I predict much Joseph Gorden Levett over saturation and Fark rage resulting in it.

But eff that, I think the man is gorgeous and an actually interesting film presence

Everything but the vampire hunter movie looks great!

It's too early. Hipster Nation hasn't even calibrated for the spring yet.

There's a huge backlog of smug still trying to decide how best to hate on the new Avengers trailer.

Prometheus, The Hobbit....that's about all there is. The rest look like ass or "wait for DVD" movies.

Though I do not guarantee if they'll all be good, there's no mention of any of these: John Carter, The Raven, The Amazing Spider-Man, Bourne Legacy, 7500, Expendables 2, Total Recall, Cogan's Trade, Great Gatsby, Dredd, Skyfall.....even 1 of those might have made this less of some artsy film aristocrat's last minute blog post.

FTFA:

Lockout: A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Sounds awfully familiar. Any ideas where I've seen that, Plissken?

After first reading about wwz, I thought it was going to be a regular zombie flick. Now it sounds like it has potential. I hope they include the nerdy Japanese kid who finds steel.

These are the only ones listed I have an interest in seeing

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Prometheus

I also find his reason, for including #10 Escape From New York in Space, highly dubious. He's obviously not seen much of anything done by Luc Besson since Leon.

Honestly, I'm down to only seeing one or two movies a year in the theatre. The rest are On Demand or Blu-Ray only.

If I was a betting man, I'd say only The Avengers and The Hobbit will get me out the door in 2013. Prometheus looks great, though.

I think John Carter will flop at the box office.

I'll admit that my first thought of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was that it sounded awesome. But then I watched the actual trailer and that killed any desire I had to actually see the movie.

Other than the Tarantino thing, I'm going to see every one of those.

Believe it or not, I understand this logic, and it has very little to do with whether the movies are subjectively "good" or not. There are entries on the list in TFA that I definitely want to see, but I won't go to the theater (with all of it's attendant BS to put up with) to see them. But a big, in-your-face, michael-bay-wet-dream kind of movie? Yeah, that's the kind of thingthat needs to be experienced in the theater.

Fiancee and I went to see a movie and this was one of the previews. I was being all snarky and was like 'The name of this movie is probably 'Escape from...something.'

Of course it wasn't, but seriously... and the main characters name is Snow.

I've been impressed with that dude since 3rd Rock From the Sun. Then I heard nothing about him for years (hey it happens to kid actors, and I was busy being in my early 20s so I didn't watch many movies) until Brick hit. Then I saw Manic and Mysterious Skin.

As far as I can tell he's the best actor my age (30), with the possible exception of Ryan Gosling. Search Fark and Levitt I'm sure you'll see I've been a shameless fan for years.

Lockout: Escape from New York meets The 5th Element.. may be watchable.
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter: I'm still not sure about this.
Looper: New to me. Time travel is often poorly done.
Gravity: Interesting concept, but that's a terribly dull, self important trailer.
Stoker: New to me, haven't seen the guy's other films, and there's not much to go on.
The Master: I feel like I get plenty of faith-based freaks on the Politics tab already.
World War Z: I still know very little about it.
Django Unchained: I've never been a Western fan, unless you count Blazing Saddles. We'll see.
The Hobbit: Oh yes! There was never any question.
Prometheus: I dunno.. I was never very fond of the Alien movies.. too much Horror.

2012-03-01 03:33:33 PM
Foxx looks like a farking idiot with that hat.

2012-03-01 03:41:58 PM
The Avengers and The Hobbit are getting me in to the theaters for sure.

Lockout - meh.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - OK, that just sounds like such a retarded, batshiat crazy idea that it wraps all the way around, full circle, back to being cool again. I gotta admit, I want to see that.
Gravity, Stoker, The Master, Django..... I want to see trailers.
Prometheus - Sort of want to see.

World War Z: Pass. Fark you, makers of WWZ. Fark you so much. The book was awesome, and could have been fodder for several good movies, but despite the blurb in this story we already know they decided to go with a cliche Brad Pitt tries to save the world plot and fast zombies instead of the awesomeness that could have been.
