This article should have been posted before the program aired so I'd have known when to watch. Y'know, so I could be properly outraged.

So let me get this straight...

You can be locked up for child porn for editing a photo to make it look like a child in a sexual pose. But dressing your 8 year old in a body-coloured leotard and having them gyrate their hips on stage in front of a crowd is fine?

What the fark

Young girls should not be doing any type of "Burlesque" performance...

WHAT THE FARK!?!?!?!

Who the fark thought THIS would be a good idea and why did it get approved? Because sexualizing young children is a good thing now?!

If this is on broadcast television, can we complain to the FCC for kiddy porn? WTF?!

That's just... wrong.

The target audience for Burlesque shows are horny men. Burlesque dancers were the pole strippers of their day. This is horrifying, because a normal horny man who might appreciate a nice pole routine would immediately have his testicles crawl right up into his belly were the pole dancers who showed up prepubescent little girls. The only people who would appreciate this performance are those who would like to see prepubescent child strippers. That is the audience.

And the parents are fine with it.

Um, no they don't.

I like how the dance instructor clarifies for us in the video: "The idea with the fan dance is that you cover your body with the fans, so you give the illusion that you're nude underneath the fans."

Um, yeah, we got that.

I so wish they would do these shows in states with child performer entertainment laws, or even better, California where they legally have to have welfare workers on the set, and never out of sight or earshot of the minors. You'd see this horrible, farked up, exploitation of children stop damned fast.

Unfortunately, they do it in Texas more often than not. In Texas, child performers under the age of 14 are required to obtain a permit. The only problem is, they apply once -- ever -- and it is good until they turn 14. I've seen some that expire in 2018 at this point. And nobody ever checks to see what they are doing.

Florida, Georgia, and Pennsylvania are really strict -- they demand scripts, specifics, and even send investigators to make sure there is nothing inappropriate going on. I'd love to see these shows get their asses nailed to a wall by a state Department of Labor that gives a crap about the well-being of child performers. Realistically, all they're doing is making it really easy for pedophiles to get their rocks off and not go to jail for it. Sickening.

I don't often feel violence towards people, but I want to take TLC's programming managers and whoever else though Toddlers and Tiaras and Dance Moms were good ideas out to the street and shoot them.

The parental behavior on display is not behavior we should be encouraging!

Well, since you brought it up. A coupla years ago one of the networks did a reality show about kids. It was a Lord of the allies kinda thing with kids left alone in some sort of ghost town with no adult supervision, left to fend for themselves. The network got around the child-actor requirements by filming somewhere like New Mexico that has no restrictions. And they classified the production as a summer camp.

People are so gullible. This has NOTHING to do with whether or not it's socially acceptable to be tarting up a bunch of pre-teen girls. It's all about "how many people can we get outraged about tarting up a bunch of pre-teen girls?" and "how can we create a ton of buzz to turn that outrage into advertising dollars?"

Any time you have a media-related event that is "outrageous" or "shocking" (or any of a half-dozen other similar adjectives), you can be sure it was either engineered or at the very least hyped up by the media itself.

Bottom line: this is about money, not tarted up little girls.

Circa 1993 I saw a dance school recital at the Milwaukee Summer Fest with six year old girls in leather biker outfits - the music was the Village People's YMCA.

That was kinda weird.

2012-03-09 06:11:58 PM
Hey, I like the "new car smell" in my strippers.

2012-03-09 06:12:38 PM
Why do I suddenly feel like I need to destroy my hard drive after watching that video. For Christ's sake, does it not ever once cross these people's minds that making children impersonate strippers while legal might not exactly be the best idea?

This shiat makes my skin crawl. It's bad enough that teenage girls feel the need to oversexualize themselves, not just to fit in with their peers, but to get attention from men, but now we're dropping that bar even lower to girls that haven't even gotten their period yet?

I'd rather be trapped in an elevator with a squalling infant that has a loaded diaper than spend 5 minutes in a public space with any of these cretins.
