Oh sure. It's just after years of reading crap like this and the responses of various boards that pretty much run to the wrong side, we would be done.

What's that fairly current Fark phrase, "butthurt?"

I would think the butthurt of those that don't like Apple and/or livihood depends on writing negative things about Apple would be pretty much disavowed after 20+ years of being wrong.

However, I guess the new variable of Jobs death, we gotta do it all over. Again.

So, just so I'm clear... What you're saying... is that this company that you're being so dismissive of.. has been churning out intentionally inferior hardware and still wiping the floor with its competition?

ipadinsight.com

I'll paraphrase Obama's response re: gas prices to Fox News:

"kab, just from a business perspective, do you think the most valuable consumer electronics company in the world, going into its first year without its iconic CEO, wants to intentionally release a crippled product? ... Is there anybody here who thinks that makes a lot of sense?

I dunno. For my part, I'm a teacher, and I haven't bought either of the previous iPads, because I didn't have the cash and I had a perfectly usable portable computer. More recently, though, my laptop's showing itself to be a little long in the tooth, and I'm in the market for a replacement for my gradebooks and personal planner. If the iPad can run Pages, Keynote, and Numbers while providing astoundingly thorough teachers' resource apps-- damn right I'll buy one of these right out of the gate. The fact that it will sync wirelessly with my home computer and phone is a bonus. As I don't live in an area where anyone speaks my native language or gives a shiat about Apple products, I'm not sure who I'm supposed to be trying to impress, but if it makes you feel better and helps you make your point, I'll try to rub it in some kid's face. Cool?

"good enough" is the correct phrase, I'd say And Apple isn't the only company to do this, to be fair.. but it's certainly evident in their products.

For example, do you honestly believe there's a technical reason / limitation that the first iPad didn't have a camera?

2012-03-07 10:59:12 AM
I have not bought any of the previous iPad's either. I am waiting for "The Good One" to come out. The one with all the cool features:

1. 16 Mega pixel camera
2. 1080P display, with wireless HDMI link to TV
3. 1 TB of memory
4. Pre loaded with half of iTunes Music Library
5. $199.95 price tag.

kab: "good enough" is the correct phrase, I'd say And Apple isn't the only company to do this, to be fair.. but it's certainly evident in their products.

Regardless of the language Apple uses at its launch events, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who's purchased a few Apple products who honestly believe their hardware is "groundbreaking." Doesn't mean Apple doesn't provide an accessible user experience with the functionality that MOST consumers are concerned with, while still giving a shiat about aesthetics, at a competitive but not necessarily "bargain" price.

For example, do you honestly believe there's a technical reason / limitation that the first iPad didn't have a camera?

Yes, it did. Your argument is that it didn't have TWO cameras at launch. Come on.

Could it have? Possibly. Did it basically create the mainstream tablet market regardless? Eh- I'm not a fanboy, but I get it. I've got a custom-built PC desktop at home, and I love the hell out of it for a number of things. Still think Apple's good at what it does.

Also, I imagine there are a lot of people like me, for whom the third iteration will be their first iPad, for reasons like this- the first couple didn't have all the capability they needed, so they held out for some improvements. You sort of sound like a dick if you're being dismissive of people buying the new model, especially if they've held out for this product for the very same reasons you objected to its predecessors. Really- a lot of people know what it is they're looking for. All your Christian friends aren't necessarily evangelicals, either.

I'm not dismissing anyone who wants it, just recognizing the trend that goes along with their products.... You do realize there are folks out there that will drop coin on every new version of Apple gear, and the company certainly recognizes this.

Well, sure. I know "sort of" wealthy people who buy a new car every year and sell their old one. That's crazy, but not particularly rare. And those things are tens of thousands of dollars. Apple products are a tiny fraction of that price point, and I'd imagine a corresponding number of consumers treat those purchses the same way. No sweat off my back- keeps the company moving and innovating, and whether or not they're breaking new ground, it ensures that at some point they'll have something impressive that suits my needs at the right time.

Pick: 2. 1080P display, with wireless HDMI link to TV

I know you are joking, but if the iPad HD has the resolution most people think it does, it'll be better than 1080p resolution, it'll have no trouble displaying 1080p content natively. Also, with AirPlay you have a wireless HDMI link to your TV using the Apple TV as a conduit, although you can only do 720p currently. Granted, you have to buy an Apple TV, but at $99 it is less expensive most wireless HDMI adapters I have seen.

No one lines up for OS upgrades on Android phones.
And no one lines up to buy a new Android phone.

Seems Android users have a life, and can't spend hours queued for a new phone or tablet.

Android fanboys are every bit as obsessive as iDevice fanboys, and yeah they do waste just as much time talking about their devices and obsessing over the next upgrade. And as of recently, the marketing has become just as douchey.

I wouldn't call myself a fanboy but I have an android phone. Our household is completely cross-platform and happily so. I'm a nerd - of course I nerd out on technology to the extent I will read the tech press and post in fark threads. But it will be a cold farking day before I stand in line to buy a piece of tech (or hell, anything really besides a movie ticket). Never done it, never will. I mean the line will be gone in a couple days and I'd probably just order from the web anyway. My last two phones were purchased craigslist used for cash at the coffee shop up the street. I'm old - I ain't standing in lines and I am mystified that people would wait for hours in a phone line. But hey, we all do weird shiat so who cares really?
