I'll be in China for a couple of weeks in April. I'll have to keep my eye out for some of these and see how they taste.

I think I've got a couple of ex's that are suppliers to the Chinese.

MMMM. PMS in a can. Sounds tasty. Does it come with a recording that biatches and moans about trivial crap and constantly asks if it looks fat?

The mice wine isn't for drinking, it's a topical ointment for bruises and sprains and the like. Still disgusting nonetheless.

Seems like it works, those mice don't look bruised or sprained at all.

I was going to come in here and say "Strangest thing I've every seen is Asparagus soda", but it's actually on the list - Do I win?

You'd think the mice wine would have done it but it was the photo of all the drinks with the serial killer standing in front that scared the shiat out of me.

I read that list to the wife and it quite put her off the taste of my sperm.

Smoky Dragon Dish: W....T....F....

Nightmare fuel below this line ----------------------------------------------

I was out to dinner with a Chinese exchange student once, and (after he had convinced me to eat some whole-fried baby octopus) he told me about a dish called the "Three Screams"

He's said he'd never done it, but supposedly in some parts of China it's a delicacy to eat live baby mice. The name of the dish comes from the method of preparation: baby mice are set out and a small pot of cooking oil is brought to frying temperature. When it's time to eat the diner first grabs a mouse with chopsticks (the first scream), cover it in sauce or seasoning (the second scream), then dunk it in the hot cooking oil (the third scream). Presumably the mouse is in no shape for a fourth scream (eating it) afterwards.

I asked about the bones, to which he said that the bones of a baby mouse aren't solidified yet, so they're just chewy.

//Happy nightmare fuel

Golden Muscle Wine from Cambodia - Made from herbs and Deer Antlers. Pretty much exactly what it tastes like.
Probably one of the strangest drinks I've ever tried.

Fubini: Presumably the mouse is in no shape for a fourth scream (eating it) afterwards.

Actually, I looked on Google and some people say the third scream is when you eat the live mouse raw, without frying. Either one works, I suppose.

While I don't care much for mice, that is completely horrific. I think even vegetarians can agree the beef, chicken, fish, and lamb I eat are treated more humanely then that.

D'you realize that some poor bastard has to collect those from the horse? Just take the girls to the animal, cutting out the middle man. Admittedly, I'll need to be there in order to make sure they don't harm the horse and are doing things properly.

how a 2012 online writer can maintain such a POV is "weird and bizarre".

The list fails so badly.. and two entries are not even a "soft drink".

Some are not common in the western world but not really that bizarre.. come on, swallow nest everyone knows about that already, water chestnut is quite common in Asia.
PMS in a can... sure the packaging and marketing isn't great, but it's just diluted fruit vinegar which is quite popular again in Asia...
Coconut juice is bizarre and weird now?

poor packaging, may be... weird soft drinks, no.

I had Coffee Boss before, so "Silky Black" as a particular flavor of bottled coffee seems fine to me, especially fi the consumer is familiar with Coffee Boss.

Exactly; I buy the occasional can of coconut water myself (not quite the same- milk is the flesh liquified), to me, iced tea is weirder

lake_huron: /What is a Pocari, and why is it's sweat so tasty?

It took me a long time, but I finally identified the taste, and why it's so familiar: it's like flat Squirt soda.

Still... Pocari Sweat is easily the best thirst-quencher I've ever had. Make a quart, put it on ice, play softball on a blistering summer day, chug delicious Pocari Sweat afterward. Wonderful stuff.
