Wth is this?

A daily mail article that isn't about teacher student sex or some other morally depraved news story designed to beget moral outrage from a demographic of readers convinced the world was a better place back in their day?

It's amazing how iconoclastic the design for the original Gameboy is.

Fixed. Confound this Kindle Fire and its over zealous auto-correct.

It's just stupid interesting informative filler.

Also, Action Man looks permanently surprised.

Raise your hand if every time you find an Etch A Sketch you have to laboriously go back and forth until the inside is completely revealed.

The only I could ever draw properly on an etch-a-sketch was stairs.

I'm still kinda impressed by slinkies.

Errrr....the reason why the Monopoly board doesn't feature the "Original" London street names is because it was developed by an American, based on locations in Atlantic City, NJ.

Then again, TFA is from the Daily Mail, so I don't imagine facts concern them all that much.

In an age of so much wealth disparity it's actually amazing to me more people who played Monopoly haven't figured out what the point to the game is.

...I love it when they don't do their homework and assume things like the standard UK version of Monopoly is the only standard version.

Are revealed? Patents are public record. You could have pulled them up whenever you wanted.

Ahhh...I used to love Legos. Now as an adult I get paid to design/build machines from 80/20.

I would find it interesting to own an international copy of monopoly.

Soup_In_A_Basket: the reason why the Monopoly board doesn't feature the "Original" London street names is because it was developed by an American, based on locations in Atlantic City, NJ.

Actually it was the English version of the game, which in the US was called The Landlord's game, that had the London streets. And in the US it had no street names originally, until they were added in a later release and some were the names of streets in Chicago. The Landlord's Game, was about acquiring property and then, in the second round, seeing what a mess it is when someone has a ton of it and everyone else is screwed as far as paying rents and such. Though in the later release the rules did allow just the first round of the game. Also, the story everyone knows about how Monopoly was created? It's bullshiat. The man that to this day Parker Brothers claims invented the game, Charles Darrow, neither came up with the Altantic City street names, nor the particular rules. All he did was manage to get Parker Brothers to make it. After the patent holder on The Landlord's Game, Lizzie Maggie, had been turned down by Parker Brothers some years earlier. Parker Brothers after agreeing to make Darrow's version of the game, bought Maggie's patent for $500. Oh and there was another game, The Fascinating Game of Finance which introduced a few things, like one railroad per side of the board, that would later show up in Monopoly. Despite basically ripping off Finance, Parker Brothers tried to sue the maker for infringement. Then they also bought up the copyrights to other variants of the game. All so Parker Brothers could claim was their idea.

In short, Monopoly is one of the most egregious cases of ripping off the work of others in American history.

Anyone remember Dark Tower by Milton Bradley? I wanted one so bad in 1981 but it was out of my price range. I finally got one a few years ago and play it with my kids all the time.

It was another rip off. Some dudes took the idea for what they called Triumph to MB. MB rejected it and then released Dark Tower and got nailed with a lawsuit. They run about $200 to $800 on ebay.

Ah, the beauty of mechanical drawing, done by hand instead of letting CAD software do the work... It's really a dying art form and I'm sad to see it go.

We live in a country where the biggest health problem facing the poor is from over-eating. It's kind of a different world than the 1930s.

You've actually completed a full game?

In my familly it ends when my sister was crying and my mother not wanting to play anymore and my dad being a total dick.

We never really understood the real point of the game. We never completed a full game.

Wait, that's how an etch-a-sketch works? No! The magic is gone!
