Who thought smaller radiators with small openings in the body work to bring in air was a good idea?

Great Porn Dragon: Re the Ward Burton video/ref earlier--hell yes I remember it, because the guy was practically in front of me when he did it :D (This was also the moment when I became convinced Ward Burton was full of awesome. :D)

And yes, it was Jimmy Spencer who pretty much did the same thing with rollcage padding :D

And TKat--I was joking at first when I wondered if Teh Idol had gone Skynet, but I seriously have to wonder nao...

Awesome. LMAO.

mikaloyd: ironhead: Jensaarai: Davey Allison :(

Yep.

And Tim Richmond :(

And Alan Kulwicki :(

And Dale Earnhardt :(

And many others.

Man, gettin' old really sucks when you start thinking about all of your idols that were taken too early.

My childhood Idol racer was Nikki Lauda. he didnt get killed racing but he got his entire face burnt off and he looked like an undead zombie.

Just looked him up. Went through all that, and got back in the car for another 10 years. The man has HUGE brass balls. Much respect to him.

I was at the Michigan practice when he wrecked (i think the second bad one). It was really scary.

My first 500day ever was when Irvan won in that #4. Didn't much care for him until he came to over to Ford. Have a bunch of stuff signed by him, Davey, Kulwicki and the also rans of the Ford stable in the mid 90s

No ride. Probably destroyed too many cars last year.

mikaloyd: Jensaarai: Nobody desperate enough for cash is up in the top 5. Maybe the MWR official racemaking cars.

I blame those damned tiny spoilers and radiator inlets for the lack of wrecks.

Touché.

Though you have to admit the cooler air temps are helping negate the inlet issue for now. Cars were overheating in the day even in spread out packs like we see right now. We'll see how the smaller spoiler works out once these guys decide to start racing again.

Very good documentary and definitely not a one-sided praise-fest, either. He was definitely the Dale Earnhardt of Formula 1 in a lot of ways and I miss them both.

Yeah, it got awful dusty a couple of times while I watched that flick.

Gate left open in the wall. Hehit a squared shearing edge of an immovable object at speed. Hell the motor didnt even stay with the main chassis. They dont make cars that stay together for that punishment.

Probably new EFI combined with someone's poor math skills, I'd figure.

Could also be something to do with it running hot.

They're still experimenting with fuel injection, which they just picked up this year. Also, the 15 car was running hot, which could fark with fuel related things depending on the cause.

I'd be ok with this. Mark Martin is classy and doesn't have a 500 win.
