Wyalt Derp: Meanwhile, on Bizarroworld:

The university is the one whose right to religious freedom is being impinged,

This is a valid point for discussion. I happen to think that : not the women being denied medication due to someone else's religious beliefs,
is not reasonable as collateral damage.

Rush Limbaugh is the victim of intimidation, not the woman he used his nationally-syndicated radio show to call a slut and a prostitute,
Responding to a personal attack and standing up for yourself is bullying,
Free speech means you are not allowed to counter-protest a protest you disagree with,
A free-market decision to stop giving someone your money is thuggish behaviour (racist and sexist to boot),
Anyone who doesn't identify as a Liberal is a Conservative,
and 75% of the population is an oppressed minority.

I don't get it. Don't any of these people have daughters that they, you know, love?

2012-03-06 08:27:22 AM
Rush mischaracterized the argument because it was about Fluke's friend who needed BC pills to prevent the growth of ovarian cysts.

Rush introduced the whole "slut" angle to take cheap shots at her, and over the course of 3 days, his attacks became more vulgar and vicious.

He attacked this woman for no reason at all.

Anybody who stands up for Rush over this is a piece of shiat, just like he is.

For those of you who didn't make it through the article, please see this well thought out and expertly written conspiracy theory from page 5 of Mr. Lord's rant. Occam's Razor indeed. Warning: may kill brain cells.

Now. Carbonite really deserves some special attention. David Friend is making his attack on Rush sound like he's one upset Dad with a couple of nice young daughters. And oh, yes, he wants a "more civilized public discourse." Is that all there is to Mr. Friend? Quite aside that he gives a pass to Sandra Fluke for her obnoxiously intolerant behavior when it comes to the free speech of others, is there anything else going on here?

Yes. Of course.

Take a look here at this link to Bloomberg/Business Week which profiles Mr. Friend and affirms him as "General Partner" of an investment group called "Orchid Partners" in Boston, Massachusetts. And Orchid Partners? Yes indeed, they are the venture capital firm behind... Carbonite. Where Mr. Friend is listed as "Co-Founder, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President."

So?

So when you cross check Mr. David Friend of Orchid Partners in Boston with the Federal Election Commission, one finds -- ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh shocker!......... that a Mr. David Friend of Orchid Partners in Boston has been a contributor to... ready? Here's the list of just where David Friend spends his political money:

MoveOn.org, America Coming Together and Democracy for America, all three listed here as George Soros funded groups, the latter set up by Howard Dean. Texans for Truth also drew Mr. Friend's support. This group, according to Wikipedia, was set up by MoveOn.org spin-off Drive Democracy.org in 2004. Why? To... wait for it... challenge then-President Bush's service in the Texas National Guard. The precise same stunt for which CBS fired Dan Rather after documents were discovered to have been forged. The Bush-Cheney campaign said of Texans for Truth that it was "a smear group launching baseless attacks on behalf of John Kerry's campaign that will be rejected by the American people." They were. But that didn't quench Mr. Friend's affection for either the smear campaign or supporting leftist candidates such as Howard Dean, and John Kerry.

And get a load of this. Take a look right here at Ed "Laura Ingraham is a slut" Schultz's site for his radio show. Who is listed as a Schultz sponsor? That's right: Carbonite. Like Rush Limbaugh, Ed Schultz apologized. The difference? If Rush uses the word "slut" to illustrate the absurdity of the left-wing Sandra Fluke's views -- David Friend is outraged. But when Ed Schultz refers in hostile fashion out of the blue to conservative and Catholic Laura Ingraham as a "slut" -- hey, no big deal for Carbonite.

In other words, to put it politely, Mr. Friend's woe-is-me I'm-withdrawing-my-company's sponsorship-from-Rush Limbaugh-because of-my-lovely-daughters is as close to certifiable BS as one can imagine. Mr. Friend, one can only suspect, placed Carbonite's ads with Rush Limbaugh because he knew it would make him money -- which he obviously then funneled to MoveOn and the rest. Meanwhile, he keeps advertising on the Ed Slut Show... sorry... Ed Schultz Show. His daughters? His daughters? What a deeply cynical man.

hubiestubert: Because calling his advertisers, and thus asking them essentially a question of marketability of the product that Rush creates to hawk their wares is EXACTLY what Stalin did. He was so entrenched in a free market system, that he petitioned companies who funded shows through advertising, to let said advertisers know that their products and services would be tainted in the public's mind for their association with someone that he found distasteful.

Dear sirs at IG Farben,

I am writing to you about your continued supply of Zyklon B insecticide to Herr Hitler.

Contrary to Mr. Hitler's assertions, Jews are not comparable to insects, and I find his views on this subject completely repellant; as you know, Soviet doctrine holds that anti-Semitism is unacceptable. Consequently, I am concerned that his use of your fine product will permanently taint the public's perception of it, associating it not with protecting one's home and garden from unwanted bugs, but instead with large-scale systemic genocide.

Please reconsider your support for the Fuhrer,
Respectfully,
Josef Stalin

Dear Mr. Leon Trotsky,

I am having my friend, Ramón Mercader, deliver an ice axe to you. I hope it brings you cool thoughts of Mother Russia in your new, warmer climate!

Yours always,
Joe

To the slower listeners it's not an issue because they're myopic enough that they can only focus on one thing during any given day; to the more intelligent, and therefore insidious, among them it's a strategy. Let him spew out his hateful, manipulative, loaded tripe on a daily basis until someone takes a serious offense to it, letting his non-audience in on how the broadcast has been sounding lately. That's enough to worry them because they realize if everyone heard what he was saying he would damage the GOP brand much more than he helps them. So he's "Just an entertainer" during those periods of exposure. After this settles down he'll go back to soothsaying the vile, reptile-brained excuses for humanity from his evil lair.

I'm not sure how you defend someone who first called a woman a slut and a prostitute. Then the next day he asks her to film herself having sex and post the video on the Internet so he and the moral crowd can watch the porno.

I think it was his request for her videos that killed Rush.

But you know Rush isn't running for POTUS. Don't ever think the Republicans are above doing anything to get their boy elected. Distraction is a traditional tool in American politics.

I particularly like the B-B-B-But SOROS! a couple pages in . The stories of Fluke being a 'genderist liberal plant' have been making the rounds on various forums and even my Facebook page, thought not one of them seems to be from a credible source. Sadly, these people just like being inflamed without research or fact. A couple days ago, a picture of Richard Reid (the underwear bomber) juxtaposed next to a US soldier popped up on my feed. The friends headline said 'Typical Obama', and lead to redstate.org Facebook page. It was a short blurt about how Obama is making sure that people like Reid are going to be getting better health care than our veterans. There were no links to any legitimate articles, so I had to dig. Finding very few recent mentions of it, it did however come up as a proposed hazard if republicans didn't agree with the budget. Nowhere did it say "Obama is going to cut the budget for our veterans'. To top it off the story was at least six months old. When I attempted to tell this person how wrong this article was, she went to derpcon 5. It's easy to whip a conservative into a froth, because they see anyone with a suit, a cross , a blog, and the ability to type SOROS!! as an authority, yet sadly will do no research. I had to drop one friend from my Facebook, who I am sure is hotlinking this article as we speak.

the following conversation took place during a house panel Thursday, March 1, 2012 between Health and Human Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Representative Tim Murphy (R-PA):

"The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for the cost of contraception," Sebelius said. She went on to say the estimated cost is "down not up."

During the subcommittee hearing, Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) said that contraception provided by insurance companies to people employed by religious organizations under the future form of the rule Sebelius described would not be free.

"Who pays for it? There's no such thing as a free service," Murphy asked.

Sebelius responded that that is not the case with insurance.

"The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for cost of contraception," Sebelius answered.

Murphy expressed surprise by the answer.

"So you are saying, by not having babies born, we are going to save money on health care?" Murphy asked.

Sebelius replied, "Providing contraception is a critical preventive health benefit for women and for their children."

Murphy again sought clarification.

"Not having babies born is a critical benefit. This is absolutely amazing to me. I yield back," he said.

So here Obama-appointed HHS secretary Sebelius is advancing an agenda of reducing the population to save money on the costs of health care now that government is in charge of health care, completely ignored by everyone.

Instead everyone is in an uproar because Rush Limbaugh called someone a slut.

Would you rather a child be born that has a family to support them for 18 years, or would you rather the Government pay for every since child that gets conceived? I would have expected you conservatives to endorse contraception and family planning, as it lowers the rates of abortion and a family's dependence on government assistance.

Fluke's Testimony Concentrated On The Danger Of Medical Conditions Untreated By Contraception. When Fluke testified before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, much of her testimony was about women who take birth control for medical reasons, including the story of a friend who was taking birth control to prevent cysts from growing on her ovaries and ultimately had to have an ovary removed when she could no longer afford birth control pills. [C-SPAN.org, 2/23/12]

Fluke did not mention sex in any way, shape, or form.

Rush lied about her argument and ran with it.

Yeah, I love this crackpot theory.

Apparently Carbonite CEO David Friend's master plan was to cut Rush Limbaugh a sponsorship paycheque for several years, secretly manipulating events behind the scenes to maneuver Congress and the Office of the President into coming into a head-long collision over reproductive rights, so he could position a young woman to testify about polycystic ovary syndrome, and then use his mind control rays to force Rush to repeatedly lie about the nature of her testimony while demanding she make porno for his personal entertainment. Then he could stop sponsoring him while chastising him by faking love for his own daughters.

Instead of just, you know, never sponsoring him in the first place.

The cost of contraception is much less than the cost of childbirth and ongoing care for the child so, from the insurance company's perspective, contraception is preferable to procreation. This is not a moral statement, it is an actuarial one.

Enjoy your heroes, ladies. I wish you knew how much of chumps your party's leaders are making of you. Fluke isn't a threat to you. Blindly following a addiction-deafened idiot and the scum he works for is much more of a threat to you than free birth control.

The amount of money insurance companies pay out to provide health care for potential mothers and unwanted pregnancies is more than the amount they will pay out to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

To me, this whole affair has done more to illustrate the harm that Rush Limbaugh does to political debate than just about anything anyone else has ever said about him. He completely and totally lied about Fluke's testimony, portraying it as Fluke wanting taxpayers to pay for her to have recreational sex. That's why the "slut" comment wasn't an offhanded insult: it was a necessary part of the narrative he was creating around this. Even the most cursory reading of Fluke's testimony would have shown that Limbaugh's depiction of it was not only incorrect, but completely false. Yet, everyone's Facebook page is littered with morons saying things like "I don't want my tax dollars to pay for someone who has so much sex she can't afford birth control!"

It confirms everything you already knew about Limbaugh fans: they don't want to make up their own minds, they don't want to have to go to the trouble of forming their own opinions. They just want Rush to tell them what they think.

It would be more hilarious if these people weren't in positions of power, and almost half the country didn't sympathize with them. It's 2012 and these are actually ideas people agree with. Now, you KNOW they didn't think it through, so it must be that people will just blindly follow anyone with a loud voice and microphone that feeds them a worldview they find comforting. Hmmm..

Minimisation and Exaggeration.

They're common immature/pathological defence mechanisms in personality disorders, some severe mood disorders, other psychotic disorders, autism spectrum disorders, as well as in children (in whom the behaviour is considered normal, assuming the child grows out of it). Basically anything prone to pathological lying, egocentrism, and lack of empathy.

They are used to cope and defend the ego when complete denial is either implausible, impossible, or simply inconvenient.

The WALL O' TEXT with the bolding and hectoring about whether or not getting pregnant is more expensive than not getting pregnant is the exaggeration. It's not a big deal, of course, and it's completely true.

The minimization is "Rush called somebody a slut", obviously.

You're acting like calling birth control "preventative health care" is some sort of terrifying quasi-eugenics concept, when in reality it's what people have called it for half a century. Birth control prevents a number of unpleasant diseases like ovarian cysts, it lowers the rate of abortion and most importantly, it allows for family planning, which has been proven to be extremely beneficial in, amongst other things, improving the health of millions of people.Birth control is preventative health care.

Denying it is stupid. Fear-mongering about people pointing out that it is preventative health care is unbelievably stupid.

Actually, what really hurt Rush was his suggestion that this whore should video-tape herself having sex for money then post those videos on the Internet so he and his fellow conservatives could watch her hump like a rabbit.

That was what really hurt him. And it was long after his comment about her being a paid whore.

Old enough to know better: Here you go Rush fans, you'll be needing this.

Sorry though, you'll have to shop your own caption.

May I suggest "Rush has a right to yell 'fire' in a theater if he wants to! It's freedom of speech! Leave Rush alone!"

Headso: Sandra Fluke and her statist cronies are up to.

Funny how suddenly she is the leader of something and has her own cronies. It would be pretty sweet to have cronies though, that's when you know you made it.

Cronies, thugs, gangsters, gotta love their vocabulary. It's like the Right-Wing is stuck in some kinda Scorsese Continuum where they are the Good Cop and are surrounded on all sides by the Liberal Mafia.

Gunther: Denying it is stupid. Fear-mongering about people pointing out that it is preventative health care is unbelievably stupid.

But... it's like Abortion.. of the Sperm! Why are we allowed to let the Sperm die like that? Isn't anyone thinking of the Sperm? Let's draft laws making it illegal to spill your Sperm outside of a fertile Vagina.

Dr. Mojo PhD: Jake Havechek: Instead everyone is in an uproar because Rush Limbaugh called someone a slut.

He did call someone a slut for no damn reason.

Do you have rocks in your head? Are you farking retarded?

When you do you bet a Dominican man in his mid-twenties comes forward and describes in detail Rush Limbaugh's naughty bits? It's going to be one nasty civil lawsuit.

AmorousRedDragon: heinekenftw: It's hilarious because contraception, family planning, safe-sex education are all far more fiscally conservative than simply claiming that sex and birth control are "shameful" and should be outright banned.

Hmmm..

True.

I suppose "downright frightening" is another phrase I could have used in place of "hilarious." But then I was referring to the irony that they claim to stand on a platform of fiscal conservatism yet are blind to how access to birth control and proper sexual education would save costs.

apoptotic: Even if that was remotely true (it's not), you do know there's a difference between 1) ensuring contraception is available to people who want it and 2) making them use it, right?

It's a slippery slope, man, like gay marriage. Laugh now, but see how you feel when you're forced into a shotgun same-sex wedding. It will be like affirmative action. There will be quotas to fill.

Seems like birth control and sex ed. are two of the many things that they refuse to learn about.

Well, let's be fair, she was a leader... of a school chapter of a reproductive rights organization for law students.

Suddenly, "Being active in school organizations and politically engaged" is "left-wing ringleader and valid target for any and all political smears."

In what Limbaugh said about this, and what his fans are parroting, it seems like they're implying that you have to take a birth control pill every time you have sex. Hence the "Fluke has so much sex she can't afford birth control" line.

So, yeah, they don't know shiat.

Ok, "shotgun same-sex wedding" made me laugh. I bet you could totally get the "MOAR contraception for all the sex she's having" crowd to start using that phrase.
