SubBass49: Mock26: I have a dream. I want to compose a simple test dealing with key Federal and Supreme Court lawsuits that cover student rights (for example, one question would be, True or False, you can kick out a student who is pregnant?) and I will travel the country giving this test to school administrators. Those that fail will then be beaten with a hard-cover book containing all of these cases. For those who fail the test it can be assumed that they were incapable of learning through normal means so maybe learning through osmosis will work.

Seriously, how the hell do so many schools continually fark up on constitutional rights of their students? The number of landmark cases that are relevant are not that many, only a few dozen, and many of those cover similar topics (such as prayer in school). Every principal in the country should be required to take a course on the United States Constitution and how it applies to students and schools.

This just in: Most school administrators have no background in constitutional law.

Now back to your regularly scheduled fark...

It's not just about the kids rights. This is horrible behavior. It really just looks like the principal wanted the kids to see this kid as a bad person who made bad choices.

Well, that's not how it works. Yes, she made a bad decision. But that doesn't make her a bad person, and she may be even more successful than some of her friends, who may learn by observing her why its such a difficult choice. The other kids are going to see how she has to spend all of her time with the baby. They'll see how having a baby at a young age changes your life and how you have to work harder to achieve your goals.

2012-03-07 11:41:44 PM
I originally thought that she was attractive and successful, then I realized that a lawsuit was her only way to get proper remuneration for her plight as a ancestrally persecuted person prior to the three long years she must wait before getting an ownership share in her casino.

They would if they followed their book closely.

Now, with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union, Hicks has filed suit against the school, claiming they violated her constitutional rights.

15 years old, already a mother and never gonna have to work another day in her life once the ACLU is through with this. She should write that principle a thank you note and hand deliver it as he's clearing out his desk after the inevitable firing.

Try 40 years. My parents were married at 16 and had my sister a year later, during my mom's senior year. They told her pregnant students must complete their diploma via correspondence, even married ones, because they "make the school look bad." My mom wasn't a troublemaker, either, she had been involved in student government and all that rot. This was in 1970 in a Southern California high school near Long Beach.

They allowed her to come on campus only to practice with the choir. They had to give a solo performance for their midterm, and my mother waddled in there 7 months pregnant and sang "I'm Just a Girl Who Can't Say No" from Oklahoma. I guess I know where my troll genes come from.

Regressive Puritans want the 1600's back.

Can the Puritans be blamed for this one since everyone involved is Native American and the purpose of the school is not only to educate children but to keep the Navajo culture alive?

Do the Navajos slut shame?

The revived concept of "public boarding school for Native American children from kindergarten through 8th grade" is interesting. Are children punished for speaking English attending them like they used to be for using their native language a hundred years ago?

Animatronik: Give an example of a major government that was a Christian theocracy anytime, anyplace.

This may surprise you, but the Catholic Church developed its own theocratic system in Europe with allegedly secular authorites to exercise control over public officials. It was even more blatant throughout Eastern Europe and the Orthodox churches ethno-nationalism. And this was over hundreds and hundreds of years. And this doesn't count the issues with English Protestantism and Oliver Cromwell. There's plenty of theocracy to go around in all major world religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism too.

At least the way too young mother will have money to take care of her child when she wins the lawsuit, or the ACLU makes sure they settle out of court for a handsome sum.

It's not a HIPPA issue, in this case, but if you read the article, it's "violation of constitutional rights to equal protection and of the Title IX prohibition against sex and pregnancy discrimination in education."

It's HIPAA not HIPPA

There's a huge difference in being far enough along that it is obvious, and marching a fifteen year old girl up on stage (or however they did the assembly) to announce it to a ton of people. Some women never even 'show' enough for it to be obvious, although it's rare I guess.

Think about it, when you were 15, did you ever want to go in front of a mob and say anything? Unless you were that one kid in theater that loved it, no, you didn't.

Clearly, Republican logic means that guys should have sex with one another instead of with girls.

Regardless of how one feels about personal responsibility, etc., I find it absolutely nauseating that anyone would try to justify or condone the public humiliation of a child in front of her peers.

And she's a "bad example"? Maybe she should just sew a big red letter "A" on her clothes and stand on the pillory for an hour to make you purists happy.
