The guest relied heavily on cue cards for an SNL appearance?!?! How offensive to the high art that is SNL!

the cue card thing happens all the time. they rewrite sketches up until dress, i believe. walken was always really obvious when reading cue cards, too. and the director did her no favors with the camera angles, which made the looking-past-the-person-you're-supposed-to-be-talking-to-so-you-can-se e-the-cue-card thing very obvious.

that being said, she did seem pretty stiff. and she's been on before and been much, much better. my guess is, she kept thinking ahead to the cast party.

In her defense, the sketches were morbidly unfunny.

In a perfect world, articles made up entirely of other people's tweets would earn the author four hours of really weird diarrhea.

I did like the "Wives of Disney" sketch.

// She wasn't that bad-- It's not her fault that SNL's writing is so weak.

John Belushi might not have been as funny and talented if not fueled by various chemical substances. Maybe that applies here.

it's hot and cold. it always has been, even in the "golden era" of [insert 4-year period when you were in your early twenties here].

the maya rudolph show a couple of weeks ago was funnier than hell.

they must have also had to dump a couple of sketches because they re-ran at least two pre-taped "ad" sketches from previous episodes.

/actually watched SNL in real time for the first time in years last night

I think it's actually been pretty funny this season, but last night was particularly bad.

Just like Trebek! She thinks she's pretty schmart, eh? She wouldn't know it if she wasn't reading off a goddamned card!

I didn't realize the show ran that long, haven't watched it in years.

2012-03-04 12:20:18 PM
Which means it was one of the better SNL shows of the season?

2012-03-04 12:23:01 PM
Even when she wore a brunette or red wig, I could tell even from my computer monitor that the magic had gone; too much time and damage has happened that she can never go back to the woman she was even a few years ago. The Playboy pics are like the airbrushed Arc d'Triomphe of her hotness.

2012-03-04 12:24:44 PM
And unfortunately for Lindsay Lohan, celebrities and armchair critics alike were lining up to slate her Saturday Night Live appearance on Twitter.

Fox Boogie
Andy Borowitz
Cliff Skighwalker
etc...

Who?

Yup, it also featured several guest appearances (Timberlake, Poehler) so the writing was probably a lot tighter.

I still find some laughs

I have never been a fan of SNL, but because of my new working hours for the past few months I drink early and always pass out during the hockey game and happen to wake up right about the time SNL starts so I have been watching it lately and it hasn't been that bad, not as bad as it was during the past decade or so, the tall skinny guy with the Jack Nicholson(sp) type eyebrows is great whatever he is doing. I thought Lindsay Lohan was alright, no worse than any other host I have seen lately, and the show was by far better than any network sit-coms they got going. So, disastrous, I don't think so.

I don't watch the show, so I can't comment on how bad other hosts were, but I did watch some of last night's show. She wasn't very good, but I just found the whole show so unfunny that I didn't really notice, if that makes any sense.

The Disney wives thing was OK though.

Watching Lindsay on SNL is like watching those old clips of a bloated, disinterested Elvis meandering his way through tired old material in 1977.

So as this was her first paid [sober] role in nine years, does it mean we can finally update her resume from 'Mean Girls actress' to 'SNL Flop'?

Jack White, on the other hand, kicked ass.

She wasn't even that good in "Machete" and for a grade b movie that's something to pull off to be so bad.

I wish Robert Downey Jr would have mercy on Lindsay and help her get herself together.

The only time I can be bothered to watch SNL is when John Malkovich shows up to be John Malkovich. What a strange, strange, funny man.

It's retarded because they are quoting a handful of people when there are hundreds of millions of Twitter users.

That being said, SNL is really difficult to watch in general.

Wardrobe seemed to be trying to tell her she looks better with dark hair. I just wish she'd stop injecting shiat in her face and lips. If I could, I'd take her to a Chanel boutique and lecture her on the value of a celebrity dollar.

Overpriced fancy handbag: yes
Repeated duckface injections: no

She looked like she had 20lbs of plastic added to her face.

/i expected lorne to come out and start the monologue, apologizing that linday was in a disasterous car wreck coming to the building that night, only to have her limp in with shredded clothing, blood everywhere, etc.
//that'd be better than the crap they cram into the monologue, weekend news, digital short CRAP, etc.
///kristen wiig and nasim in revealing clothes for 1.5 hours would be good too...

She looked like some old has-been with a ton of plastic surgery and she couldn't deliver a single line decently. It was just sad really. They didn't even use her cleavage for comedic effect like last time.

I think she is officially at the "tits or get the fark out" phase of her "career".

Most of it wasn't that great, but Bill Hader was hilarious in the cold open as Shep Smith and his Carville was fun to see again in Weekend Update. He's probably the best thing about the show right now, especially when he does Stefon.

Yeah, I almost posted that factoid myself, but then I got lazy. He's still amazing to watch. Like Three Musketeers? He was the only one other than Tim Curry who bothered to act.

/oh wait that was two different films...

Hell, when she did Playboy and showed her tits, there are a lot of us who are still saying GTFO.

2012-03-04 02:14:17 PM
I thought she was like Anna Faris, charming but surprisingly unskilled. The writing was weak this week. Maya Rudolph probably got the best stuff that was in the hopper. One interesting thing was the very light touch she had when she was supposed to roughhouse one of the juvis in the scared straight skit. It didn't jibe with her brawling image.

2012-03-04 02:23:01 PM
I forgot about the street dancer skit. I'd like to Lohan and Emma Stone compete to see who could wear that outfit better. The winner would be me.

I just watched it and she wasn't any worse than any other host. Especially when reading the cue cards, which everyone does.

Some lamers were just waiting to snark no matter what she did, that's the internets. They're just disappointed she showed up on time and stayed for the whole show.

Actually, she's at the pron actress stage now. They don't have to deliver more than a few words and plastic surgery is considered a plus....

She wasn't great, but she wasn't terrible. Average, and like someone else said, the sketches were mostly meh and I don't think that's her fault. The best parts of the episode:
Real Housewives of Disney
the end of Scared Straight sketch when Sudekis busted the table and everyone cracked up
Bill Hader's Carville impression (holy shiat there were some funny lines in that bit, "king of the snakes", "now it doesn't matter why but i'm friends with some alligators")

Also Lindsay looked great with the red hair in the butt-dialing sketch. Looked more like her old self. I can't hate on her, I just kinda hope she pulls her life back together.

This poor girl. It really breaks my heart. Our collective snark and shadenfreud just feeds the ugly monster. I want to see her come out of what's been done to her by shiatty parents, bad management, and the media vultures. And of course I wonder why I'm being manipulated by the media to care about a puppet I've never met and and what they hope to accomplish by engendering these feelings in a subset of the population. It's all just some weird Ballardian case study for its own sake. How are things on your side of the petri dish?

I'll leave this here- Just Jack -Stars in Their Eyes (new window)

blame everyone else. babble on like a psych dropout and then post a link to some balding douche dj no one gives a fark about..

go cry on the LiLo fanboard.

Lilo needs to spend time in prison, you need to go to a country where they have real problems.

Lilo needs to take responsibility for herself, you know, like an adult instead of, you know, like children who externalize blame everything/ every one else.
