Imperialism: Shooting a laptop because his daughter posted an opinion online. You know, parenting.

/the internet has replaced diaries
//teens think they know everything, film at 11

Except normally the kid writing in a diary wouldn't want other people reading it. Now it's all AW, all the time.

ltdanman44: If I were her dad, I would have made her destroy it herself

For added traumatization, course.

I probably would have just taken out the cpu and left her with the brick.

MooseUpNorth: Fark Me Runnin: Imaging hard drives is difficult??

Time consuming, mildly inconvenient on a laptop, requires hardware that non-heat-seeking laptops rarely have vs. a minute with a screwdriver? He pulled the hard drive.

There probably wouldn't be much point in imaging it anyway. Most people don't have enough stuff to require more than a decent-sized thumb drive. Especially fat chicks who use facebook.

Southerners must not be THAT stupid. Two of the largest banks in the world are located there, as well as nuclear facilities, spaceports, major tourist destinations, ports, infrastructure....Gosh it seems the North might have lost after all. Or anything north of the 35th parallel.

2012-03-07 03:59:40 PM
So the lesson here is, guns are bad, microwave the laptop instead?

2012-03-07 04:00:03 PM
If your reaction as a parent to teenage rebellion is to pull out your gun and shoot something rather than dealing with the actual issue, you failed.

Imag-ing all the hard driiives....
It's easy if you tryyyyy.....

Ok Mr. Lennon. Apparently staying alive is hard to do as well.

redmid17: Mog32Kupo: Well backing up her data just proves as much as a backwater rube he looks to be, he still has some tech savvy.

I still liked the swift hand of justice he served on his kid.

Would I have done it? No! ...I don't own a gun

/Probably would of ran over it with the car
//or submerge it in water

A 5 lb sledge will do the job just as easily.

/wonder if he imaged the drive or just copied the user folder

Read the article, it says he saved the drive. I take that to mean he pulled it out.

Issue: daughter posting inane bullshiat on FB.
Solution: destroy means of posting inane bullshiat on FB.
Issue dealt with.

SomethingToDo: darkscout: Those who missed the video he's an IT guy.

This. He couldn't help hisself.

He's also a redneck, so he couldn't resist trying to resolve an issue by shooting something.

Redneck and IT support is probably a frequent combination in the south east of the United States. It certainly is in the northern parts of Australia. Julian Assange? Townsville. Same as the Powerpuff Girls.

You're from OZ. Much of California thinks you're in another part of the world that also starts with an A, or one of it's economic children. I mean really, Sydney is just a San Diego aftermarket clone.

Imaging hard drives is difficult??

It's not that it's difficult. But unless you put it into another laptop that's roughly 90% compatible hardware-wise, you will have to reinstall the OS, drivers, and all your programs anyway.
So whether he just imaged it or copied off the documents, it wouldn't matter. The only things that are left are the documents.

However... That was a colossal waste of a good chunk of hardware. He should have sold it on eBay and bought a new gun.

2012-03-07 04:06:12 PM
Boy, this sure takes away from the 'I'm pissed and I'm doing this as a spur of the moment thing, and deciding to make a video just because' thing, doesn't it. Take away the supposed spontaneity, and you just have a schmuck who wanted to get on YouTube.

As for those who are saying that it was somehow 'admirable', they are ignoring that fact that he most likely PAID for the laptop originally, it's a stupid move, he could have wiped and sold it and made just as good a point, while getting at least something for his investment.

And as for HOW he did the backup, who knows? The original story pointed out that the guy works in the IT field, so I'm pretty sure he understands how to back up data and image a hard drive.

I'm also curious about his original claims that his .45 rounds cost a buck a piece, did he pull them straight from the Pope's ass or something? You can fire some generic grade ammo into a laptop just as well, and save a shiat-ton of money in the process. Just reinforces the idea that he is a publicity whore.

He exercised his rights and responsibilities as a parent. Good on him. I'm just not sure that I would have posted anything online about it. That was a little AWish of him.

But that's the sort of thing we debated when the video first broke. Now we should all be focusing our comments on what a disgusting fat cow she is.

The mom gets a pass. She's already got her man.

2012-03-07 04:09:10 PM

Mirrorz: Would the public's opinion of this guy be different if he spoke will a nasal yankee accent?

Yes, because there wouldn't be a video, and the laptop would be "sleeping with the fishes."

Ya know...

My father got pissed at me and sent my pet Jersey off to be slaughtered. My rabbits got sent to auction for meat and he sold my horse.
I'd asked for these things and my folks got them for me out of their hard-earned money. I started acting like an entitled, bratty, lil biatch and didn't hold my end of the bargain... do farm work, not act like an utter brat, and take care of my animals. And I persisted in acting like a brat even after being warned of the potential outcome.

A laptop (with BACKED UP data) ain't shiate.

Kids are dumb and often don't believe there are actual consequences until the actually experience said consequences. The only thing that got hurt in this entire thing was an inanimate object that would be entirely obsolete in a very short time.
Frankly, the life lesson (providing it is learned) is going to do that girl a lot more good in the long run than that laptop ever would.

God damn I love these stories. They totally bring out the "who is this guy" in fellow Fark posters. I bet with 80% accuracy you could take the few people who post on this stuff and tell:

Very true if you use Ghost or something. But actually, the new Windows image format (if you sysprep it first anyway) goes through pretty much the whole setup process. It's not too shabby.

I was resistant to the change until I started using a Windows Deployment Server. I still use Ghost to make straight-up clones, though.

So anyone who has ever posted anything on youtube is looking for attention? It's not like he sent it out to media outlets. His daughter wrote a letter about how bad her parents/life were and posted it on facebook. He made a rebuttal video and posted it on her facebook page so the same people would see the followup.

You set up the model PC (install and configure everything the way you want it) just the way you normally would. But now, instead of needing a whole separate image for pretty much every model you deal with, it's more or less "one size fits all" now. So all your software and any data you included in the image are ready to roll. You can even automate the setup and namiing/joining and junk if you want.

Making sure you have enough legit licenses to do all that is still up to you.

It's true that when it first came out, the Windows 7 installation process used to be better at finding drivers for most hardware (even if better ones exist),. but you can inject drivers into your base image from time to time as well.
