You may want to expand to the 5d and beyond view, Rush Subby. If anything, advertising on the EIB megaphone didn't seem to make things better to begin with.

It's continuing a trend that began 6 months ago so Rush is right. Right wing logic.

I was so impressed with Mr. Friend's statement. As soon as is feasibly possible I will be signing up for their service.

This is clearly due to Carbonite dropping advertising on Limbaugh's show and not indicative of a longer term trend...

Haven't you guys been paying attention to Rush? His advertisers need him more than he needs them, and they're just saying "f*ck you" to his millions of fans who all exclusively spend their money with whoever advertises on his show

/they're all doomed to failure now

If you don't buy things from his sponsors then you are violating his 1st amendment rights.

Anything that contradicts that privately held and completely manufactured opinion of reality, such as, well, reality, is obviously Satan trying to tempt them from their faith.

Once they are free of Carbonite, their eyesight will return in time. They're suffering from investment sickness.

So away from all that Limbaugh mishegas, does this company have to give George Lucas a penny every time they get a new customer or did they get around it by convincing his lawyers that they meant to evoke their customers' data exploding?

Yes because the stock price has everything to do with whether or not they are profitable.

True. However, their investor presentation (here (new window)) says they count on talk radio hosts for "early trust-building." And then they list a bunch. Rush is second, but there are a lot of other hosts equally inclined to saying stupid things (Glenn Beck, anyone?). Rush is a blowhard who overemphasizes his own importance, but it is a fair question to wonder if CARB will have to reposition their marketing if they plan to run away from their "early trust-builders" whenever one of them says something offensive or if they're going to face boycotts if they don't run away from them.

saintstryfe: Who the hell has the bandwidth to upload their hard drive to a online service of questionable security?

It uploads over an extended period of time. I put all my photos and home movies on Carbonite. I can replace everything else, but I don't have paper photos of anything anymore.

1. Local backup on external drive.
2. Backup on external drive locked in fire safe.
3. Carbonite

I ain't farking around. Pretty much every photo I have of my kids is digital.

They will wait until everything quiets down and go back.

There tons of negatives that you can say about Rush, but ratings aren't one of them.

/speaking of, I wonder what he pulled Monday

Hopefully Carbonite backed up their stock price Sunday

Don't worry, subby. The empire will compensate you if it dies.

2012-03-06 05:00:54 PM
If their stock price drops because they pulled their advertising it's only in recognition that by doing so they will not be able to reach a good part of their target audience and sales will decline or doing so offended their target audience and sales will decline. Either one would be too early to tell. But if Dittoheads sold their stock as a protest and the company is still profitable, others will come in and buy the stock.

You learn that data stored on devices you can't physically put your hands on isn't really yours.

Given the above, why would you not be anti-cloud? I want my data on my machine on my desk. The end. Cloud computing is just a tech industry advertising buzzword of the moment. In the end, it'll work OK for some users, but for a lot of people it won't be a particularly good answer, and perhaps for a question they didn't even ask.

That's because Tucker Carlson is a dickhead. The only reason he wears a bowtie is to kee the foreskin from crawling back up over his face.

This is the problem with online backup and cloud anything. You don't know what the business model is. Are they sufficiently capitalized? Will they be there 6 months from now? No, you don't know. Then why trust them with any of your data, when for the same cost you can invest in a decent backup program and an extra drive that backs up your whole system? You can even get two drives and have redundant copies to keep in a fire safe or in other locations. For the one time cost of a year of Carbonite.

Also, Carbonite is poorly written software that slows down your computer, particularly if you just leave it on automatic.

This is what I have to explain to my clients over and over and over.

Lets see... no P/E. EPS of -.99

It's a classic internet company. The time to invest was in the VC stage, sell three days after the IPO.

wildcardjack: Lets see... no P/E. EPS of -.99

And they never will have a profit now. They invested heavily in the radio talk show listening audience then threw them under the bus.

whether or not you believe they SHOULD have used this strategy is one thing, but when ALL of your advertising since inception is with one loyal audience, perhaps you shouldnt listen to the whining of people who arent in that audience when making fatal business decisions.
