L33t Squirrel: wxboy: It seems pretty impressive that the two supercells practically ass-to-mouth with each other in northern KY have sustained themselves for probably close to three hours now. Usually the outflow from the trailing one would choke off the inflow to the leading one, but that doesn't seem to be happening today.

TORNADO CENTIPEDE.

Watching this on TWC is just surreal. This is one hell of an outbreak. Stay safe, anyone in the path of the storm.

Shadow Blasko: Flab: Shadow Blasko: Crap .. Just lost primary power

Can't you reconfigure the plasma conduits to reroute auxiliary power to the forward shield array?

/Or head to the basement... whichever you prefer.

No basement here

Hang in there, Shadow Blasko.

Anyone who can predict an X class solar flare can beat a tornado.

Yeah. Their animation had three cells moving straight towards the city. TORNADO CENTIPEDE indeed.

I actually think tornadoes are pretty cool (not in a tough -teenager -"I'm not scared"-sort-of-way but in a more awestruck way) and have had fantasies of being a storm chaser, but I neither had gas nor time.

The only thing that's ever pissed me off weather wise is hail. Hail is notorious for universally farking everyones shiat up outside. Though it is because of the hail the sky turns green during a tornadic event, so I guess it's a blessing in disguise. A blessing that puts holes in everyone's roofs and cars and lawn furniture and slow pets. As an Engineer I've always wondered how I could develop a quickly deployable system for my car in the event of hail. Kevlar tarp? Outside Airbags? Trouble with those are the fact hail is usually accompanied by wind, which would make those systems aggravate other problems.

From AP: An apparent tornado also damaged a state maximum security prison about 10 miles from Huntsville, but none of the facility's approximately 2,100 inmates escaped. Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Brian Corbett said there were no reports of injuries, but the roof was damaged on two large prison dormitories that each hold about 250 men. Part of the perimeter fence was knocked down, but the prison was secure.

Actually, it's a fairly widely acknowledged thing among the emergency management community that if the Waffle House is gone, Shiat Has Gotten Real. (Seriously--Waffle Houses and the like DO tend to end up as staging areas)

Well, at least what I have to assume were Lexington's tornado sirens have stopped. The weather map doesn't even begin to reassure me that they won't be going off again, though...

The really really scary stuff went well south of me, but I don't recall a storm where it got as dark as it did as fast as it did, and those were some of the fastest moving rain clouds I can remember. Scary stuff.

Once again...stay safe. This is serious shiat out there.

I was looking around at my co-workers and thinking "Jesus H. Christ, I do not want to die with these people."

Evansville here. I was in the Petersburg IN tornado in June '90, and the Evansville one in November '05. It's already been said, but bears repeating many times, DO NOT FARK AROUND when it comes to tornadoes, y'all.

I make a lot of Kentuckian jokes, but I'm very worried for you guys. Please do be safe, and let us know you're OK when it's over. If you can safely do so.

Serves as a good reminder to make sure you've put together/restocked if necessary, your emergency preparedness kit.
