jayhawk88: Forgot_my_password_again: If you can come up with a legal, constitutional reason for banning gay marriage, go for it.

Marriage is like driving, hunting or fishing in that it is a licensed and regulated activity by the state, not a right (And also far less enjoyable than the other three state regulated activities mentioned) . Ideally government should not be involved in the marriage biz but since things like taxes, survivor benefits etc are tied to maritial status the government as a vested interest in defining marriage.

If we were to reform these things and make them marraige neutral then it would not really matter if two men or 20 people and goat wanted to call themselves married. Of course to make it really work it also means gettng government out of other "family" related things. As long as you accept government money you end up accepting government controls.

I've assumed every blind item since the mid-90s or so has been about Gretchen Mol or her husband.

I took my family to see The Lorax this weekend. They played the trailer for his derpfest film "Monumental" before the film. It makes that Sarah Palin film from last year look like farking Citizen Kane.

I laughed so hard when other people in the audience booed and laughed at Kirk Cameron's smug, pompous narration: "Please join me as I explore our history looking for our TRUE National Treasure."

Can someone with some powerful photoshop skills add the word "DOUCHE" to the bottom of his poster?

farm8.staticflickr.com

Kirk Cameron, I spoke with The Lord this morning. I saw a bright, peaceful glowing light and He said: "Verily I say unto thee that Kirk Cameron is not worthy of untying Julie McCullough's bikini-top. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a pompous, moronic, self-rightous Jesus-freaking douche with no self-awareness like Kirk Cameron to get into heaven. And seriously, who the fark gets a couple of foot longs from Subway in a crappy conference room for their birthday party anyway?"

Fark you Kirk Cameron.

He didn't flip out on his computer, he flipped out on his monitor!!!

And apparently the troubles he's dealing with are not knowing how computers or the internet work.

Supreme Court rulings have found, again and again, that marriage is a fundamental right. Loving v. Virginia: Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival. So you can have a different legal opinion if you form your own country, I guess.

OK.

I've known this guy since second grade. He was a great dude. Good at everything, funny, good natured.... all that stuff. He'd been married going on 12 years with two kids. His wife was always kind of biatchy and treated him like shiat, but he put up with it so I did, too. He liked being a family man and was willing to put up with a lot of shiat in order to do it. That is how he self identified.

One night we (another old friend had joined us) are meeting at a bar and he busts out with the "she wants a divorce" story, which sucks to be sure, and then lays out his plan to save his marriage. It was essentially the plan from that farking Kirk Cameron movie where he plays the firefighter who decides he is going to "unconditionally love" his wife no matter how much of a farking coont she is. That was his plan. That, and Jesus was going to come down and personally open up his wife's eyes and save the day. The last time he was in a church was probably his wedding.

We called it "the doormat plan" because that's essentially what it was. Regardless of what stupid shiat she did, he was just going to smile and and say "yes dear" and then go pray about it. That, and anti-depressants, apparently. He carried the bible and the book that movie was based on ("The Love Dare", by some other asshole) around with him for close to three years, sure that this was the best way to save his marriage. Anyway, after that three year period where he simply bowed his head and complied with all her crazy shiat, she tells him she's still leaving.

So he shot her, and then shot himself. Needless to say, no one saw that coming. Dude didn't even own a gun and the number of fights he'd ever been in his whole life was 1, and that was with me in ninth grade.

Since I can't kick Eli Lilly's ass (corporate personhood not withstanding) over the anti-depressants that cure you so good you kill yourself, I'm holding Cameron responsible for putting that ridiculous bullshiat out there and acting like it means something. And when I see my friend again, I'm kicking his ass, too, for putting the rest of us through this stupid shiat.

Rent Party: titwrench: Rent Party: thamike: Rent Party: Kirk Cameron killed a close personal friend of mine, so if i ever run into him, I'm kicking his ass.

In 1990?

No, just this last summer.

You can't post this without explanation. Come on spill it.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Sadly that is the kind of guilt driven misery I will always associate with religion.
