Now that's nonchalance.

Search Google for the Ruins of Detroit, very sad to see some of the culture that once existed there just rotting away.

Google "Zimbabwe" for comparison.

The solution to all of the former industrial cities woes is quite simple and ugly. Shoot anybody with more than two violent felonies in the face and use them for crop food after you reclaim all unused parcels for farming. The fact that this is, at this point, the only VIABLE solution, other than stringing up a few bankers for good measure, makes be feel pretty lousy, believe you me. Crime goes to about 0, land is productive. Is that some pathetic sh*t or what? We had the ride, folks, and we squatted and sh*t on it like we were expecting a thank you note for the efforts. We had a tidy little economy, everybody wanted what we made and, for the most part, we were starting to mop up the mess from the civil war. Now it's a class war. And most of the people stirring up the sh*t don't even know who the enemy is.

This, in spades.

I've seen wealthy white people with plenty of money and all the time in the world act more "ghetto" than poor starving black people without two nickels to rub together.

A year or so ago, my agency (federal) announced opening a satellite office in Detroit. Now they've just announced the exact location that the office will be located. 300 River Place Dr. in Detroit, Michigan 48207. Anyone know anything about that location?

The best part is that they've had an internal job listing for a head trainer at this new satellite location. It's been up for the past 7 months, with a closing date that started at about 2 months and has been continually extended. Out of the 10000 people at my agency, I'm assuming exactly zero have applied for this position.

They could have literally picked anywhere in the entire US to put this satellite office. Someone chose Detroit. And needs to be punched in the face.

I'm gonna go with neither.

The money started pulling out around '79, folks and the money IS the government.

They wrote off making stuff here, anymore, and moved the machine to China. Wake up. Schools? They suck. Public schools do, anyhoo, because when they stopped investing making things, they stopped investing in free education for the people who would get just enough education to use a micrometer, gauge blocks and turret lathes.

They decided that any jobs here would have either very white collars or very gold shields and everybody else could fend for themselves, cause you can make more money when your plant staff works for shiny beads and gruel and can't speak English.

There is no more urban renewal, there is not more investment, there is just poverty and decay and the infrastructure in place - that made them enough money to set up shop elsewhere to begin with - is no more of any use to them than a burned out 79 Monte Carlo in a field of bricks sand weeds. The collapsed economy, Wall St. stripping the paint of the wall, partisan hackery on an eight grade schoolyard level an OWS are just different hues of the same sh*t brown aftermath of the tail end of a very large and very old business plan.

If you're not an attorney, a broker, a politician, IT R&D, a good cook or a hooker, start packing up the plantation. Cause the money already did.

The rust belt is f*cked because there's no reason for it not to be. American cars and appliances were hot sh*t for a while. Now, they're just waiting for it to work up a nice rot to the point where Monsanto will buy it for 10.00 and some IOUs and farm it again. For Freedom™.

There's a billion plus strong market that can't wait to immerse themselves in commerce culture and buy all the crap we already have three of. We're not the cool kid on the block anymore.

When it really matters the only person you can rely on is yourself. It makes no difference if you are old, or weak, or stupid, or ignorant. Reality doesn't care about your whining and your feelings. You use the resources you have available and if you just aren't good enough then you will fail, and under some circumstances failure might mean death.

If another person is willing to expend their resources to prevent your failure then good for them but expecting that to happen all the time is a recipe for defeat. And constantly relying on the help of others might just make you fail in a situation when it matters but there is no help available, where maybe you could have succeeded on your own if you had only tried instead of expecting the world to solve your problems.

Machinist? Was in the trade forty forevers, retired now (just in time). Was a conventional machinist, prototype work one of a kind, and seen the writing on the wall when everything went CNC and the machinist became nothing more then operators making thousands of the same thing, and you better use that file between parts.
Even that went away when they shipped it all to Japan (at the time) then to Korea then China.

Some people come here to discuss things and their underlying causes. This sometimes leads to useful consensus.

Some people come here to pull their mouth open with their fingers and stick their tongue out and fart loudly.

Others come here to smear poop on the windows.

Ignore is as useful a filter and any, I suppose.

Actually, a man is good until the day he dies. Ask any female nurse or nurses assistant who worked in a nursing home.

Hopefully, they'll catch the bugger who jacked this guy and maybe he'll 'resist arrest' on the way in when the camera's are off.

As for those who walked by the old guy, I hold nothing but contempt for them. Judge Mathis always brags about Detroit, but the city basically needs to be wiped off the map.

I've been in a few situations where I had the choice to act or walk away, and I acted. I would hope that if anything happens to me, someone will come to my aid.

I've worked in a nursing home as a health care aide. The nurses and other hcas there were bitter miserable people waiting for death themselves and could care less about the people they were taking care of

I lasted a month, coudn't take it anymore and got a great job in the hospital. At least I don't have to watch people sit in their own feces and urine anymore without anyone to care for them
