For anyone into this, the #SportsGuyObamaCast tag on Twitter today was gold.

I enjoyed this podcast. I liked how Obama talked about how stressful it is to throw out the first pitch.

JerseyTim: throw out the first pitch

I almost regretted my vote that day.

Say what you will about Dubya, but homeboy could toss.

That headline would have been so much better with a ,kill Breitbart at the end.

If he spent more time on the economy, more of us could enjoy sports.

2012-03-01 12:28:41 PM
Simmons did an hourlong podcast about reality TV, several podcasts with NBA figures, and a podcast with the President, all in the same week. What a life.

I'd be more impressed if he could breakdown some NHL.

Yeah, and Obama says as much.

I'd love to see a roundtable discussion with Bush, Clinton, Obama and Bush Sr done the same way HBO did it with these comedians. They would talk about what it's like to be president. No policy, no politics. Just the daily ins and outs of having that job. I bet it would be great.

Did you spend a lot of time in high school being held upside down over a toilet?

"As a biracial person, you must be able to relate to Teen Wolf, no?" #SportsguyObamaCast

I nearly busted a gut at that one.

BS: Over the last five years, how many times have you envisioned welcoming the world champion Chicago Bulls to the White House?

Obama: Every year. And it hasn't happened yet, but it will happen.

BS: It will happen? You're like Joe Namath - you're guaranteeing it.

Obama: Well, I've got another five years here and - [laughter] -

BS: You're guaranteeing that, too. [Laughter.]

I used to be but he lost me of late. But this was a good interview. Nice jorb simmons.

I loved this pod more than just about any other BS Report over the past year. Listening to Obama, you just got the mental picture of a dude that had no cares in the world. He's throwing out "I was into that before you" hipster shots left and right, he's brazenly predicting not only a Bulls championship but his own electoral win as well, talking about breaking Chris Paul's ankles, trolling the BCS...

There's no way this dude is losing in November. We all kind of know that at this point, but for a President to go through three years of perhaps the most politically contentious and toxic time we've had in recent memory, be nearing the home stretch of his re-election, and still be able to sound about as smooth as Scott Van Pelt in an interview...it's impressive.

jayhawk88: There's no way this dude is losing in November.

Dude has it dialed in. Come November he's either going to be a two-term president or insanely wealthy at fifty-one and able to do virtually anything he wants for the rest of his life. Either way he goes he can't lose.

2012-03-01 01:12:10 PM

TFA:

Obama: I love Chris Paul. He's a great guy. He's on my Presidential Fitness Council. And I've gotten to know a lot of these guys, because for my 49th birthday I had my own little All-Star Game here.

BS: I heard about that. I wasn't invited.

Obama: You weren't? Maybe next time. So Chris was one of the guys who played. And I did a little crossover on him. He claims that he could have stolen the ball. Everybody who was there knows that that's not true. The second time, he might have stolen the ball. The first time he didn't know I had that move on me.

BS: So you surprised him with it?

Obama: I did, yes. Yes. My crossover is solid.

Heh.

Of course it did, they had to station an entire aircraft carrier battle fleet outside the studio for protection.

Simmons claimed in the past that he had Obama booked for a podcast when he was running for President, and espn shot it down because they didn't want to be seen as favoring one candidate over another. Looks like he got his way eventually.

can we move this thread to the politics tab so that the sports tab can remain neutral as our white christian forefathers would have wanted?

A Fark Handle: can we move this thread to the politics tab so that the sports tab can remain neutral as our white christian forefathers would have wanted?

You kidding me? Our white christian forefathers would have wanted sports to be politicized. Slavery would make those tricky lockouts a thing of the past! Except for hockey ... slavery wouldn't help that sport. Tougher immigration and visa laws would though!

Best part is at the end:

BS: Last question, quick, five seconds.

Obama: Yes.

BS: Settle an office debate. Best Wire character of all time?

Obama: It's got to be Omar, right? I mean, that guy is unbelievable, right?

BS: We might break this down as like a March Madness bracket, and I think he's going to be the no. 1 seed. [Laughter.] Everyone is in on Omar, it seems like.

Obama: He's got to be the no. 1 seed. I mean, what a combination. And that was one of the best shows of all time.

BS: Yes, I agree with you.

Obama: Yes, it was a great show.

BS: Mr. President, thank you for being on the B.S. Report.

Obama: Appreciate you. Thank you.

When he started his "Boston Sports Guy" blog/website, I wonder if Simmons ever thought he would have a month like this: Going to Indy for the SB podcasts, talking with his idol (Bird), talking to one of the guys he read back in Boston (Bob Ryan), going to Orlando for the AS podcasts where he spoke to the likes of Dirk and Dave Cowens and ending it by going to the WH to speak to the President.

2012-03-01 01:51:50 PM
Nice to see Simmons eventually got the "ice cream bars" segment of his new contract demands.

No, you wouldn't be able to enjoy sports even if the economy was as awesome as it was in the Clinton years because Negros, Hispanics and even Asians are allowed to participate.

You do agree the economy was pretty awesome in the Clinton years, don't you?

Obama is running unopposed during primary season. So they did not give him any extra time as compared to his current adversaries, of which there are none.

If he had spoken to Santorum or Romney and none of the other Republicans, this would be an issue.

Grantland is Simmons idea/creation so it lets him pretty much do whatever he wants. I think ESPN still has some ownership or management to some degree, but Simmons ultimately has full control. Funny how they still linked to the podcast though

It must be nice to basically run unopposed for your second term. He barely needs to campaign against the idiots the GOP is running.

IMO, after Comedy Central and MSNBC, ESPN is the most liberal channel on cable.

So yeah...make fun of the Repubs again. It's what you guys do best.

I have to say this one always cracks me up as the most empty of all the empty criticisms. The man has made mistakes. He has faults. But of all the things you could criticize him for, why choose that one? Would anyone care to tell me the last president that DID NOT use the teleprompter? I suspect it was whoever was president before they invented the damn thing. As for doing things besides being the president I'm not sure you remember the last guy, but he was known to take a few days weeks (fixed that for me) off pretty regular like.

Not made mistakes. Can't speak for himself on critical issues. I'm sorry your a supporter that can't see the difference. I do remember the last guy. He was made fun of for the things he said...a LOT. Obama....gets a pass somehow.
