Santorum has chosen not to use a teleprompter during his speeches.

And it shows.

So before teleprompters, did he think candidates' words were all their own? Speechwriters didn't emerge until the advent of the teleprompter?

Next up, banning index cards and making Sarah Palin wash her hand.

I smell desperation.

2012-03-12 01:17:52 PM
I want them to make it illegal to have God talk through you when campaigning. We're electing a president, not a prophet.

The pettiness of these bastards is astounding. The fact that conservatives are proud to be so ridiculous and pointless really says all we need to know about them.

Republicans actually think these children and intellectual infants are qualified to run a nation. How do you not just laugh at them?

2012-03-12 01:18:19 PM
That's some good small government conservatism for 'ya right there.

Vodka Zombie: The pettiness of these bastards is astounding. The fact that conservatives are proud to be so ridiculous and pointless really says all we need to know about them.

The really farked up thing is that it's pettiness not out of any real significance, but out of an already manufactured "problem" with Obama. If the Derrick Bell video proved anything other than that a man sometimes needs to eat a sandwich, it's that he can talk fine without a teleprompter. It's pettiness based on the narrative, not any sort of tactical advantage or something that would seriously hurt him.

2012-03-12 01:22:14 PM
If he is the candidate the GOP settles on I am certain that Obama could spot him a teleprompter, a earpiece where he can hear advice from his handlers and a 10 minute to 2 minute rebuttal time in Santorum's favor and Obama would wipe the floor with him at a debate

2012-03-12 01:23:03 PM
Once again I am not convinced that republicans actually know how a teleprompter works.

2012-03-12 01:23:13 PM
Bloody William: If the Derrick Bell video proved anything other than that a man sometimes needs to eat a sandwich, it's that he can talk fine without a teleprompter.

This. He sounds exactly the same without it.

2012-03-12 01:23:38 PM
FTA: "See, I always believed that when you run for president of the United States, it should be illegal to read off a teleprompter," he said. "Because all you're doing is reading someone else's words to people."

You might want to give other people's words a shot, Ricky.

2012-03-12 01:23:56 PM
"Wah, I'm not as good at public speaking as others, it's not fair, wah". "Make them hobble themselves so I can compete, wah"

-Sounds pretty Republican to me.

2012-03-12 01:27:00 PM
So the President of the United States is one of the busiest people in the world, so you want to make him spend hours of time memorizing a speech that he is going to give anyways? Can you tell me why?

2012-03-12 01:27:22 PM
Bloody William: Derrick Bell video proved anything other than that a man sometimes needs to eat a sandwich

Something the anti-sandwich media doesn't want you to see!

I noticed a Freeper make that same point in a casual way in-between about twelve paragraphs of hate. I was amused to see it sink in.

Dogberry: FTA: "See, I always believed that when you run for president of the United States, it should be illegal to read off a teleprompter," he said. "Because all you're doing is reading someone else's words to people."

It's amazing, isn't it?

He really hasn't a clue what a teleprompter is or how it works. He doesn't think he can put his OWN WORDS into it (or, have an adult put his words into it for him). This is how stupid conservatives really are. It's hilarious.

If this man can't plan a speech 3 days ahead of time how the Hell is he going to run a country?

As with the other self-contradicting hate they have for the man, like being a Marxist Corporatist, they want to have both ways. This one is "can't speak without one" contradicting "this is the real guy."

WI241TH: If this man can't plan a speech 3 days ahead of time how the Hell is he going to run a country?

Not only that, but apparently, the person reading from the teleprompter cannot possibly have written the words displayed on the teleprompter, because...I dunno... aborted fetuses, or something. I can't follow Santorum's "logic" even at the best of times.

2012-03-12 01:45:29 PM
Dang readin' iz fer them uppity college types!

2012-03-12 01:52:15 PM
Obama beat McCain in 3 debates without a teleprompter. Santorum has never had a National debate in front of a real American audience. Obama wouldn't even have to show-up and Santorum would still lose.

2012-03-12 01:53:11 PM
30-year-old student Obama would kick Santorum's ass in a debate.

GWB did...for 8 years.

And the loyal GOP derposphere want another crack at it.

2012-03-12 02:12:28 PM
do you think they were sitting around late at night saying, "fark. what do we have to do to break through here? i know - teabaggers hate the teleprompter! even though every president since nixon used it, including reagan, we'll say it should be illegal!"

2012-03-12 02:37:53 PM
Y'know, maybe if Rick had a speechwriter load a script into a TelePrompTer for him to read, he wouldn't say stupid shiat like this.

2012-03-12 02:44:42 PM
The ghost of former President Herbert Hoover would like to have a word with you, Rick.

2012-03-12 02:45:33 PM
The only thing small government about Santorum is him not wanting federal money to be spent investing in national infrastructure or helping out poor or middle class people. In everything else, he's big government. He's big government in the military and police state aspects, and he's HUGE government in government control of the personal lives of Americans.

2012-03-12 02:49:51 PM
I don't remember teleprompters being in the constitution, so Mr. Santorum has a case.

2012-03-12 02:51:33 PM
Santorum can say whatever he wants at this point. He might get elected Douche of the Year, but that race is kind of full these days as well.

2012-03-12 02:52:25 PM
This is almost as bad as the time he said he wanted to make it illegal to be a woman.

2012-03-12 02:52:45 PM
After the Republican retreat debacle, I would think the right wing would have learned their lesson with Obama and his speech/debate abilities. Then again, I always catch myself overestimating just how dumb the modern right wing is in America

I don't laugh because I'm too scared they might win.

Yeah, and you should see what the Spreading One wants to do to you if you buy birth control for your TelePrompter.

BTW, I'd give you about even money that the reason Obama uses TelePrompters is that those particular ones are most likely bulletproof, and used by the Secret Service to deal with "threat areas". There's a lot of nearly-psychotic freepers out there with large rifles and powerful scopes. Having stuff in front of Obama while he gives speeches is probably A Good Thing.

On behalf of Western Pennsylvanians everywhere, I'd like to apologize for putting this man upon the national stage. We figured that after his 19 point drubbing back in '06, we would have heard the end of him.

Apparently, we underestimated the staying power of Santorum in the end.

If they claim this, I want to see actual miracles. I say a 1 hour debate followed by a an hour of them curing the blind or something.
