But making an airsoft flamethrower for situation games would be awesome. The field I go to has rocket launchers used for "Destroy Target" games. A short range bunker clearing flamethrower would be great. If bunker is hit, all occupants are dead.

You can use a 9v battery instead of a lighter for the steal wool thing.
Just rub the battery contacts on the steal wool.

What are airsoft pellets? They look deadly.

Number 3 doesn't seem particularly safe. I remember making a potato cannon that worked on the same principle, only it was made out of PVC, and I was made aware of the dangers one night when an adhesive failure rocketed the combustion chamber straight into my crotch. I can only imagine the shrapnel wounds that would result if some kid got a little overzealous with the fuel and blew that cheap piece of nerf crap to bits.

This will be a birthday gift forthwith - thanks! We already built a potato cannon that has a muzzle velocity of 190 mph (measured by ballistic pendulum and high-speed video). I love being a boy raising sons.

I was wondering about that airsoft machine gun...looks like the pellets find their way into the firing tube by just randomly bouncing around. Might work well as long as you have a bunch of pellets, but that last dozen or so might be a PITA.

Sure they are, if handled properly. You don't go spraying bb's at someone not wearing gear, or fire hairspray rockets at people. But I certainly wouldn't call them weapons.

My point, as it was from the beginning of this thread, is that anything with a business end should not be called a toy. They are home-made recreational weapons and must be treated with the respect due such devices.

That airsoft landmine will get you a visit from the ATF. Especially if you modify the baking soda to be a different powder.

Replace the rubbing alcohol with wood alcohol or RC model car fuel with 30% nitromethane for extra fun!

that one I personally thought was pretty cool BECAUSE the building phase looked like something a militia or terrorist cell would actually put together, so you can kind oif "get into character" then

I was thinking replace the soda bottle with a section of galvanized pipe a foot long and 2 inch diameter, two end caps, one with two holes drilled in it for the wire, instead of screws cold solder the wires to a model rocket igniter, fill with blackpowder and watch the fun....

buckler: I was wondering about that airsoft machine gun...looks like the pellets find their way into the firing tube by just randomly bouncing around. Might work well as long as you have a bunch of pellets, but that last dozen or so might be a PITA.

Compressed air goes into bottle. Only one way out....through the "barrel". Air thus rushes through the barrel, sucking the airsoft pellets out with it.

I built a MUCH tamer version of #3. Get the nerf gun and melt a strip of vacuum cleaner belt on the inside end of the barrel. Seal and make air tight. If done correctly, it will fit ping pong balls.

/Spray paint electric silver
//Mount laser pointer underneath using a basic L-bracket

Surprisingly effective for something done in college. Decent recoil and the ball shoots about 40 feet.

J. Frank Parnell: If they're safe they aren't weapons

This.

It's like in the Hogfather when Death replaces the Discworld's Santa and doesn't understand you're not literally supposed to give the children what they really want and gives a 12 year old girl a razor sharp broadsword. The mother says "That's not safe for a girl!" and Death replies "Of course it's not safe, it's a sword!"

Find an old spark plug, remove the inner and outer contacts so you have an empty chamber. Pound the spark plug into a piece of wood so the chamber is sticking out. Find a bolt that fits fairly well into the chamber and attach it to the end of the stick with slingshot rubber so that the bolt will fit into the chamber with a fair amount of tension. Get a box of wooden matches and remove the heads from 5 of them and put them into the chamber. Rip a small section of the striker off the box and put it (facing down of course) over the match head fragments, and carefully place the bolt over the whole thing. Bang it against the pavement fairly hard. Safe, but you will probably blow out your ears.

/Or, you know, buy some M-80s and be done with it.

Hollie Maea: Get a box of wooden matches and remove the heads from 5 of them and put them into the chamber.

That's hard work. For a quicker bang, buy a bottle of iodine tincture one with ammonia water. Wait for some time for crystal residue to form. Pour the liquid on top away, pour the remaining crystals all over filter paper, dry (not in direct sunlight).

The thing is very unstable and explodes with a loud bang. Favorite trick was to put some on the floor under the chair of the math teacher and wait until she'd move it...

Nice...I suppose there are a lot of easier ways to make a bang. We used to do the above described when I lived in a place where matches were the highest form of technology readily available.

Oh, I get that. It's just that the pellets eventually have to find their way into the low-pressure stream near the tube. Seems that if there are only a few rolling around at the bottom of the bottle, it'd just be blowing air. I'd have to see a full demo, I guess.

I keep some in the truck of my car at all times. Never know when you are gonna find a interesting place to spin some steel wool. Remember to wear gloves. Also, I use a metal whisk on the end of a length of cable. Works much better that the method in the video.

Is that anyhting like a kitchen balloon whisk? Cos I have one of them.

There are commercially available airsoft claymores that work more like a catapult and throw a load of bb's, but they're crazy expensive.

But yes, every now and then there is a story of airsoft gear getting confiscated.

Yup. Those work quite nicely. However I would suggest just going to a dollar store and picking up cheap one cause you aren't going to be using that thing ever again. Also, make sure it's one with a loop on the bottom.

And thanks. Enclosed places are the best, when it warms up I plan to look for some new and interesting places.
