I wonder if he doesn't know what he is talking about. So many of these gay-haters are gay themselves, maybe he does have a barely controlled urge to hump a dog. It would seem like a perfectly reasonable thing to say from his point of view if that's true. He wouldn't be the first one to lust after dogs I've read about on Fark.

Serious question: If Santorum gets the nomination, do you think we'd see the non-batshiat crazy Republicans go third party (Gary Johnson, or something similar), stay at home and not vote, vote for Obama, or just vote Republican because socialism?

Bring the lulz tonight Rick!!

I don't know if it means all that much, but in addition to the polling of the last 24-48 hours showing a shift back to Santorum, the Romney campaign has been working reaaaaally hard today to downplay expections while also blaming the Dems for voting for Santorum in Michigan.

Now, that makes sense to lower expectations, but just this weekend Romney was still saying they were going to win.

I'd love to see their internal polling data right now. I think it's telling them they are going to lose MI.

Really? I heard it was Santorum who was lowering expectations. Maybe they both were. But anyway, I hope you're right.

Given your specific criteria, I am going to guess most will not vote. Apathy in not being represented. A few may vote Obama if they are disgusted enough with Santorum's pseudo-holy war, but they're probably a small group provided Santorum says or does nothing to motivate them to take action.

Also, the VP choice could factor into turnout, Santorum's crazy as they come in certain aspects, but there's a scary shrewdness to some of his moves. He has the capability to choose a running mate that could sell the semi-sane on the idea that Santorum is actually capable and intelligent by proxy. "If he chose candidate x then maybe I was wrong about him, and he might be better than Obama." Kind of a reverse-Palin move.

The Name: Really? I heard it was Santorum who was lowering expectations. Maybe they both were. But anyway, I hope you're right.

It's quite possible they both are...it would be the first traditionally correct thing either of them has done right in weeks if so. It's basically Campaign 101 stuff....but as we've seen neither are very good candidates that run very good campaigns.

But Romney's campaign has been on the talk shows and social media today particularly complaining about the Dem cross over voting. And almost every poll taken within the last day or two has late deciders breaking more for Santorum. And as Nate Silver has shown, Santorum seems to underperform in polls compared to his actual turnout.

Of course none of that means anything if those people don't vote, but the demographic Santorum is courting is typically much more inclined to take the time and effort to vote than Romney's.

baorao: I am still trying to figure out if I should go and vote for Santorum today just to help muddy the waters. But if he actually did somehow become President I would genuinely feel terrible.

Look at it this way. If he did somehow win, the country has jumped the shark no matter what. I voted for him in Missouri (I actually went to vote for Gingrich but the fat ass failed to get on the ballot).

The bottom line is none of these guys are going to go into the convetion with the number of deligates required to lock up the nomination at this point. So the worst you're really doing is causing a brokered convention that will drive one wing of the GOP off the deep end depending on who gets the actual nomination.

What that means in tangible terms is your vote is going to force the GOP to spend a TON of cash between now and the convetion hitting itself over the head, and not focusing on the General Election. Every dollar in advertising, campaigning, etc is off the books for the General. Meanwhile Obama can just sit back, continue to pile up cash, and prepare to beat down the poor soul that emerges from the convention.

Santorum only has an 11% chance of getting the nomination according to Intrade. I don't think anyone seriously expects he be the republican nominee. He'll drag things out a bit longer and try and force Romney into naming him VP.

As with most things related to Romney, the answer to that question is "All of the above."

Michigan:
Michigan will send 30 delegates to the GOP convention. (The state initially had 59 delegates, but the RNC penalized them for violating party rules by going before March 6.) Twenty-eight of the 30 delegates are awarded as winner-take-all based on the vote in each congressional district, and the two other delegates are awarded proportionally based on the statewide vote total (but a candidate must receive at least 15% to be eligible).

Arizona:
29 delegates are at stake. (The state originally had 58 delegates, but the RNC stripped half the delegation for the same rule violation as Michigan.) Arizona's contest is pure winner-take-all, with all of the state's 29 delegates going to the winner of the statewide vote.

AFAIK it's by congressional district, so one could still lose the popular vote but still get more delegates from the state. So it comes down to how the districts have been gerrymandered in the past.

I went around noon and was ballot #1. Of course, my university is on spring break, so...

/To put that into perspective, in 2010 I went at 7:30-ish for the general, and was ballot #12 and 13 (messed up ballot)
//No idea how many registered voters, but there are about 4-5,000 eligible voters.
///Really wish there was a precinct by precinct breakdown somewhere just so I could see how many finally voted
