For billionaires, the Cock brothers seem to whine a lot. Maybe they should buy the company that makes Prep-H.

I guess it was "just business" all the time up til now.

Maybe they have a $1 bet whether they could get a black man elected president and see him fall into disgrace 4 years later.

We own no gasoline stations and the part of our business you allude to, oil and gas refining, actually lowers the price of gasoline by increasing supply.

That's cute. How precious of a snowflake this guy must be. I mean, that would actually be true if, in fact, NYMEX didn't set the price and they've been ignoring supply for quite some time.

That was a very interesting post. I wasn't sure exactly what parts of the letters I was supposed to be paying extra attention to, until I realized the blogger was helpful enough to point things out. Thanks, Mr. Bloggerman.

fta: ...every American has the right to take part in the public discourse.

Taking part in the public discourse to the Koch brothers means bankrolling GOP candidates for the purpose of getting them on energy committees where they will vote the way Koch tells them to in order to make the Koch's core businesses wealthier. It means diverting millions towards pseudo-scientific research in order to muddy the water of the AGW debate and give their meat puppets in Congress and the Senate a weak leg to stand on in their arguments. It means astro-turfing low-info tea partiers types into rabid recipients/purveyors of misinformation designed to make them vote against their own economic self interests.

Not "every American" can take that kind of part in the public discourse and those that do need to be pointed out and taken notice of. These neo-Bircher are exerting massive and undue influence in order to enrich themselves at everyone else's expense and more people need to see them for who they are. Good on the admin for firing back as quickly as they did.

TY for link. So the Kochs are two board members shy of controlling Cato after filling the place with their lackeys even though they've only ponied up 8% of the total monies the Institute has collected over the years? Wow, that's farked up.

Very. Also, why the hell would the Kochs want control of Cato? It's not like very many people really pay attention to much of what comes out of Cato. A lot of people only know Cato exists exists because P.J. O'Rourke is a member.

Because the knee-jerk reaction by most Fark LibrulsTM would be to dismiss the source or baitch about being linked to a Koch website. KOS on the other hand, they'll eat up like it's fresh biscuits and gravy.

The Rush apology must have dissipated more than expected if they're going back to rolling out the old Koch Bogey man again.

The Koch vs. Cato thing is hilarious though, and in this case, both sides really are bad. Lulz!

I was watching a show on the History Channel or some such network and saw someone spend over 2 million for the only known picture of William Bonnie (Billy the Kid) and it was expected to go for around 350K. The buyer was one of the Koch brothers. No, he is one that sold out to the other two who is only worth 4 billion instead of 35 billion. The point is, that these guy have so much money that it means nothing to them but power at this point. They are above the law.

I wonder if maybe once they have control of Cato they plan to take over the Libertarian party and leave the Republican banner to the evangelicals?

Because the alternative would be that two newsworthy things happened on the same weekend, and that would just be silly.

Take it from me, as a Canadian: yes. Whenever Her Majesty comes to town, and she often does, in her gilded chariot, we must line up the children to kiss her toes, and we adults must bestow upon the Royal Person rose petals and gusts from our waviest fronds. It's why we grow tropical ferns and trees in all of our indoor malls; so we have fronds year-round to wave at Her Highness.

I believe "joking" would be the operative term. I doubt anybody thinks the Koch Bros. care about anything as mundane as "race", other than as a tool to manipulate ignorant people into voting against their own interests.
"Race" can still be a powerful construct in American culture - but guys like the Kochs know it's only a construct. To a good mass-manipulator, EVERYTHING is a construct.

Apparently, this memo was written on Opposite Day.

Cato supports Republicans, they just hide their shame by claiming to be libertarian

Kato still has some manner of a good reputation with a lot of people. Why, I have no idea. They're not birther level of rightwing nutness but they've been blatantly liars/bullshiatters for a long while now.

Meh, it's a press release by the company in question, I don't think it's particularly a big deal that it takes a stance favoring said company. It might be shady if, say, it was put up by a front company or something, but it's the company directly stating its position without pretending to be someone else, and I'm fine with that.
