Is this the thread now? I'll just re-write my post from the other one with some edits and additions.

I don't want the Isles to trade Parenteau. I don't think there's any reason the Isles and their monstrous amount of cap space can't keep him in the fold. If Snow's going to trade him, I want a lot back. Seriously. A lot.

Get Nabokov signed for another year or two.

Eaton and/or Jurcina can be had for some spare pads

2012-02-27 11:56:45 AM
I'd be willing to trade Matt Stajan for some magic beans or perhaps a three-pack of stick tape.

motherfrkking blackhawks bet motherfrkking do something.

Nash to the Rangers, please!

2012-02-27 12:16:32 PM
Slow day so far.

2012-02-27 12:16:50 PM
Caps looking to right the sinking ship. Likely will trade away young, cheap talent in an attempt to get some old vet who has no more chance to affect the locker room attitude than Jason Arnott, Roman Hamrlik, and Sergei Federov did the past few years.

2012-02-27 12:18:32 PM
Less than 3 hours to go and just Andrei Kostitsyn to Nashville for draft picks? Might be a snoozer today

2012-02-27 12:19:25 PM
almost always slow until about noon or so. hopefully it picks up. hoping the sabres get some picks for gaustad and roy.

mainstreet62: Nash to the Rangers, please!

LOL what?

2012-02-27 12:20:12 PM
Since the Kostitsyn trade will probably end up being the biggest name that moves today, I vote we come up with our own outrageous (yet, at least plausible) fake trades. You know, kind of like Eklund or everyone on TSN. Here's one to kick things off:

Rick Nash and Fedor Tyutin to Pittsburgh

Jordan Staal and Kris Letang to Columbus

Who says no?

2012-02-27 12:21:02 PM
According to Fitzy down at the pub the Bruins are getting Nash for Corvo, those campy kids ("Camper, Kampfer, whoever the heck they are") and a second round pick in 2018.

/Still trying to get confirmation on this one
//Stay tuned

Trading "cheap" talent does not give them the salary space they need to do something "big". Putting Backstrom on LTIR this morning helped. Lots of talk about Knuble and/or Hamrlik going. McPhee tends to hold onto his young prospects.

I wouldn't be unhappy about this, necessarily. After his performance in the Olympics I think Nash would thrive on a big stage, but I'd be concerned about disrupting the chemistry of the Rangers at this point. People always bring up the trades in 1994, but those moves weren't FOR a sniper, they traded their Gartner and Amonte (among others) for glue guys.

I was counting on that already. He's clearly not coming back before the playoffs start.

You'll get half a roll of 4 year old soggy masking tape and be happy about it.

Maybe you could trade him for Dion Phaneuf. Wait, that'll never work.

/Stajan isn't a bad player, he's just been horribly miscast as a scoring center.

I've been out of it lately. Is Carter still presumed to be rejoining Richards and Gagne in LA?

Carter has already rejoined Richards and the corpse of Simon Gagne in LA for a first-round pick and Jack Johnson.

He already did last week, in exchange for Jack Johnson and a pick.

Ryan Miller to Columbus
Rick Nash to Buffalo

How Scott Howson was able to pull that off is beyond me. I don't think I'd take Jeff Carter and his abortion of a contract (not to mention his general attitude) for free. Dean Lombardi needs to be fired now before he can do any more damage.

The hilarious part about this was when the leafs offloaded his ass to you guys they talked nothing about the upside potential.

The upside potential that NEVER materializes. the leafs waited forever, and the flames confirmed, This kids a dud.

CBJ sure got a haul for Carter, but the Kings are so desperate for offense that I think most people pegged them for reaching on someone by the trade deadline. If anything, I was expecting them to do something even dumber.

And the TSN guys were saying LA was thinking about making Richards the captain.

Dean Lombardi's tenure at LA:

Year 1: Wait and rebuild, no playoffs
Year 2: Wait and rebuild, no playoffs
Year 3: Wait and rebuild, no playoffs
Year 4: Rebuilding going well, playoff berth
Year 5: Rebuilding going well, playoff berth
Year 6: SELL THE GODDAMNED FARM, ???

In less than one year, LA has gotten rid of three good young players that they literally spent YEARS grooming to get to this point.

Burke confirmed for doing nothing this trade deadline. I'm pretty sure the Leafs are going to do the same.

Four years, Brian. When are the excuses going to end?

As an Arsenal fan, I just get to sit back and relax knowing they aren't going to make any moves -- even thought they probably should.

Ovechkin to Toronto for Kadri, Schenn and Grabovski.

Bob McKenzie has a big fat head.

Dear Darcy,

Sell! Sell! Sell!

Move Gaustad and Roy for the best picks you can get. If you can manage to send Stafford and Gragnani packing in the process, do it.

Don't be distracted by some foolish long-shot chance of sneaking into 8th seed this year. It's not going to happen, and even if it did, you're not winning the Cup this year.

Sincerely,
Doc

Exactly. Bumps in the road happen. Either LA ownership needs to tell Lombardi that his future is safe, don't do anything drastic, or they need to fire him immediately. Lombardi is selling out the future of the Kings for one more year of employment and it's a total conflict of interest.

I loled.

This is as exciting as watching Daytona Speedway dry.

I don't think Nash goes anywhere today. He'll probably get moved in the offseason, quite possibly to a team like Colorado that looks like it is blowing everything up, starting over next year, and needs someone to build around.

Varlamov and Giguere ain't gonna cut it as a goaltending tandem though. They'll probably be big shoppers for Schneider this offseason.

Cup Check: Less than 3 hours to go and just Andrei Kostitsyn to Nashville for draft picks? Might be a snoozer today

Given that over half the NHL makes the playoffs, and several more teams are bubble teams with aspirations of making it, there are more buyers than sellers every year. Add in the cap dynamic, and blockbuster trades are damn near impossible. Some of the asking prices I am hearing rumors of are ludicrous, not that some GM won't take a flyer and gamble that they can make a run on the cup this year regardless of the cost. Either way, the atmosphere is not conducive to big trades. I won't say a big deal for Nash couldn't go down, but I would also not be surprised to see the Kostitsyn trade be the big deal of the day.

I would also point out that it often seems to be the team that makes a trade for depth that goes on to win it all, not the team that desperately tries to create the ultimate 1st line with the big splashy trade. Keep an eye on anyone playoff bound that makes a trade for a good 3'rd line forward or 2nd pairing D, those are often just as impactful as the big deals in the long run.

I'll tell you one thing I want to have happen.

I want a GM to hugely overpay for Sam Gagner.

It will be hilarious when he doesn't score 4 goals in a game ever again in his career.

definitely, keep both parenteau and nabokov. they'd be nuts to trade parentaeu, and remember what happened when they traded an "old" goaltender last year?

however i'd like a big big defenseman, a guy who can hit and hurt.

ps - cut dipietro. just eat the contract, let's get this settled.

Once again, Toronto trades away their talent and gets nothing but overpriced crap in return.

Buffalo signing him to a 7-year $50 million offer sheet as "revenge" would be the best thing ever after Edmonton declined to match.

Wang needs to do this if he ever wants to see his team be successful. Every option should be on the table. Eat the contract, bury him in the AHL, have one of your prospects "run him over" in training camp.. Hell, pay Mike Millbury to take his knee out with with lead pipe. He got the Islanders into this situation, he should be the one to fix it!

2012-02-27 12:49:04 PM
Flipping in between TSN and Sportsnet. Watching all theses talking heads squirm and desperately try to come up with something to fill dead air is hilarious.

And yes, Commodore for a 7th rounder is dead air.

Anderson's Pooper: RumsfeldsReplacement: Who says no?

Double plus no.

The longer this goes, the more it's obvious nobody has offered Howson the golden kitchen sink he was looking for. Which is fine. Rick can just play out *another* meaningless string here in Columbus and then get traded on draft day. Which is fine.

2012-02-27 12:50:03 PM

Ham Sandvich: Commodore to the Lightning apparently

Best part of the trade -- #22 for the Lightning is currently worn by Ryan Shannon, opening up the possibility of Commodore donning the #64 jersey like he threatened to do upon joining the Wings.

2012-02-27 12:51:17 PM
If the Leafs can somehow snog Bernier from LA without losing Gardiner, I will be one happy Farker.

2012-02-27 12:51:36 PM

9beers: Commodore sent from the Wings to Lightning for a conditional pick.

I'll always have a soft spot for Mike Commodore, despite the fact that he's tainted with Red Wings stank.
