Considering Ron Zook was fired it doesn't appear to be acceptable in football, either.

Losing to Northwestern is still not acceptable

Cajnik: Losing to Northwestern is still not acceptable

They've gotten better in recent years, but yeah, they're still a bad loss.

/Hopes the NIT has a sense of humor and sets up an Illinois-Illinois State game

The AD from TFA: "I don't know if you want to say (that) we're running in place, or maybe even digressed."

What, did he digress into coaching softball? Or did the program regress?

And Tom Osborne fired Doc Sadler at NU this afternoon...so Nebrasketball gets to start over yet again.

NU will have a brand-new arena and has one of the nicest practice facilities in the country. I don't expect them in the NCAA tourney every year, but how about once or twice every four years???

That Nebraska game was hard to watch. I happened to be back in Chicago at an Illinois bar (Schoolyardon Southport) for that with about 20 friends who were mostly fellow alumni, and by the end, we were hoping Nebraska would double our score just to make it epic.

It's about time.

I think it is about time Illinois fans got a dose of reality. That reality, is that your program isn't that good, and no good coaches want to go there. I can't wait to hear the panic after Shaka Smart and Buzz Williams use you to get raises.

I dunno, the chump at Villanova might be ready to jump ship. He's following the Bruce Weber plan of one good year followed by an endless stream of basketball dung.

And Ole Doc Sadler is right behind him.

This was not unexpected. RIP Bruce Self.

It's pretty sad actually. Bruce was a class act and I'm not sure who we'll find to replace him.

Mike Thomas (the new AD) has impressed me with what he's done to actually market the team in Chicago, but I'm really hoping he knows what he's doing with our football/hoops coaching situation.

// Just renewed my football season tickets for the 15th straight year

Eh. We've got a local billionaire donor who is REALLY into sports. I think we'll be able to pay up on what VCU can pay, so if it's a money thing, we'll win.

Illinois and Bruce havent been the same since the Hilltoppers from WKU put the beat down on them three years ago in the first round. Sorry, Bruce. Sorry, Illini.
Can we schedule you for our football homecoming? Call me.

Eh. Kelvin Sampson's recruiting techniques, Chester Frasier's broken foot, and a DUI had more to do with it.

Wait for that to be tried in court. It'll be a show like many have never seen before.

A top 15 program isn't that good? High standards you got there.

I'm sorry, but how do you get "top 15" from Illinois? I know you can count wins, but since somebody's already mentioned WKU, guess who has a higher win percentage. Here's a hint: It's not Illinois.

Sportsreference.com has them top 5 since '80. Forbes has them top ten in value. Seth Davis has it as a top ten job in ncaa bb. Add up all the wins, ncaa things, etc. and they are usually around top 15. How do you have them not in that area?

Who cares about WKU? the highlight of their program is beating a U of I team without a pg. That is their highlight because they beat a top 15 program.

There will be no dance of joy today. But congratulations on getting the reference.

Remember that does of reality I was talking about? It is going to plow your delusional ass into the freaking ground.

Lou Henson was a good coach, and since then, you've been either a stepping stone for good coaches to better jobs, or hiring idiots who can't handle the job.

That's not the profile of a top 15 program.

You bring in a kid from BRADLEY and say he's gonna be your leader and that he's "more cerebral" than your other pg. Ie, your pg can't think. Seriously, Wtf? How does that make him feel? How do you think it makes the rest of your team feel when you act like some outsider is gonna be your savior? You have a guy who can break out for 43 points in a game, yet you often sit him down. You consistently set up mismatches that hurt you and make bizarre coaching choices all season. You make lineup changes during a game (where the guys on the floor are just getting into a groove) that are so bad your own fans boo you. Was he a nice guy? Sure. But damn, did he suck. The finals team belonged to self, not weber. Enjoy your $3.9m buyout, jackass.

Yes, the NBA and KU are better jobs... they are better jobs than all but about 5 college jobs. Nothing shocking there. I guess KU is a crap program because Williams left it though.

I give you numbers and you just complain about job length. Here are more numbers: top 15 in wins and winning %. Do you have any support for saying they are not top 15?

And how will your "reality" plow my ass? Do you think the most attractive coaches won't look long and hard if u of I calls? Stevens won't (no way he leaves that state), but Smart will.

Illinois is at most the 5th best job in the Big 10.

Indiana is the only one on that list with a winning record against Illinois.

I doubt Izzo would be tempted to leave Michigan State for Illinois.
