Looks like the secret faxes I used to get when I worked at the Department of National Defence. (Or was it the Department of National Defense? I can never remember which is which. I think it was the first one.)

Military communications is an oxymoron.

The reports on impurities in the oil in tanks and HAVs was more legible than the average fax because I know most of the elements in the periodic table.

Let me see if I can decode some of this gobbledegook:

OLRTXT HARW DPR REC NAMEC CASE1 EMRG (Emerging) HK Hong Kong US USA CN China HDWR Hardware NEWS News ENT;0334.HK AAPL.O (Apple)

Did I get any of that right? It seems to say that there is an emerging new story about Apple hardware in China and Hong Kong. The first five or six items look like some kind of HTML or Telex coding that formats the following text in some way.

That said...RVRY1 PNC 11-TY!!

I bet the R in one of the first 4 'words' stands for Reuters. Maybe DPR stands for Democratic Peoples Republic?

Parser is broken or input is badly formatted, the headline is the keywords, the first line "Proview Shenzhen asks China distributors to halt iPad sales" is supposed to be the headline.

2012-03-08 05:07:45 PM
At a guess, I'd say Reuters slug codes (new window) -- kind of like metatags for their CMS. That don't normally go into the headline, obviously.

I love this pic so much. I have no idea what it means or why I find it funny. I could be delirious from this work problem I have been having, namely that I have to do stuff, but we can save that for another Oprah.

At a guess I'd say that these are actually Associated Press header codes, telling the associated press distribution system what categories the story falls into. Very simmialr to the Reuters slug codes that were mentioned previously.
