Can it, texastag - it's still a losing proposition.

2012-03-05 06:27:56 PM
There was a big run on guns before his inauguration, too. The right sure does a good job stirring people up about what Obama *might* do even though he's shown no inclination to do the sorts of things they're worried about.

You know it's got to be the gun manufacturers starting these rumors to boost sales

I go to at least one gun show a year, and the amount of ignorant simple minded redneck anti-Obama paraphernalia has shown no signs of sagging.

if i were to believe my grandfather when fartbongo was first elected no one would have any guns today.

When are these people going to wake up and realize that gun and ammo makers are exploiting their fear of teh blacks to make money?

I mean, how many times does this "rumor' have to be spread before people think "huh...it wasn't right all those other times so it's probably not right this time"?

Just like he did in 2008, right?

I'm fairly convinced the NRA is pumping out these lies under heavy funding and pressure from the gunmakers. They're probably hurting as bad as anyone else, or would have been. They are happy to profit from the stupidity of their supporters.

Plus, chances are that they wanted to buy a bunch of guns anyway. Perhaps they couldn't justify the cost though. But now (and the last few times this rumor has gotten people stirred up) they can point to SCARY OBAMA and say "Honey, we *have* to buy those guns, and buy them now! I know it'll run our credit card up to its limit, but when the socialist military comes down on us we have to protect what's ours!"

Either them or the sellers themselves; I noticed prices at my local gun shop have been steadily climbing the closer we get to the election. I've been in the market for a new pistol, but I don't know whether to buy now before prices go up any more, or wait until a few months after the election and hope that people have settled down a bit.

March/April 2013, at best. They won't fall in price until then.

Well, the "never seen before" part is technically accurate.

Not the manufacturers, the distributors. The manufacturers are pretty much always operating at capacity no matter what happens in the economy, their product happens to be not only a tool, but a valid currency with an ability to substain its value over the course of time. Americans love their guns, always have and always will, the manufacturers know that the majority of the uptick in sales during election years is going to be secondary market anyway.

Now, the distributors, they're the ones that have a rooted interest in driving up sales, along with the retailers. Bass Pro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, as well as the regional distributors are the ones that have the most to gain by stoking the fire and getting people to purchase guns they normally wouldn't out of fear.

Remington, S&W, Springfield Armory, Mossberg, these guys aren't the ones that are seeing the gain from this, their supply is constant and is always snapped up as soon as it's ready. You're blaming the wrong guys, Walmart has more stake in getting the NRA to do shiat like this than any of them do.

GAT_00: iq_in_binary: a valid currency

CURRENCIES DO NOT WORK LIKE THAT

I play poker with ammo all the time. Any rifle, pistol, or firearm accessory in my safe is easily tradeable and sellable.

Just because it's not a fiat or commodity backed currency like bank notes or the US Dollar, does not make it any less useful as part of a barter currency or value holder.

Rifles were used as currency when trading with American Natives back in the 16th, 17th, and 18th Centuries.

VALID CURRENCY.

2012-03-05 08:38:24 PM
Even if he's re-elected and the Democrats capture House majorities they still won't have the votes for any onerous legislation (AWB 2.0, National handgun registration, etc.). Outside of a few urban enclaves in the Northeast and California, there just isn't the obsession with punitive gun bans. Not to mention, the Brady Campaign is running on fumes and the courts are siding with gun owners more and more.

/the State Department even reversed course and will allow importation of 80,000 surplus M1 Garands from Korea this year
//those bastards still won't let in the M1 Carbines.... the 600,000 M1 Carbines....

That is bartering. Not a currency.

Bucky Katt: Is it too late to buy stock in Colt?

They're privately owned. The only gun companies on the stock exchange are S&W and Ruger.

Ambivalence: I mean, how many times does this "rumor' have to be spread before people think "huh...it wasn't right all those other times so it's probably not right this time"?

It's not a "rumor" it's in campaign literature, the Democratic Party platform, and has been mentioned on video by Obama and Eric Holder after Obama took office. They want another assault weapons ban. That's a gun ban, and a ban that affects some of the most popular items out there.

Sure, it's not a total ban, but to say that somebody calling for another AWB isn't a danger to gun rights is just as silly as saying that somebody that only wants to ban some abortions isn't a danger to women's rights.

2012-03-05 09:30:35 PM
So he'll sign even more pro gun rights legislation?

I feel bad because I picked up a target pistol a few weeks ago and thus indirectly contributed to this nonsense.

Raharu: Can anyone enlighten me to how The President has been in any way a danger to gun ownership besides allowing them in national parks?

He has voted for stricter gun control on several occasions during his time as an Illinois politician, and he in theory assents to the Democratic party platform, which does still technically include gun control kinda.

But yeah, from a practical perspective, anyone that thinks he actually cares enough to consider this one of the issues worth spending political capital on is deluded, signing the national park thing without objection is literally the only second-amendment-related thing he's done as President. Bigger terrorists to fry, y'know

JRoo: Gun addicts are no different than drug addicts. Prove me wrong.

OK, I'll bite. What's a gun addict supposed to be? Like an extremely specific and expensive episode of hoarders or something? Do they sleep on a pile of .30-0s? Eat their cereal with half a polymer handle instead of a spoon?

By repeatedly calling for an assault weapons ban before, during, and after the last election.

FTA: Gun sales are booming across Texas, and some buyers say their growing belief that President Barack Obama's re-election is inevitable is fueling their race to bear more arms.

You all realize this a repeat after President Obama won in 2008. Gun nuts went crazy buying guns because he and the Democrats were going to outlaw gun ownership as soon as he was inaugurated in Jan 09.

/Still hasn't happened, dumbasses.

Dude, there are people who still believe the Rapture is coming every time some loon predicts it. There are a lot of gullible idiots on this planet. It's one reason religion still exists.

The sad truth is that almost everyone will just hand them over when the authorities come knocking.
