Those are some artfully placed ellipses.

Jebus, everyone uses that excuse when someone points out their bullshiat. Even 50 something year old southern white women. "Fark the haters, ya'll. I don't need to take a step back and look at my actions, accept that I may have not handled the situation as well as I could have, and use this to grow as a person. As long as I have you mouth breathers buying my products and giving me attention, I will re-pay you by not using my influence to help you lead a healthier lifestyle."

If you cared about them, you would try to educate those likely to make the same mistakes you did. Especially those who may not have your high disposable income for top treatments, or thier own medicaton sponsor for free meds.

Anthony Bourdain rules. Only TV chef I watch. Fark the haters.

Bourdain has alluded to this in "Medium Raw", but there's been a bit of a thing, for a while now. In the updated versions of "Kitchen Confidential" he did take a couple of swipes at TV chefs in general who are of the Deen vein: i.e. anyone who isn't a "real" chef doing a stand-up cooking show, and especially anyone who doesn't make everything from scratch. ("Semi-homemade", etc.) After that, she's called him out a few times.

For her to feign "shock" that he has an opinion about her is disingenuous.

Why would any chef smoke, anyway? Health issues aside, I don't think there is any question that it's going to negatively impact your ability to taste your food.

Guidette Frankentits: Anthony Bourdain is more arrogant than Bill Maher.

Possibly, but much like Bill Maher, he has a way with words and a television persona that some find engaging. This enables both of them to make a living as entertainers, despite the fact (or perhaps because of it) that people like you find them arrogant.

2012-02-29 01:26:28 PM
Yeah, two "celebrity chefs" can argue about who is more of a hater or who is more of a bad role model. Meanwhile, north of the border, they're building farms out of meat!

Oddly, lots of chefs smoke. My theory is that cooking/working in restaurants involves lots of down-time punctuated by brief periods of intense activity and you need something to do when you're not actually working. This theory also applies to actors.

Personally, I think just the act of watching Bourdain smoking was pretty un-glamorous. I found myself sitting there, thinking "I don't want to be that guy when I'm 40".

Because the job is stressful as hell and it's an easy out.

I like Bordaine, and he's right on that. She did exactly what he claims she did - she had diabetes, made her name by selling hamburgers with Krispy Kreme Donuts as the buns, she hid it all the while cooking insane, high sugar, high fat, terrible-for-diabetics food, and now she'll turn right around and "eat healthy", using her self-inflicted disease as an "oh poor me" rallying cry to all the other slobs who did the same thing.

He's not wrong. But I'm pretty sure I've heard him refer to taking cholesterol-lowering meds, and I'm pretty sure he continues to express his love-borderline-fetish for red meat. That's not entirely different from what Deen did, minus the spokes-pimping.

yes, but red meat can be part of a healthy diet, much to some health nuts' chagrin. Broccoli with a stick of butter over it and (I'm sorry I keep harping on this but it's insane to me) a hamburger with Krispy Kremes as the freak'n buns are not.

I don't know why he's got a hard-on for her, but as the father of a nine year old with Type I juvenile diabeetus I am glad he called her on it. She didn't commit a crime or violate any rules, but how she handled this, and going public as a shill, has bothered me. When a person becomes a public figure they are also always at risk of being tried in the court of public opinion. And we all know how much true evidence is needed to get a conviction there;none.

Then there's this quote FTA:"I didn't choose [my diabetes]. I don't care what they say. What I do care about is y'all

Every thought there is filled with either flat out lying, or an ignorance level which should earn her disrespect. You did choose your diabetes with your diet and living. You do care about what they say (and should as a public figure) or you'd shut up. You don't care about us'n or you'd give some serious caveats for people who eat that buttered up shiat you call food.

It wouldn't take much, Deen. Show some support of diabetes without being a paid shill. Do a JDRF weekend camp and show some kids how awesome food can be despite needing to be diabetic friendly (my wife makes some whip ass stuff we all eat, even though it's meant for a diabetic), do some PSAs for any diabetic group, or something. You don't have to do these things, and I wouldn't demand it either but, quit pretending like you don't get where the ire comes from, or how a celebrity personality might just be able to put this fire out a bit. Who does your PR?? Mrs. FarkingButterworth??

Regardless of what his problem is with her, his unapologetic red meat fetish, combined with having to take cholesterol drugs, is "in bad taste if nothing else," - the words he used to describe Deen. But then, I don't have any proof he's got high cholesterol, so I'm sort of talking out of my ass. I like Bourdain. I think Deen is incredibly irresponsible to promote that kind of food, and incredibly hypocritical to take money to promote drugs she has to take because of the food she promotes. But you know, the food Bourdain promotes is a long way from being healthy, too. They both have enough sense to say you can't eat it very often. But I'm pretty sure they both eat it all the time anyway.

Tony is 100% spot on. I'm sure she didn't set out one morning saying "I think I'm gonna try and get me some diiibeetes y'all", but, she had to have known the risk. That stuff doesn't just sneak up on you. My father-in-law, who loves that woman ate himself into type II. There were plenty of signs it was coming, but, he chose to ignore it. Its sad, and it pisses me off that she doesn't see her influence. She cares about her fans, yet encourages them to live the way she does, so they can end up just like her, and slip a few dollars in her bank account in the meantime.

I've read Bourdain's books and decided he's some skinny guy who probably got his butt kicked in the schoolyard a lot. He loved to play up what ruff tuff creampuffs he had in his kitchen and he enjoys bullying other people who have cooking shows. I'm from the East Coast, too, and can see right through that act.

Deen could probably whup his ass with one hand tied behind her back.
