative...
