Both of the places involved - Felipes and Elios - are owned by the same owner.

This sounds like everyone involved were idiots. Given the layout of these places some innocent could have been hurt or killed.

However, I will continue going there. The sangria and al pastor tacos at Felipes are definitely worth dying for.

Good job there was a responsible gun owner nearby who was able to....errrrrr....... fire multiple shots at a car in a public place in order to stop a non-violent offender in possession of low value stolen items and whose face was recorded on CCTV from getting away.

Except he got away.

Hope the shooter gets prosecuted for endangering life.

And hey, what's with the Nanny State CCTV in the US?

Oh, well, if that's how it went down, then disregard my previous post.

(Because I know you were all on the edge of your seats about it.)

If someone were to ask me for change from a phony $50 bill, I would give it to them - in lead.

To think that one would try to throw his life away for 50 bucks by clinging to a car and to think that another is thinking that a fake 50 bucks bill is enough to use deadly force...

Why the shock. Crime in NOLA has been out of control for years and it seems to be getting worse. People are fed up with it.

Last month, a woman was being carjacked when a pedestrian in the area intervened and he was shot by the perp. Dad died in front of his kids he was walking to the bus stop.

I guess this type of reaction is a result of desperation by the citizens. Too bad he was a bad shot.

farking idiot.

I don't care how bad crime is or how angry citizens are, shooting at a moving car on a public street in the middle of the day is only going to make things MORE dangerous, not less.

Well, if you're going to do this, be sure to use that special sub-penetrating ammo that (some) cops use. You don't want to hit whoever is behind your target as well, after all.

TFA says no arrests were made. if it's okay with law enforcement that people discharge firearms within city limits they must be right on top of the law and order situation. these are trained professionals; to protect and serve.
or is it just okay when you own a restaurant where pigs eat for free?

Gun nuts think bullets only hit bad people so, to them, firing wildly into public is okay because anybody that'shiat must be a criminal.

But beyond that, I can see the point about desperation. Just because he shouldn't have done it doesn't mean it may not be understandable that he did. If you're in a situation where you feel like you have nobody to rely on to protect yourself, family, and property except yourself it makes it much easier to lose control and do something you shouldn't.

I'm not saying he should have shot at the guy... but I understand.

To think one would commit a federal offense for some beer and then risk another person's life to get away with the crime...

What you miss is that when people do nothing, and part of doing nothing might include calling the NOPD, they become willing victims and will lose their livelihoods. If they take that fifty they lose the beer, the $50 they were given, and the change on the $50 they gave back to the crook. Some people get pissed as hell when you try to screw them, and others ask you to use a condom and some lube. I'm not going to judge. Had the employees shot an innocent person, they'd be at fault, just as they would be had they destroyed the city with an atomic weapon. But, they didn't, so blast away....
