An Excess- a superabundance. His usage looks spot on to me.

Dammit, I came too late to respond.

But I knew what the word meant before Steve Martin and Chevy Chase.

He's going to choose a team that's ready to win now. Miami would be lucky to make the wildcard, even with Manning.

2012-03-09 11:19:08 AM
for all the reasons Miami would work, i think the biggest reasons it wouldn't work are:

1. not a dome. Lots of heat in the early 1/2 of the season. Rain (it's south Florida after all)
2. New coaching staff. Gonna be a lot of wrinkles to work out early on, Peyton is long in the tooth and doesn't have time for shenanigans.
3. Brady factor. Having to play him twice a year may turn off Manning. Patriots are almost always Peyton's kryptonite, in the regular and postseason. Far less intimidating to play Tavaris, Bradford and Smith twice in a year in the NFC West.

The last Super Bowl loss will be the straw that breaks that camel's back. Brady will be 35 years old going into the season. Welker is getting old too. This offseason, teams are going to better learn to defend the two tight-end set. The Patriots are now in a serious decline and will be lucky to take 3rd in the AFC East next season.

I dislike the Patriots. I don't see them missing the playoffs. Three Reasons 1) Jets. 2) Dolphins. 3) Bills. They Pats will go greater than .500 in their division. The rest of the AFC East is .500 or the Bills.

As a dolphins fan, I would rather take my chance with Flynn. A lot of dolphans, like heat fans, are typically bandwagon (more so with the heat though). They will all be star struck and bright eyed and rush the stadium throwing their monies at the owners. That's it.

And for how long? I think Miami is better than they look on paper, but manning is not the solution imo.

As long as his goal is to play instead of winning a superbowl, Miami is a perfect fit..

Another reason why Peyton Manning and the Dolphins are a good fit: it's only recently that each of them surpassed 50,000 yards.

You must be too young to remember Howard Cosell. I swear to Gawd that was one of his favorite words...

Hey, I had high hopes for Cleo Lemon. And he was better than Culpepper, Joey Harrington, Trent Green or John Beck.

I'm not saying young and raw is always the right solution, just that old and worn out brings its own set of problems.

Depends how you look at it. Chances are, you'll get Flynn significantly cheaper than Manning. If he pans out, you've got a long term solution since the guy is really young. If he doesn't, no harm done...you didn't overpay to get him.

Manning...he's a risk. He's going to be pricey no matter where he plays, and without a dome, a few top notch receivers and a likely HoF TE with that brick wall of an Oline in front of him, who knows how he'll play. He's not mobile AT ALL, so a few good hits and your $15-20mil QB may be a benchwarmer.

ihatedumbpeople: for all the reasons Miami would work, i think the biggest reasons it wouldn't work are:

1. not a dome. Lots of heat in the early 1/2 of the season. Rain (it's south Florida after all)

He honestly couldn't care less. His AWAY record is and always has been phenomenal. I repeat: Play in a Dome != Can't play in an open stadium.

2. New coaching staff. Gonna be a lot of wrinkles to work out early on, Peyton is long in the tooth and doesn't have time for shenanigans.

Agree.

Nonsense myth perpetuated by Patriots fans. For the most part, Peyton has had the Patriots number in the past 5-6 years. I'll give you that he struggled with the Patriots Defense the first few years, but Peyton has an impressive knack for scaring the shiat out of Belichick, and causing him to panic.

Now, if you would've stated that the Chargers were Manning's Kryptonite, I'd agree... but that doesn't really play to the East Coast narrative, does it?

pjlawrence81: The Dolphins aren't terrible.

They have a roster of good players, but they don't always cohere as a team to play anything more than mediocre football. I'm beginning to think the coaching staff is the bigger issue than getting a new shiny quarterback.
