I too, wish to compliment sub on the headline!

...and I too, had to put up with my sisters and their friends who were absolutely apeshiat over Davy Jones, Tommy Roe and Bobby Sherman!

Saw 'em live in '87. Davy got the biggest laugh. Strolled out strumming an acoustic guitar. Peter comes out to protest, "What are you doing? Everyone knows the Monkees don't play their own instruments."

Davy deadpans, "This is Mickey's."

Nor did the Beach Boys, or pretty much any famous American group before the late-1960s.

Crystal Girl: AiryAnne: I saw them back in 1986 or 1987. "Weird Al" opened.

I also saw a show from that tour. I had several people in college argue with me that I must have been remembering it wrong.

I too saw a show from that tour, at Six Flags Astroworld. I still have the program somewhere.

CSB - during their resurgence in '86/'87, I couldn't get enough of their music and tv show. My parents suggested I write a letter, which I did, as best as any 6-year old could do at the time. I don't remember how much time passed, but one day I came home to find an envelope addressed to me. Inside was an autographed picture of Davy, Micky, and Peter, with a note that read, "Dear gao81, thanks for the support!" I remember being in shock. Recently, my parents told me that before mailing my letter, my Dad had included a note of his own, telling them how much of a fan I was, etc.... I still have the picture too.

Fun fact: When Don Kirschner lost creative control of the Monkees, he wanted to start up another pre-fab musical group, but this time without clashing with human egos. Solution: a cartoon group with no-name session musicians, hence:

Me too! I got one from Peter Tork. I remember being really confused when it came, because I had no recollection of ever writing a letter. It wasn't until later that it occurred to me to suspect that my mother wrote it, since he was her favorite.

Interesting the split in 20-30 year olds between those who know 60's music and those who don't.

Only noticed it when my daughter got to 18 and told me a story about how her friends listened to a radio station which played an oldie about every 10 or 12 songs, and she would be happily singing along to Surfin' USA and all her mates looking at her going "What? How come you know words to that stuff?" and one of the others saying "I know how. Your dad used to play that on the car radio, didn't he?"

Which was right. And realized that whole generation of kids grew up listening to "The wheels of the bus go round and round" etc when they were in the car, whereas it never occurred to me that that was what you were supposed to entertain them with.

Instead I just listened to the stuff that I loved, and she got a vital education in important lessons. I mean think of lyrics like "and she'll have fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the T-bird away" - far better than churchy sermons about telling me the truth

Count me in for someone who saw them with Weird Al in 1986.
June 6th, 1986 at Six Flags Great Adventure. I waited in line for 2 frakking hours for the Ultra Twister and it broke down as I was 2 car loads of people away. I couldnt wait anymore because we had to get to the Great Arena.

They filmed the music video (remember those?) for That Was Then, This Is Now that day/night. played the song twice during the concert to get more film for the video.

\was looking forward to Davy at Epcot's International Flower & Garden show in May.
\\boring story, i know..

got into them from seeing them constantly on MTV.
