stoli n coke: Pretty much. For Rush, money hasn't mattered for decades. But he needs the fix of being considered important. He needs powerful people sucking up to him.

He's addicted to being famous. Take that away from him, and he's done for.

a man like limbaugh's got a great big hole right down the middle of him. he can never lie enough, influence enough, or inflict enough pain to fill it.

Following the nationwide uproar over Rush Limbaugh's controversial comments

EngineerAU: hubiestubert:
He's not a photogenic fella. He doesn't have credentials to shift to the pundit for hire/expert for hire class. He is in his niche, but that niche is precarious--more so than a lot of others, because he isn't showing up on TV, he's not doing circuits, and he has nothing really to hawk.

I don't know about that... he could team up with Karen Handle for a wacky crime fighting duo comedy on Fox. They could broadcast it on Friday evenings and it would get terrible ratings. As we all know, Fox only cancels good shows so it would be on forever.

The problem being that Rush would want a co-star to balance him. Maybe a young man to get the younger girl viewers. Someone maybe even ethnic--you know to balance the charges that he's racist. Maybe even someone that's not even American.

I can see him volunteering to go on casting calls through the Caribbean...

Maybe I'm just narrow-minded, but I could never understand--I mean, truly understand and emphathize--with Limbaugh listeners. What about that show could possibly be attractive? It isn't edifying in the least, even for a conservative. I have never thought to myself during a Limbaugh show, "Wow, you know, I'm really learning something here." The rhetoric is completely transparent, so I can't really get fooled into the fake outrage at every damn thing. The assumption that someone would buy any second of the constant stream of constant BS is just condescending. To top it all off, there are 2 minutes of actual talking and then an 18-minute break for commercials, so it is annoying as shiat to listen to.

Obviously I'm missing something because Rush has millions of dollars and I don't. But fark if I farking understand that shiat.

Anyway, good on that radio station. They did a responsible thing that is probably going to cost them money, at least in the short-run.

Morale of Rush's story? Don't piss off your sponsors. I was waiting for this to happen. This is the main way to get idiots like Rush to shut up is go after the sponsors and radio stations that carry his program.

He could have scored some major points if he would have physically went to the woman he insulted and begged on his hands and knees for an apology rather than have on forcibly written on his web site.

Even if he gave it all up, and retired tomorrow, I couldn't get too excited. They'd find some other obnoxious jackass to take his place. More that a few Fark trolls could probably do the job. The real problem is the streak of hatefulness and ignorance that he represents, and that seems to be a permanent part of the character of this country.

2012-03-06 12:49:15 AM
He's free to say what he wants. No one is under any obligation to listen, and no one is obligated to give him a platform.

If anyone has a problem with this, they severely misinterpret the first amendment. And the free market, for that matter.

Weaver95: plus his show is stale and rather dated. he's not drawing in new audiences like he used to back in the day. And like I said - his apology pissed off a faction of his rank and file and THOSE people don't ever forget an insult.

I used to listen to his show in the 90's for fun and to annoy people at work. I tuned in a couple of years ago while driving and it was the exact same show. Same intro, same rants, same lame Mark Levin "parodies". It was like we were still in the Clinton years.

Three Crooked Squirrels: I'm not a daily listener, but I probably tune in for 30 minutes or so per week when I am in the car to see what has him all riled up. The Rush ditto-heads are always talking about how we were founded on Christian beliefs, trying to inject Christian values into public debate. And Rush seems to be on that side too. But I have never once heard him say something along the lines of "I was in Church this Sunday and . . ." Nor have I ever heard him mention what denomination he belongs to. I have never heard him give a personal statement about his religion or his Church. Sure, he seems to identify as a Christian, but does he even go to Church? Or has he just exploited the die-hard Christians for gain, much like the fiscal conservatives in the GOP have done?

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard him talking about actually going to Church.

It doesn't matter if they go to church. His listeners are so full of hate for the very people Christ hung out with (you know, sluts and prostitutes and tax collectors) that they can't even remotely be considered Christians.

Ok. And is it your position that those liberal talkers have the political weight in the Democratic party that Rush Limbaugh has in the Republican party? Are you saying that Joy Behar and Gawker and David Letterman are setting the agenda for the Democratic party? Do you really believe Democratic politicians live in fear of the consequences of a negative comment from Garry Trudeau? I seem to recall David Letterman and Ed Schultz getting days on the beach for their comments. Unlike Limbaugh, they also offered sincere and real apologies for their comments. Your 'but... but... but... LIBERALS!' retort holds no water.

I, for one, agree, Notabunny. David Frum wrote about this, and, RINO name-calling aside, he identifies as a conservative.

Plus, Schultz was actually suspended by his bosses. You know, because they were offended by how he represented their corporation. Rush won't be suspended. Clear Channel must not be embarrassed--somehow his comments are representative of their values.

The Govt. isn't shutting him down you dumb fark, or pulling his sponsors.

His sponsors are pulling out because they don't want to support a guy who calls a woman who wants hers and other women's insurance plans to cover birth control for not only birth control but other medical reasons, sluts and whores.
(fun fact it saves them a fortune in the short, medium and long run)
