FTFA: Olga Romero, a Southwest Airlines spokeswoman, said the matter is still under investigation. She declined to speculate how the box cutter ended up on the plane.

Well, Olga, your brother Ric would probably tell you that someone put it there.

Why did the crew member have a box cutter, and why was the passenger masturbating?

Did the passenger's masturbating cause the crew member to draw the box cutter? Or was the crew member with the box cutter enough to arouse the passenger and inspire him to masturbate until he came at the flight attendant?

Also, was the crew member with the box cutter in the overhead compartment watching the passenger masturbate, like some kind of airline-based ceiling cat?

Ask this guy over at Slashdot (new window) how a prohibited metal object might have ended up on the plane.

I dunno man, I'm imagining a dick shooting those breakoff blades and a stewardess screaming "Not the eyes! Not the eyes!" at this point.

I could read the article but this is pretty good.

How many box cutters do you figure it would take to hijack a plane these days?

/ im not ITG, but if you are going to hijack a plane with me on it, you better bring at LEAST six.... if im gonna die anyway....

this just proves once again, that the only way we will ever be safe flying is when passengers, after going through the tsa safety check point, are violently striped of their cloths, then quickly herded to the planes with cattle prods, where they are then packed in like cattle, standing room only

I'm not sure I'd report it. I bet that passenger is still locked in a dark room awaiting more questioning, and is now on every blacklist the government has.

I did not RTFA, but whoever found this box cutter needs to be executed. It seems like we've all forgotten 9/11 already. :( Lots of people are dismissive or nonchalant about the horrors of that day, but lots of people can afford to be. I can't afford that luxury, because I was there. I personally watched both towers fall with my own two eyes, unable to believe the carnage that I was seeing on my television screen in South Dakota. No, this person needs to be executed, and soon.

It makes sense to not use that plane if you're going to bother with all the security theater in the first place.

Was this passenger just trying to inform someone?

This wasn't an attack?

Should I read the article?

It's a metal cylinder with wings that flies through the air. But that's not important right now.

"'Anything that is not permitted on the TSA list should be of concern...'"

Not permitted on the TSA list? Like water bottles, shoes on your feet, getting yourself and your kids through an airport unmolested...? Every TSA "officer" at that location should be immediately fired. The TSA has done NOTHING to make anyone safer while traveling. All of the incidents that are reported of someone trying to bomb a plane or having a weapon past security was discovered by PASSENGERS not TSA morons.

You really should have read TFA. Like subby should have.

The fail tag only applies to the TSA, not the flight crew afterwards. This person handed the cutter which they had come across peaceably to the crew, at which point it's a reasonable precaution to re-screen and use a different aircraft. I honestly don't think anyone has forgotten 9-11.

Err, that said, 11 year olds had no opportunity to directly see the event that has so influenced our world and national culture. If you weren't a particularly astute 7 year old at the time, you might not realize the effect it had, for better or worse. Which means soon, there will be adults who did not in anyway experience 9/11.

What's the big deal, I didn't think a box cutter was unusual to use in a Hobby.

Well sure, TSA allows a few knives, box cutters, simulated bombs, known terrorists on planes. It'll happen.

But at least no minor children get on board without a groin grope and UFIA

6 seems like a bit much. I don't know how a person could effectively wield that many at once. I mean, more than one per hand and you're gonna start dropping them everywhere....unless...

No hazards were found in the first place... Maintenance probably left it there after replacing another sh*tstained seat cover.

Oh really? How many terrorists have made it past the TSA to hijack a plane? ZERO! Seems to me that the TSA is doing an excellent job of stopping the terrorists!

:-D

So, someone found a potential weapon in the passenger area, calmly reported it to the crew, and they delayed the flight just to make sure?

Sounds insane. This is bad news . . . . . . for Obama.

It's a utility knife, but since 9/11, everyone calls them box cutters. But that's not important right now.

Just give everyone on the flight a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with bean bag rounds.
