It's only the WNBC, not the real NBC.

ZAZ: It's only the WNBC, not the real NBC.

Is WNBC the same idea as WNBA?

She looks pretty damned good for 68.

I hope I look like that when I'm 68.

(that sentence seems wrong somehow)

What the fark subby is referring to

Sue is a NYer but also a lady. She apologizes when she is a biatch.

It was entirely NBC's decision to break up the city's best-known local anchor pair, Simmons and Chuck Scarborough.

I lived in signal range of WNBC for part of the 1980s. I must have seen both of them. I recognize his name, not hers.

WEEEEENNNNNNBC!

Wow. When I go to visit Gram up in NJ it's oddly comforting to see Chuck and Sue, fixtures since I was a kid, on the news.

I would gladly mic check her, ifyaknowwhatImean.

She was lucky to last that long.

Cindy Adams' writing style is virtually unreadable - she writes the way a four-year old speaks. In sentences. Of two. Words.

She should Sue them!

Is she writing Schnatter's lines for the Papa John's spots too then?

Classic....there's hardly anything on youtube that makes me laugh harder than local news mess ups, bloopers and fail.
I think it's because they try so damn hard.

Have the older people let go so they can make room for the younger generation?

Most people don't know that Cindy Adams passed away in 1992. Thanks to the crude-by-today's-standards animatronic technology available at the time a robotic Adams was created by the Imagineers at Disney World. (This is why Cindy Adams is never seen in public and always photographed in near-darkness.)

The android Adams was programmed to emit a series of shrill beeps and whistles which an onboard 64K Commodore computer translated into the language that appears in her columns, hence the short, childlike sentence structure.

Other animatronic celebrity recreations include former NYC Mayor Ed Koch (a repurposed garbage disposal) and of course the "ageless" Abe Vigoda (dec. 1983), a dehumidifier covered with bedsheets who continued to enjoy a robust roll-on career on TV -- if you look closely at the "Lost" pilot, a heavily made-up Vigoda appears as the overhead bin above seat 34-A on the doomed Transoceanic flight.

I'm going to be 35 this year, until I moved off Long Island in 2010, She and Chuck WERE the news. I remember watching her interviewing KISS when the fired Peter Criss, the oldest news story I remember watching. It's not until you move to another state that you realize how good the NY media is (of course they cherry pick from other states). Charlotte newscasters don't even give you the who, what, where, when and how.

Ralph Penza was with this group up until his death a few years ago, must have been the longest running trio on the same newscast, ever. I have a cousin that works on the Today Show , I'll get the details soon enough,.The news travels fast between the channels, I found out what a freak Steve Bartelstein was long before the news got out.

The one thing the article neglects to mention? Ratings. I don't know what they are among the local NY News combatants, but hey... ratings rules all in television. If they've been down consistently during her shift? Hate to say it, but there's the door.

Cruel? Yes. Unfair? Definitely. Reality? Yep.

Sort of a shame. I watched her on TV when I lived in NY in the late 80s. She was one of the better news anchors out there; smart, insightful, and humorous at times.

Knowing the media, they will probably replace her with some thin blonde 30 year old bubblehead with three brain cells and BJ lips.

Dear Sue;

Sue - you're almost 70. You will be missed from the air, but you should go enjoy your life. Give your family hugs and kisses and spoil your grand-kids, and enjoy the life of being one of the winners in life. I'ts been awesome having such a rock-solid person bring us the information that matters. It's been a privilege being in your audience.

Please please please write op-ed pieces for anyone who will accept them, because we need emeritus news-people to keep the standard of insight high in this very subjective industry.

We will miss you.

signed,
Queens.

Don't you support right to work laws/states? You should support her firing, it lets management show who is in charge.

Mearen: Age discrimination is awesome.

She's of retirement age and under contract. She can collect a pension and the station is under no legal obligation to renew it. Besides she probably can easily land a part time gig in a secondary market like Chicago or LA. Or Alburquerque. Or write a million dollar novel on TV life. Somehow I think she'll manage.

Why? Nobody's given us a reason. She looks great. Dresses great. Works great. Her "Q" rating, which assesses popularity, is great. No reason.

I think one can figure it out, they want fresh meat and faces. The article states she's the highest paid in the country (county?) so that means her spot will be freed up for 3 or 4 other up and coming broadcasters.

I must be getting old as I remember Sue and Chuck back in the 80s. I preferred Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. "Here now the news"

I'm not familiar with her stuff, but that story read like a quick email you'd fire off on the way to happy-hour.

"Scarborough reached out to hope she stays" is more than two words, though.

First of all, she was not fired.
She had a contract.
The contract was expiring.
The company decided not to renew the contract.

Nothing wrong with that.
