When it hits the burbs, it's snortable. This is actually a sign of affluence arising from the ashes of the recent banking deregulation debacle. On the downside, this is a third level side effect of a banking crisis.

It will never go away and should not be seen as a problem, but a treatable disease. Decriminalize it and help junkies get HELP without all the needless FDA/DEA restrictions on pharmaceutical replacements. We could actually help people get better and become productive, probably for less money than imprisoning them. For-profit prisons have a problem? fark those faceless companies, they can get into the for-profit rehab business.

When rich kids need to "escape" it has to make you wonder what is wrong with this world.

People don't seem to care so much when heroin is a problem in poor black neighborhoods, but when white suburban kids start doing it, its a problem.

2012-03-13 03:31:18 AM
Ok, right now, all over this great nation of ours, 'hundred thousand white people from the suburbs are cruisin' around downtown asking every black person they see "You got any drugs? You know where I can score some drugs?" *Think* about the effect that that has on the psyche of a black person, on their possibilities. I... God I guarantee you bring a hundred thousand black people into your neighborhood, into farkin' Arlington Heights, and they're asking every white person they see "You got any drugs? You know where I can score some drugs?", within a *day* everyone would be selling. Your friends. Their kids. Here's why: it's an unbeatable market force man. It's a three-hundred percent markup value. You can go out on the street and make five-hundred dollars in two hours, come back and do whatever you want to do with the rest of your day and, I'm sorry, you're telling me that... you're telling me that white people would still be going to law school?

The report by researchers at Roosevelt University's Illinois Consortium on Drug Policy reveals that in Chicago and its suburbs, more people visit hospital emergency rooms with problems related to heroin than in any other major metropolitan area in the U.S.

who cares?
dumbasses doing heroin ... LOL
I love that they drive into the city to get their drugs.

bwahahahahahahahah

there is no downside to this. none at all.
In theory, more ODs would lead the white suburban parents to want to decriminalize drugs so that their snowflakes are less at risk of death.
right??
RIGHT???

Just to get up that heroin into the Chicago suburbs.

Groll said heroin use often starts with other drugs like cigarettes and alcohol, moving into marijuana and prescription medication, then harder drugs like heroin.

I cant not believe that these assholes are still pushing the gateway drugs story.
No one I know has ever done heroin.
100% of heroin users have done at least one of: cigarettes and alcohol, moving into marijuana and prescription medication.

213,000 heroin users
70,000,000 tobacco users
so a 1 in 300 ?

pot use is twice that ...
basically there is no such thing as a gateway drug.

self-medication? that's another story

Eh around here (Madison, WI) the heroin addicts have a tendency to do the heroin as soon as they get it. This is usually in their car which then leads them to either pass out or O.D. and then randomly crash into things/drive on the bike trails, etc. Link (new window)

We should just legalize laudnum for OTC pain management, then everyone's all slightly addicted to opiates and ta-da heroin is no longer a problem drug because the first hit's not very good.

If heroin were legalized today, I would be dead tomorrow.

1) The real cause of rising heroin usage is the rampant abuse of prescription painkillers. Almost every heroin user I know, originally got hooked on pills, and then turned to heroin for their "need"

2) I've never met a heroin addict that was worth helping. Myself and friends tried to help a lot of people that we really cared about, but it never once worked out. Shut them out of your life and hope they die quickly, its really the best way. *shrug*

Heroin, you say?

Not a problem. You don't even need an IV for it anymore - intranasal NARCAN is just as effective.

2012-03-13 05:21:20 AM
Boo Hoo. As long as they're not robbing me to get their drug money, fark'em. And that pretty much goes for any addict.

If they manage to get clean, good for them! But if folks are determined to kill themselves, who are we to stand in their way? Plenty of other people out there more deserving of help and sympathy.

Why don't we stop the heroin from coming in in the first place?

We could find the country that produces the heroin and invade it.

Opiate.

You take heroin and it ALL goes away. If you can have sex, it's hardly even worth it. Mostly you just sit around.

Obviously the solution to this problem is to funnel even more money into the war on drugs and to increase the penalties for possession of marijuana.

Not, perhaps, the first people I'd think of asking for advice on such matters.

People have done drugs since drugs were available and it seems that by now thee would be a safe and effective way to treat addicts. I've seen a few people that have come off heroin only to go on methadone and still be a mess.

Suboxone with extensive counseling seems to be the most effective treatment. This is from experience.

You comment made so much sense I almost forgot I was on FARK.

But do you think for-profit rehabs would be any better than for profit prisons? Are there any rehabs that aren't for-profit? Aren't many rehabs run by the same faceless bastards? I went to visit someone in rehab not so long ago and it reminded me visiting the same person when he was in prison. The only difference was they weren't locked in cells at night. The only treatment on offer (other than the initial detox period) was non-stop AA/NA meetings. Is that really treatment? Is that the best we can expect for what rehab costs? I guess it's better than nothing, but I wish we could do better.

Nirvana.

Seriously, opiates make you euphoric, but they slow you the hell down. I only know what heroin must feel like because I've been morphined for a few days in a hospital and it was amazing. I spent 8 hours curled up in a toilet unable to even scream then my ma took me to the hospital where they FINALLY gave me morphine and wow. It was like every nerve was suddenly made of cool, cool water and I wanted to get up and dance but I was already passed out from exhaustion.

However, you put some coke into your system there and you'll be awake to enjoy the feeling, I guess. I personally don't see the point. You need to focus on one drug at a time or less. Leave off cocktails of them until you're sick. Otherwise you'll build up a tolerance or an addiction or something. Stick to what you know and fire only for effect. Heroin is not one of them things you wanna dabble in.

2012-03-13 06:42:15 AM
I was curled up with a kidney stone, by the way. I wasn't stung out on anything. I had tried to take some vicodin but they came up along with most of my stomach lining through pain induced dry heaving.

Heroin is great, after you vomit. Plus you can't pee. But you're in a half asleep half awake dream state. Its like an out of body experience, you kind of float.

Of course, to get that feeling again, you need to buy twice as much as before to get the same effect.

After that, real life doesn't appeal to you, every time you feel stress, you're like "Heroin, Take me away!"

I had a habit for about a year, and I kicked it.

2012-03-13 07:11:00 AM
I have snorted heroin a couple times. It sucked, felt like I took a bunch of benedryl. Why people would want to get hooked on that crap is beyond me.

One of my good friends got started on pills and now will buy to snortable heroin when he doesn't have pills. Its sad and all, but all the people I have ever met that did heroin are dumbshiats.

It feels like being wrapped up obliviously comfortable in your mother's womb floating in amniotic fluid. It is a hard feeling not to get stuck on. Life is full of little pains to escape from. In a first person perspective "The worst pain ever" is extremely varied from person to person. You do this and after it wears off even the smallest pains feel visceral and excruciating, so you could imagine anyone with any serious ailments would be strung out til next Sunday.

That "vaccination" that hasn't quite made it Stateside should help with preventing people from being slaves to the stuff, if it ever breaks through silly barriers.

Echoing other people, the Gateway concept is B.S. , especially with something as tame as Cannabis. Heroin is a horse of a different color.

Rich suburban kids may be naive, but they are just as prone to having parents that are rarely there (parents that work long hours and leave to kids to raise themselves.) It may sound immature, but that is a pain some kids feel the need to escape from. Heroin isn't forgiving, and it surely isn't their friend.
