Lay off the man, Lebron's mom isn't a cheap a whore anymore.

He was probably homeless on purpose. For the same reason he drinks hot sauce.

But I like West. Certainly worth the $850k. Decent player, defiantly a team player, and never biatches about anything.

Mavs been suffering a little since he's been out or more specifically Sean Marion is suffering.

/if I ever see him on bum fights, I'll take whatever odds. Hell, I'd be his manager

He's mentally ill and is just coming to terms with it. He's a success story now if anything

Weird, the Keebler Elves seem like such charming people, I can't believe they'd just throw him out of the tree like that.

Child support, cars, and dumb investments. The three headed monster for every pro athlete financially...

well, the locker room is heated and has toilets and showers, so he's ahead of most.

Couldn't one of his teammates rent him a basement room for cheap?

Our company has several current and former NFL players as investors. During the strike one of them said he was quite certain no regular season games would be missed because many of the players couldn't afford to miss the paycheck.

I would imagine the NBA has players in similar situations.

Lottery winners are smarter, they know the money will run out eventually. Pro players see everyone else going broke and they still make stupid choices, its really amazing to me.

octopied: well, the locker room is heated and has toilets and showers, so he's ahead of most.

Most pro locker rooms are nicer than most of our houses, they have areas for players to nap, workout rooms, media rooms, massage rooms, whirlpools, plus most of them are in the middle of the downtown areas and we are not even getting to the cheerleaders coming in to practice!!!!

Yeah, our company used to own a semi-pro team that had a few low level NFL players on it and most of them said the same thing, the stars would usually be broke a couple years after checks stopped while most of the lower salary guys were the ones they would hit up for money since they knew it wouldnt last and saved for the future. He said its almost sad seeing stars coming to him asking him for a loan, but he said quite a few were complete dicks when they were making money and he didnt have a problem telling them to fark off.

Really? It amazes you that people who were primarily raised in low income areas haven't been exposed to tenants of good financial management and that they're immediately surrounded by people who just want to take advantage of their ignorance.

Most pro-athletes are set up to fail.

You say that like lottery winners arent in the same category, a lot of lottery winners were broke a few years after winning but more and more there are people staying wealthy from winning huge lottery jackpots, like the guy in Connecticut who won recently, they just let their lawyers claim it as a trust, they arent public and never have to put up with bullshiat from people asking for shiat.

What really amazes me out pro athletes is that they have all these mandatory classes they go to about watching out for people like that and how to invest their money wisely, yet none of them pay attention even when well known financial people show up to help teach. I know, even if I were in that position that class sounds boring as hell, but still........

Mostly because the first two groups of people who make it to professional athletes are the shiny suited bastards with a "deal" for them. They usually follow the cavalcade of relatives who want to do everything from starting a record label to buying into half-baked franchises and pyramid schemes. They aren't found by the responsible financial advisers too often and it can be a true shame. All the classes and all the symposiums and people hired by NFL teams to advise these guy on how not to piss their money away won't save so many of them.

Even penniless and credit shot, he could buy a nice 1 bedroom in Dallas for $50,000 just on his salary alone He makes 70 grand a month if paid by the year or more if by the season. After taxes, plenty of cash to drop on a small house. Even if he couldn't sell it if he's traded or dropped, he can, I don't know, rent it?

I forget who said it, but it was a Packers veteran, he said during the lockout, and c'mon, it was only a few months, and besides that, THEY DON'T GET PAID IN THE OFFSEASON, unless it's some small roster bonus, so it's not like it was a stretch of time they never got paid in anyway. Well, back to the player, he said he was being hit up for $500k loans from several players, b/c they needed to pay their entourages, security and child supports.

And I'm thinking Forbes published a report 4/5 years ago that said something like 75% of NBA players are bankrupt 5 years after they retire. That's just sad and pathetic.

Maybe these leagues can have a software company generate a Quickbooks-like software for stupid professional athletes, and can use big pictures and bright colors, or strippers, hookers and bling as visual references to their financial paths.

oh yeah, and an expansion pack to that software for child support payments. That's a booming industry thanks to pro athletes.

It amazes me that these types don't by an overpass at the beginning while they are still flush. Then later when the bottom drops out they have a home to hang their hat.

I really just dont get it, even with child support and a huge home, there is no farking reason why $14 million couldnt last a lifetime, but then again, a lot of us would use common sense and thats something most athletes have never tried to acquire.
