Le Bomb Suprize: skullkrusher: Mike_LowELL: I like how people think our elected officials should be in-touch with the common man. I have never once in thirty years heard the Republican Party suggest that our President be someone I would want to drink a beer with. Mitt Romney may be wrong on the vast majority of issues (does not want to eliminate taxes, opposes slavery), but the notion that he should feel pity or sympathize with those less wealthy than him (i.e. less successful) is ridiculous.

damn man, did you hire a temp to post for you? 2/10

Very disappointing.

I gave it a click for funny. But now i'm not sure if that was a really awful troll or if Mike is actually a liberal but likes to tease people and get issues fleshed out with counterpoints.

Eh... it's more of a not-particularly great satire account.

Satanic_Hamster: Lsherm: No kidding.

ROMNEY, YOU AREN'T A COMMON MAN! QUIT TRYING TO ACT LIKE ONE!

When Obama farked up with his arugula comment, he didn't make the same mistake twice. Every time Romney opens his mouth, it's like he's trying to one-up himself. I fully expect a comment within the next week about how he really likes french fries because he steals a few from his maids whenever they have some. Maybe he could biatch about real estate taxes on second homes.

I still don't understand how anyone can consider that a fark up. You can buy arugula at any grocery store for close to the same price as other lettuce. And he was standing in a room of farmers who freaking RAISED arugula.

It's like the Grey Poupon thing. Obama orders Grey Poupon for his hamburger and the right-wing media goes off on him. "Ooooo, MUSTARD'S too good for him! Plus, it's FRENCH mustard! Elitist snob!" You've seen it for 4 years now. If they can beat Obama up for anything, they will. And they'll invent shiat if they can't find anything worthwhile. My favorite is lambasting him for supporting the Chicago Olympic bid. You saw how the Teabaggers cheered when a US city got dropped in the 2nd round of bidding. Just because Obama supported it. Incredible.

I'm surprised they didn't pounce on him for singing last week.

I know this is the whole purpose of strawman arguments. But when someone says something like "I have friends who are NASCAR team owners" or "Now, I know there are people in Congress who think I am doing the wrong thing.." or anything related to "those people" or "my friends".

...the VERY NEXT THING someone SHOULD ask is: "Yeah??? WHO?" I mean, this is the very first thing that you learn to ask when your 1st grader brings up these mysterious people; you'd think we'd hold elected officials to at least the same standard as that.

Very disappointing.

When LeBron James puts up 32, 8, and 7, they ask, "But did he win the title?"

When Michael Lowell writes what will be taught in schools a thousand years from now, they say, "2/10, very disappointing".

It's really just not fair. You should be able to blanket accuse everyone for attacking his religion, his wealth, and his changing political positions with no evidence. To have people point out the silliness of the statement just isn't fair to you.

It is just unfathomable that people would RESPOND and REFUTE your statement.

Everyone should've just accepted it and moved on.......on an internet message board designed for posting and replying.

They have GOT to be throwing the election. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Lose in 2012, allow the Democrats to go crazy pushing their "extreme" agenda. Start the campaign for 2016 immediately. They won't be against Obama so the whole race thing won't be in play. Their financiers are deliberately holding the economy back, as a result things will still look grim in 2016. They put forward a moderate candidate that isn't batshiat crazy, speaking in tongues because Jeebus, or a total retard. Everyone jumps desperately on the centrist who is financially conservative and socially liberal. Landslide victory in 2016.

Right? Please someone tell me I'm right.

Well, what it could do for HIM.

But that's the entire Republican point of capitalism, isn't it? Here's the system, at your feet. It's yours to work with to build your wealth. Everything he did was completely above-board and he completely played by the rules, regardless of how out-of-whack we think they are. He's the shining example of decades of business-friendly laws & loopholes.

Mind you, I'm hardly a Romney supporter--I think he's a shiat politician with absolutely no backbone or strength of will. I'm convinced he only got as far with Bain because of his father (and, Lord knows, Daddy's money surely helped). All I'm saying is that I'm stumped as to why he just doesn't dig in his heels and say, "Yeah, I did that. Isn't that the whole farking POINT?"

AngryDragon: They have GOT to be throwing the election. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Romney is there man to win. If Romney's campaign is throwing in the towel, it's either because his people have internally come to the conclusion that it's better to lose the primary than lose the general election (setting up a fall-guy like Santorum to end their career against Obama), or the order came from higher up the chain to abort mission for the same reason.

But I think it's far more likely that Romney simply doesn't know that regular people suffering under Republican austerity don't own their own NASCAR teams. He probably thinks the service staff on his private jets fly home on their own private jets. Doesn't everyone own a private jet?

Philip Francis Queeg: Does Romney have any advisers at all? It's hard to believe there is no one telling him to stop saying stuff like this.

Its clear that he doesn't have any advisers who are willing to speak to him frankly. After watching the way he reacts to questions he doesn't like in debates and interviews, it's easy to see why.

Keep in mind this is a guy who hasn't had a boss since the 1980s. And, for the last 20 years, he's been totally unemployed, except for a short stint as governor of a Massachusetts. Despite his youthful appearance, Romney is a fairly old guy, and I think years of not having a job have turned him into bitter old asshole who hasn't had to answer to anyone for too long.

Headso: The idea that social services that help people

An assumption on your part, and often incorrect and wildly so. My state (NY) spends more on social services than any other, mainly thanks to a colossal Medicaid program. I don't see much evidence that poorer New Yorkers are "helped" all that much, given what's being spent.

Take food stamps, for example. There is extensive research showing that people on food stamps consume more processed crap...not because they're lazy slobs, but because it's often either cheaper or more convenient, or both. Eventually they get fat. Eventually diabetes and heart disease develop.

A sane, compassionate and long-run-cheaper alternative would be to provide an equivalent amount of nutritious food instead of a benefits card.
