I wish these women wore signs.

WillyChase: The part about a magic number is spot on, I don't see why anyone would even care at all about a woman's (or man's) number unless they were feeling possessive or had "purity" issues.
Csb, I had a girlfriend once that was very interested in my past (names, times, etc) and not in a just curious way, it came off as insecure and clingy. I'd imagine that men who take an extreme interest in any women's past like that probably come off as the same.

I have found that 90% of North American women ask this utterly irrelevant question of how many came before her. It's the reason I've only gone after immigrants in the last many years. They're repression mature adults, comfortable with sexuality.

The number of people that you had sex with before the person you are with is completely irrelevant if you're both disease free. There's no reason to ask, there's no reason to know, it's just insecure puritanical sexual repression brought on by an overly religious upbringing. Think about it: Sex is a biological act. It's like asking someone how many times they've taken a piss before the last time they pissed.

I couldn't care less if the girl I'm with had 1000 men before me. She could've been a porn star for all I care. It doesn't and shouldn't matter.

RexTalionis: Julie Cochrane: Even if it weren't for the bad economy, flashing cash around to impress is vulgar, tacky, and the equivalent of pulling out a rubber stamp and stamping "jackass" on his forehead. It makes an impression, alright. Just...not a good one. Blech. Is he going to show up wearing thousand dollar tennis shoes and a pound of bling, too?

Eh, I typically insist on paying for dinner. Then again, I'm something of a bon vivant when it comes to having a good meal, so I often run up the check, so I feel I should at least pay for the meal. Is that odd?

/Yeah, I sound fat.

I'll let a guy insist on paying, as long as it's clear I don't expect him to pay and my offer to pay my own way is not pro forma.

OTOH, I'm odd in another way. Getting into my "friend zone" is not a dumping ground, it's an achievement---the key card that gets one into the building. [shrug]

Read some of the crap attitudes toward women on this thread and the mystery will be solved.

For some strange reason, we don't like sleeping with men who have no respect for and hate us.

Go fig.

The success rate of my friends suggests the opposite. The ones who think you are nothing more than holes for dick to swim in easily do the best.

In all seriousness, I resent the implication of this headline and article.

We are sexual beings, and the female of our species is the sex-keeper, so by all means she should be the sexy we require, and we should all just relax a bit, please.

Good sex is learned via practice.

Love sex is another matter entirely...

//well, except for the one woman that took me to the Nashville aquarium. we were gone all day, had a pretty awesome time, had some awesome sex at about 3 AM when we got back in town, imagine my surprise when I got home later and her husband called me wanting to know where his wife was...
///had no idea she was married......

Since as far as I can determine there's no Nashville Aquarium, I've been trying to figure out where you actually went, frepnog. I've come to the conclusion this woman and her husband put you down with potent hallucinogens and had their way with you.

Bazinga In My Pants: On average, the typical single woman is seeing 1.46 men at any one time, the researchers found (although how a girl gets to know .46 of a man remains a mystery).

It might not be a mystery if you read the first two words of your own sentence, tard.

Pumpernickel bread: Nothing intersting there. They are talking about dating and meeting several different people in order to find the one that fits best is the whole point of dating. Now, if they had credible evidence showing one in four married women had two guys on the side, then the term "whore" would be appropriate.

Perhaps the rules have changed and women feel the need to be more forward as men are rightfully shying away from marraige. Greater than 50% chance any one marraige is going to fail and it is almost always the guy that gets drilled in the ass by the courts when it does. Understandably, they are reluctant to take that step, so the women are the ones crossing that divide at increasingly higher rates.

My advice to the guys would still be don't do it, unless all three of these apply 1) You are interetested in starting a family. Not worth it unless this is true 2) You are both in a place conducive to starting a family (i.e. finished with school, respectable income) and 3) this is most important, she is worth it. Shouldn't go marrying a batshiat crazy woman just because she is great in bed or looks good in a bikini. It is women like that that five years down that road that will end up with half your shiat and spending your money on some guy that just dropped out of college.

So what if 3)she is worth it, and 1)neither of you want kids? Should you still not get married? I wouldn't marry a guy who wanted kids. That's something I would make very clear. But if I were going to commit to a lifelong relationship, I would prefer to be married than to stay common-law indefinitely.

Also, I'm surprised at the lack of discussion about women proposing to men. RLY?! This happens?!?! o_0 I've never heard of women proposing on leap day, either.

I may be the only girl in the world to say this, but I really dislike the idea of a surprise marriage proposal anyway. I just don't like this notion that the guy thinks it over himself and then pops the question and the woman just (usually) agrees on a whim. If I ever get married I would much rather be in a situation where we discuss future plans as the relationship progresses and just reach a point where we decide we'll eventually get married. Why so many women drool at the thought of a marriage proposal, I'll never understand.

/chronically single anyway
//so it doesn't much matter

except that it DOES matter. a person that will hop into bed with just anyone more than likely has some issues that need to be addressed; and there is also the issue that someone that will hop into bed with just anyone before YOU came along is also likely to hop into bed with someone ELSE after you came along, relationship be damned.

Do I care that my wife had boyfriends and had sex before she met me? NO. Would I care if she had jumped into bed with a few hundred guys before me? YES.

That's for three reasons:

One, because once you get past your twenties or so, those guys have learned to at least pay the fare for the ride---that is, provide enough stimulation to be an improvement over a night with the vibrator. "Hitachi Superiority Factor." Sadly, some of the nice guys haven't.

Two, those guys can be counted on to give up the goods and then pull on their jeans and go the fark away with minimal trouble. At worst it would (theoretically) take some faked clinging and sappy emotionalism to get rid of one. Nice guys want to stick around.

Three, bad boys don't have a heart to break. Nice guys might get hurt.

Addendum on the "don't respect us and hate us." Well, yeah. Human predators are very good at wearing masks--it's their natural defense, it's how they hunt. The guys you're talking about probably have very good masks they wear when hunting prey. You may see behind the mask, but the prey doesn't.

I somehow disbelieve that the various farkers complaining about women (this has been another great thread for populating my ignore list with he worst of the trolls and the extreme examples of bitter) are master PUAs just dropping their masks on fark for our edification.

I've met guys who were highly skilled PUAs. They don't just lack respect for women. They lack respect for almost everybody, pretty much equally. The best ones are not a big hate-fest for women or a big love-fest for guys. Generally speaking, they're a fairly narcissistic bunch--many to a clinical degree.

There's a difference between being a highly skilled "player" with little conscience who is contemptuous of the "prey" sex versus just being a bitter person with baggage.

I say this as someone who has worked hard and continues to work hard at not being a bitter person with baggage.

(And in my case, I subscribe to one of the PUA newsletters so I'll recognize the moves and have a better chance of sidestepping them. And yeah, it's been helpful. Why yes, I do realize that's cheating. [evil grin])

frepnog: first off - I am almost 40. my "number" is around 15. I am also a guy.

I am telling you this - a woman that has slept with 15-18 guys by her mid twenties has some issues. Because that number generally means she will sleep with pretty much anyone that asks her out.

Is this what they call "moving the goalposts"?

At least you're starting to show a little bit of internal logic, as someone who sleeps with anyone who asks/anyone they can is likely to hit triple digits by 25, not just 15 - 18.

I knew a guy who had more than 100 partners before he was 23, he wasn't an asshole or anything, he was a genuinely nice guy, but he was one of the "lower intimacy sex" types, and had little difficulty finding willing partners of similar mindsets- though he also had some multi-month relationships during which he always remained faithful to his partner. Yes, he did have some issues. But there's a big difference between 15-20 and 100-200
