Heaven knows he's miserable now.

Frankly, Mr. Morrissey, you're a petulant pain in the arse.

2012-03-07 07:19:08 PM
Does he have a new album coming out or a tour starting soon or what?

2012-03-07 07:53:07 PM
Nah, he's a whiny AW who thinks everyone should share his views and he will go to great lengths to try to shame people into line.

Oh, and a horrible crooner monotone pseudo-singer with a clever wit.

2012-03-07 08:58:28 PM
why should he let it go? he can tour the world and apparently has the ticket sales to support it. you don't have to go, man. just ... let it go.

/side note: his animosity to the crown is long since shocking

Didn't the LA Latino gang culture have a thing for him? I'll never understand that one.

Why is he complaining, he can tour there without any immigration or border crossing problems.

Yeah...Chuck Klosterman wrote a whole article about that. I don't get it either but apparently Latinos are his biggest fan base now.

What about the fact that every inhabitant of the Falkland Islands is an English-speaking UK citizen and they overwhelmingly (like 95 percent) want to remain that way rather than being forcibly invaded by a jingoistic Argentine government?

Let's see how well his "Las Malvinas" schtick goes over in, ya know, the actual islands in question?

The My Little Pony Killer: Does he have a new album coming out or a tour starting soon or what?

He wishes. Fact is, he would love to put out a new album, but he can't find anyone willing to record him. Seriously! For most people that would be a big un-ignorable sign that perhaps there is something amiss on the home front, but this guy just doesn't seem to get it.

Wow. I was just making fun of that dingleberry last night.

Of course, I make fun of that dingleberry a lot, so it wasn't a special night.

He was my favorite singer as a kid. I loved him. And as his solo albums dragged on and on, I had my first experience of what an Attention Whore truly is.

I'd love him to make another album. Granted, I've only enjoyed two to four of the songs from his most recent, but compared to most artists, it's still a win.

I used to think Johnny Marr was a fool for breaking up the Smiths. And while I'd love to see them re-form and hear them live, I respect that Marr won't do it. He created brilliant songs with Moz and has since gone on to do his own thing. While it's been hit and miss (IMO), his work with Modest Mouse was briliant. I'd love to see him do more with other bands.

What I came for. "I tried and died and cried inside and then I tried and cried inside again..." All done in four distinct minor notes!

He does realize that there are practically no Vegetarians in South America right?

I mean everyone at his concerts there ATE MEAT

2012-03-08 03:22:32 AM
Meh, my first reaction when seeing a Morrissey thread up was "What's the daft AW done now?", fully expecting it to be another one of those "strip searching fans looking for meat products and then getting pelted on stage by smuggled Slim Jims" type of stories but instead it's just Moz on a SA tour getting his back up singers to wear tshirts disrespectful to the British monarchy in support of the idear that the Maldives belong to Argentine properly.

Tshirts could have been a bit more on point but other than that this is hardly a thing.

/Still listen to old Smiths albums and the odd song or two from his solo stuff.

I used to think this guy hung the moon, but lately he's more famous for being a xenophobic, racist twat than for anything he's done in the music industry. Too bad, because I loved the Smiths in the day, and I rediscovered his solo stuff and thought that by and large it was really fantastic.

I still get it all a little mixed up with Morrisey having been in the Smiths and Robert Smith having been in the Cure and both from the same musical era.

Mind you that Roger Waters has denied he supports the Argentine claim and says he was misinterpreted in the Chile press conference...

you mean the guy that lived in LA for a very long time is a racist and anti-immigrant? how does that make sense?

the guy has always written songs with social commentary. just because characters in his songs belong to the national front doesn't mean he advocates the national front.

If you think Moz' viewpoints on the Falklands are somehow radical, let me also introduce to other radical Brits Elvis Costello (Shipbuilding), Billy Bragg (Island of No Return), The Exploited (Let's Start A War), Joe Strummer (Combat Rock), Iron Maiden (Como Estais Amigos), Split Enz (Six Months In A Leaky Boat).

Remember folks ... .play your instruments like *this* = Counter culture radical and/or punk hero. Play your instruments like *that* = SHUT UP AND SING!!!

ElMariachi: What about the fact that every inhabitant of the Falkland Islands is an English-speaking UK citizen and they overwhelmingly (like 95 percent) want to remain that way rather than being forcibly invaded by a jingoistic Argentine government?

There's a small minority of Chileans and others, including a few Argentinians, on those god-forsaken bits of rock, but you're correct, they want nothing to do with Argentina. On this other board I go to where this is a topic, someone keeps screeching "But the British stole it!". This ignores the fact that when the Dutch went there in ca. 1600, there were no inhabitants. The Argentinians, who had no real claim other than "Hey, they're close to us!" were driven out for good in 1834, so if they want to claim 178 years later "Sure, we got our asses kicked all those decades ago but shut up!" fine. The real reason they care is that there might be recoverable oil reserves in the archipelago.

As for Moz, when will you die? The last time he was relevant was when he was working with Stephen Street > The Last Of The Famous International Playboys single.

The lyrics speak for themselves. If you're always calling for separatism and mocking other races and cultures, I'd say it goes beyond "character" writing and starts to become racism, yes.

another pedantic rock star. i still love him.

Last saw him at Coachella. He made an outright biatchass of himself but, in hindsight, I should have expected it. Too bad. The band he tours with are farkin great. Even tho Moz was still pitching a hissy fit over cooked meat smell by the time How Soon is Now? rolled around, the band were up to it. They delivered a memorable performance.
