Deicide = meh

Can't wait for the release of Sigh's new album "In Somniphobia" this week. The few tracks I've heard (new window on all) have been a total mindf*ck. Scenes from Hell was great...this one looks to be even better.

Also digging on Seed (new window).

There's a band whose best days are behind them.

On the other hand, while I was replacing a few old worn copies of some early Sadus and Destruction albums I needed to replace (I've had my copy of Illusions since 1991 for example and I still listen to it regularly) earlier this week, I picked up the new Asphyx cd.

It's total balls out old school brutal death metal with a few nice doom-tinged death (something they've always done well). Here's a few tracks I found on YT

LinkOf Days When Blades Turned Blunt(new window)

Minefield (new window) - one of a handful of doom influenced changeups.

Also, depending on which version you get (cd or digipak), there's a cover of os Abysmi Vel Daath Asphyx from Celtic Frost's final album

Basically, if you're a fan of old school brutal death metal, you want this album.

Went to see Deicide Thursday night. There were only like 100 people there total. biatches played a short set and bolted. They hung around with the crowd a little before and after though. Played the new songs. Didn't play enough old songs, but it was still well worth the $20.

If you like Symphonic/Atmospheric black metal, there's a new Lunar Aurora album out and it kicks ass.

Besides that, I guess I'll do the same thing as I did last week and choose ten albums at random.
Horn - Die Kraft Der Szenarien
Envy - Recitation (Not metal, Japanese screamo. Really good.)
Trou Noir - Echoes in Black Holes
Ceremonial Castings - Salem 1692
Steelwing - Zone of Alienation
Galdr - S/T
Solstafir - Kold
Cryptic Slaughter - Money Talks
Carnage - Dark Recollections
Baphomet - The Dead Shall Inherit

That was at Jaxx right? I thought of going but I've already seen them a dozen times and figured they're past their prime. My friend told me yesterday that Behemoth, Watain, and The Devil's Blood are coming to Baltimore, but not for a couple months. Should be a great show.

Speaking of Celtic Frost:

Good news - someone just put up the full Hammersmith Odeon show on YT.

Bad news - recorded during the Cold Lake tour

Still that's why YT has a seek bar -

Here's the link (new window) if you have an hour to kill (half of the setlist is classic material so it's not a complete waste of time)

He'd say "I forgive you", because that'd be his job schlubby.

You'd think Yahweh could get his kid a better gig than that, but I guess He doesn't make any exceptions to His "Be a dick" policy.

That's actually kinda fun. Not that I necessarily liked any of it, but it's still an enjoyable way to blow an hour. Thanks.

/CSB: A band I was in played with Cryptic Slaughter (and the Beer Nuts, and Beowulf, and Neighborhood Watch, &tc, &tc.) at a bunch of parties in Venice in like 1986. Sketchy, but fun.

Yup. Well, I think they're trying to change the name to Empire. shrug.

Past their prime, I guess. I still think that Stench of Redemption is their best album even though it's not the original lineup. Maybe that was their peak and their going downhill. Going to Baltimore for shows is a pain in the ass for me. Even on the weekend. I'm getting old.

Gratch: Deicide = meh

Deicide is good background music that you don't really need to pay attention to, but it's not something I'd listen to on its lonesome.

Funny, one of my friends (who is into heavily flowery melodic metal) feels the same way about Slayer, a band that I can just kick back and listen to any of their albums (except for the punk album and Diabolus in Musica).

There's one Deicide song that I like, though, if only for the subject matter.

Because I watched Evil Dead II way too many times (new window, contains most of the good gory scenes from the movie, including the "Who's laughing now?" scene 20sec in)
