It's Dade, Jim

I wonder if she took them out onto I-95. Nothing more fun than watching cars with mattresses tied to them going 70+ MPH. When that top mattress finally catches the wind and bends backwards in the middle, I just LMAO at the sight. When the rope finally snaps the fun really begins!

Animals, I understand. They're dirty. Children for the same reason. But matresses? A guy's gotta sleep somehow, right?

FTA: Lyles had not been a model officer during her career, with records showing she had been disciplined 19 times.

She had been suspended twice for being in "preventable" crashes with her patrol car, and was also once disciplined for parking in a handicapped space.

I don't feel too sorry for her.

A few days prior to retirement. I doubt it will effect her pension, but I wonder if it will.

(NewsCore) - A Florida police officer who was just days from retirement was fired after being caught hauling two mattresses on her patrol car.

This is not the cop "buddy film" you think it's going to be.

What if they transported hookers on top of the mattresses?

When I was a teenager, I was walking home from school when I came across a dog that had been hit by a car or bus (he was lying in the bus lane). A friend from school and I flagged down a patrol car and asked the cops to take us and the dog to a vet. And they did. On duty, in their patrol car. I haven't thought about that in years but I guess it never really occurred to me that what they did was against regulation and they could have been disciplined for it.

That was a list of things they can't do while off duty.

No, but it would make a good premise for a Porn film. With Ron Jeremy as "The Commish".

In the town I grew up in a deer was hit by a car. The health inspectors caught a local fast food Chinese place butchering it.

But are they allowed to transport dogs and children on mattresses on top of the car?

Ah, right. I'm tired. Well, that makes no sense. If you're allowed to use the car off duty, short of driving the get away car in a robbery attempt, why wouldn't you be allowed to have animals or kids in the car? Mattress I understand, it's a hazard if not tied properly and flies off the car.

I've seen worse. At least they will be able to go on leave...with pay. AKA Vacation. rewardslink.info

Really? They fired her for this? I wonder if they used it as an excuse so that they could possibly deny having to pay part of or all of her pension? Seems like a dick move for such a minor offense.

I watched a cop put a dead squirrel in her car once. We had a lot of power outages in one area one summer that grew suspension. One day my dad happen to be outside when a squirrel hit a transformer with its tail while standing on the line, blowing a fuse. Totally fried the squirrel. A cop was sent out to investigate and was shown the squirrel that was freshly cooked. She was really not happy about it, but had to load it into trunk for evidence. We gave her a paperbag. She joked that she was going to put it on her boss' desk before telling him it was the suspect.

Well, I wondered how they could say she had been a good cop when she was disciplined 19 times and suspended twice. Why'd she get fired right before retirement? No to worry, she has the union.

wait a sec.

Hauling a mattress gets an immediate shiatcan, but 7 officers beating the living fark outta a guy having a diabetes seizure is perfectly acceptable departmental policy?

// don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I'm thinking that if you're this close to retirement, maybe you should cut back on your shenanigans.

Yeah, but she was holding the mattress down with her hand, so it's OK.

Did she do that to see the handicap people make handicap faces?

"It embarrasses not only the officer, but it embarrasses our department," Miami-Dade Police Commander Nancy Perez said.

Any if anyone knows abot embarrassments, its Nancy Perez:

False Arrest and Destruction of Evidence (new window)

Miami-Date might have a problem if their Public Information Officer is arresting journalists and then deleting the video off of the memory cards (and poorly, at that).

Because with a take-home car, even if you're off-duty, you're supposed to be ready to respond to an emergency call.

At least around here, if you are in a take-home patrol car, you are supposed to be armed, have you radio on, and be ready to respond to any emergency call. Having kids or pets in the car kinda impedes that.

Take home cars are more useful for saving money on commuting costs and wear & tear driving around town on routine errands (grocery shopping, paying bills, dr's appointments, ect.) It's not meant to be a replacement family car.

Additionally, if some nut decides today's the day to take a shot at my patrol car, it would be better if I wasn't placing my hypothetical children at risk of being shot because of the uniform I wear.

That lady was an idiot for doing what she did, but she must have been in shut down mode. 2 days from retirement, she might as well call in sick or request front desk duty; something to run out the clock safely.

Watched some idiot do that on I-95 going to Maryland. Hit a bridge over the Delaware, wind caught the mattress, and *snap*! Right over the side of the bridge and into the river. Instant waterbed.

It's also illegal for them to put squirrels down their pants for the purposes of gambling.

Wouldn't this be a great episode of CSI: Miami?

/There is a cop driving a kid to school!
//And I think a mattress on top of the car.
