Well backing up her data just proves as much as a backwater rube he looks to be, he still has some tech savvy.

I still liked the swift hand of justice he served on his kid.

For someone who only wanted to communicate via Facebook because he didn't want his words twisted, and someone who wanted to show his daughter that you it would be wrong to profit from this, he's totally bought into the AWing, fatass Kardashian-level and all.

Hopefully, he'll have his "Balloon Boy" moment. Soon.

Oh, screw it all. He'll have his own redneck hillbilly tech support show on Discovery. When's the next flight off this planet?

Ya know...

My father got pissed at me and sent my pet Jersey off to be slaughtered. My rabbits got sent to auction for meat and he sold my horse.
I'd asked for these things and my folks got them for me out of their hard-earned money. I started acting like an entitled, bratty, lil biatch and didn't hold my end of the bargain... do farm work, not act like an utter brat, and take care of my animals. And I persisted in acting like a brat even after being warned of the potential outcome.

A laptop (with BACKED UP data) ain't shiate.

Kids are dumb and often don't believe there are actual consequences until the actually experience said consequences. The only thing that got hurt in this entire thing was an inanimate object that would be entirely obsolete in a very short time.
Frankly, the life lesson (providing it is learned) is going to do that girl a lot more good in the long run than that laptop ever would.

THIS.

Seriously, if you're so incapable of handling children that you shoot their things when they don't obey RIGHT THIS SECOND!!!111!!1!, you might want to go forwarn CPS that you've got only a few months before you start abusing them.

/Really, this is the entire mentality behind abuse: You Are Mine, You Are Not Obeying Me, Ergo I Punish You.
//A normal parent is the one who doesn't feel the need to not only break into locked FB posts, but shoot things because their teenager whined on FB.

Boy, this sure takes away from the 'I'm pissed and I'm doing this as a spur of the moment thing, and deciding to make a video just because' thing, doesn't it. Take away the supposed spontaneity, and you just have a schmuck who wanted to get on YouTube.

As for those who are saying that it was somehow 'admirable', they are ignoring that fact that he most likely PAID for the laptop originally, it's a stupid move, he could have wiped and sold it and made just as good a point, while getting at least something for his investment.

And as for HOW he did the backup, who knows? The original story pointed out that the guy works in the IT field, so I'm pretty sure he understands how to back up data and image a hard drive.

I'm also curious about his original claims that his .45 rounds cost a buck a piece, did he pull them straight from the Pope's ass or something? You can fire some generic grade ammo into a laptop just as well, and save a shiat-ton of money in the process. Just reinforces the idea that he is a publicity whore.

Kids - and hell, a lot of adults - occasionally need to be reminded that somebody else (usually their parents, or the government, or their much put-upon spouse) is carrying their weight + 1. This guy gave his kid a rather overly dramatic, somewhat drama queen-ey reality check, but it was a reality check and I still approve.

After all, it was his damned laptop.

Remembering to always back up is just another lesson that everybody has to learn eventually.

Hate to tell ya, but sometimes these things are more complex than you are insinuating. Peer influence and other factors can make quite an impact on child behavior.

Yes. I'm aware of that, but a child in a broken home with a new step-mother can also influence her behavior. My point is that he surely didn't just wake up that morning and realize his child was a spoiled brat. He's also only given his side of the story.

How did she get that laptop? Her clothes? Her iPad? Etc.? They didn't just fall out of the sky. Daddy bought them for her. Now he's suddenly Billy bad ass because she insulted him on Facebook?

His reaction was unwarranted and excessive. Was that video necessary? He claims in it that his daughter won't even see it, but he made sure it went online for everyone else to see. Was shooting that laptop necessary? Way to waste a machine worth a grand or so. His reaction showed more of his ego than his stellar parenting skills.

He's just as immature as his daughter apparently is.

I finally watched that video for the first time recently. Between the guy claiming he was a highschool student/college student/firefighter at 15 and his nonsense about "exploding hollowpoints," (to say nothing of filming himself shooting a computer) I dismissed him as an attention whore.

He also claimed to be an IT expert who cleverly got into his daughter's account, then later admitted that he only saw her rant because of access through another shared account that she forgot to block.

I don't care if the girl is in the right or in the wrong. Her daddy's a buffoon.

Your Dad's a dick. Or was.

Life on the farm is different than growing up in the city. When I was 8 or 9, I accidentally ran over our dog with the pickup while taking the old man lunch in the field. It broke her back, but she was still very much alive. I got her off the road and went and told him. His response was "Well, the .22 is behind the seat. You ran over her, you take care of it.". I had to go back, get out the gun, put it between her eyes as she looked up at me with confused, pleading eyes, and pull the trigger. Then I loaded her body in the pickup and drove home. I also had to routinely "euthanize" baby pigs that weren't going to survive. That usually involved a hammer, and I'll spare you the details. I have many more, but the dog was probably the worst and definitely the hardest.

Mom didn't find out he actually made me shoot the dog until many years later. She was not at all impressed.

Wait, so you dad allowed an 8 year old to drive a pickup truck, and then when something predictable happened like you hitting something, he made you shoot it? Good god, you don't have a brother named Leatherface, do you?

Yep, shooting it is just stupid. Waste of money.ihatedumbpeople: Hmmm...I didn't get the impression that he went looking for attention.

HE POSTED A VIDEO ON YOU TUBE.

How the Hell is that 'not looking for attention'? If he wanted to remain anonymous and still send the video message to his daughter, there are other ways that don't involve the interwebs...

So anyone who has ever posted anything on youtube is looking for attention? It's not like he sent it out to media outlets. His daughter wrote a letter about how bad her parents/life were and posted it on facebook. He made a rebuttal video and posted it on her facebook page so the same people would see the followup.

He's a grown man acting out with a firearm because he feels threatened by what a bunch of Junior High Schoolers are saying about him on Facebook.

It's got nothing to do with discipline and everything to do with wanting to look like a badass to a bunch of teenaged girls.

Every kid needs to be disciplined now an then. Making a public spectacle out of it serves only to gratify your own ego.

Time consuming, mildly inconvenient on a laptop, requires hardware that non-heat-seeking laptops rarely have vs. a minute with a screwdriver? He pulled the hard drive.

He's also a redneck, so he couldn't resist trying to resolve an issue by shooting something.

Redneck and IT support is probably a frequent combination in the south east of the United States. It certainly is in the northern parts of Australia. Julian Assange? Townsville. Same as the Powerpuff Girls.

Forget it from me. I gave up on having an opinion once everyone declared him a hero, his wife asked him to shot one for her, cops patted him of the back and gave him a case of beer, and CPS gave him "Father of the Year" honors.

Doctor Phil trolled him hard and good, and yanked him into the spotlight. That's why he's on the AW tour.

I'm guessing you're a troll, but can you imagine what an awesome gift that would be for an under-privileged youth? I would have loved a computer when I was a kid and I'm sure there are plenty of kids even these days whose parents can't afford one.
