I beg to differ. It is precisely what their job is. Inculcating children to acquiesce to ANYbody who demonstrates a posture of authority.

You can leave school illiterate, mathematically inept and with an interest in absolutely nothing but PS3 games, WWE and who said what on Real Housewives, last night, but if you piss off the man, we're gonna knock your dick in the dirt, son.

Name one job left in this country that public education prepares you for. Hell, it barely prepares you for college which, lately, prepares you for nothing but debt and the same paper towel dispenser degree as the other 3,000 mooks who managed to con their parents into mortgaging their home that year.

The system, you see, is broken. And nobody can figure out a way to make a buck off of fixing the system, especially when the people with all the money are trying to break what's left of it as fast as they can. School is PRECISELY incarceration prep. That dark tint on the collective glasses of the body politic isn't roses. It's what they grow in.

I don't have kids, but I might someday. In a BS school "lockdown" situation like this one, what's to stop the parents from just showing up at the school and marching out their children? I'm sorry, but school administrator's aren't wardens running a prison. They don't get to issue "lockdowns." If it's so dangerous that the kids need to be locked in a room then it's too dangerous for them to be there and I'd pick my kid up.

My opinion is further colored by the fact that the wife used to teach. She subsequently left the profession after 4 years due to the idiocy of administration. After hearing her stories, plus ones like this, school administrators are the absolute last group of people I would want taking charge of my hypothetical children in a crisis situation.

So, my 10 year old started with origami and then progressed into making all kinds of all other fun stuff with paper. Part of his exhibit was a very carefully re-created Colt 1911 handgun out of paper. It even has a functioning slide and a clip that comes out. Creative, right?


Negative. That's a concerned call from school principal, informing us of serious consequences if he brings such creations to "show and tell" next time around.
