JerseyTim: KatjaMouse: The English Major: Why all the Meryl Streep hate?

I'll be honest. I didn't get all the Streep hype until I saw Angels in America. Now I'm in the cult too.

Ever see Sophie's Choice? I mean.. sheesh.

Yeah, that's a...that's a hell of a film. Though now I'm reminded of Modern Family, when Cam talks about his love for Streep.

Tom Cruise should get a Lifetime Achievement Award for pretending to be a heterosexual.

Hugo or Artist but Moneyball could be the troll pick

2012-02-26 11:34:19 PM
I say The Artist will win.

2012-02-26 11:34:20 PM
Three Paris movies nominated. Weird.

2012-02-26 11:34:27 PM
So, the 9/11 movie is winning right (will they even show clips from it or pretend it wasn't nominated)

2012-02-26 11:34:34 PM
Hugo! Hugo! Hugo!

/I know it'll be the Artist though...

ElizaDoolittle: There goes my pool. WFT even watched that film?

was it even out in 2011? I didn't see commercials for it until January.

2012-02-26 11:35:01 PM
Hope it's The Help

2012-02-26 11:35:28 PM
The Artist for the win just so it can be the first "silent" film in years to win (even though it is not 100 percent silent)

bobbette: The English Major: I guess I don't hate her because I haven't seen Mamma Mia.

I loved her in Mamma Mia. It's a fluffy, fun ABBA musical. Don't expect more than that, and you'll like it too.

Me too. It was a charming musical. And it starred a lot of great actors. It wasn't Oscar-worthy, though.

skinink: Three Paris movies nominated. Weird.

Hugo and Midnight in Paris are only two. There is no third. The Artist takes place in Los Angeles and was filmed there.

DamnYankees: By the way, I genuinely think Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol should have been nominated for Best Picture.

Didn't see it. But the best film I saw this year was Drive.

eddievercetti: Hugo or Artist but Moneyball could be the troll pick

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close would be the Troll Pick. That book was awful, and from what I've seen of the movie it was too.

Is anyone rooting for War Horse? the horse that leaves a trail of dead in his wake?

Surprise!

2012-02-26 11:36:00 PM
Tom Cruise looks different.

2012-02-26 11:36:03 PM
I'm secretly rooting for Moneyball. I don't even know why.

2012-02-26 11:36:07 PM
Yup..the Artist

2012-02-26 11:36:07 PM

SquiggelyGrounders: I can understand political threads getting this long since politics actually mater. Is it the dresses, the speeches, celebrity drama? For fark sake people, is this really that important?

No it isn't. That's the goddamn point.

Your politics aren't changed by a thread on Fark. Nothing changes here. Who cares what people talk about?

Drive was very good. MIPC was one of the best action movies of the past decade, IMO.

UGGIE!!!

2012-02-26 11:36:42 PM
I feel like The Artist winning is the Academy's way of giving the award to Uggie.

2012-02-26 11:36:42 PM
Love that the dog is on stage. But I will probably never see this movie.

2012-02-26 11:36:43 PM
I LOVE UGGIE.

2012-02-26 11:36:52 PM
And the Oscar goes to....9 beers favorite film!

2012-02-26 11:37:00 PM
This makes me so happy. :D

2012-02-26 11:37:02 PM
GIVE THE DOG A LINE DAMMIT!

2012-02-26 11:37:02 PM
Take a bow Uggie!

A crap would be funnier.

2012-02-26 11:37:04 PM
I had never even heard of this movie before tonight.

It's such an easy watch. Hype is high, but it's pretty enjoyable.

TheManofPA: The Artist for the win just so it can be the first "silent" film in years to win (even though it is not 100 percent silent)

In addition, things like the sound of a telephone ringing wouldn't be in a true silent film. Most showings outside of the biggest cities had a live piano for the sound and NOTHING ELSE.

Look at Uggie not even paying attention. Like a boss!

Uranus Megahertz: Hope it's The Help

Silent Film > White Guilt

Sorry for all the cheerleaders, but The Help never had a chance tonight.

2012-02-26 11:37:36 PM
The Artist sucked my ass.

2012-02-26 11:37:40 PM
G'night, all. It's been real.

Uggie makes me smile every time I see him.

The movie isn't even positive on rottentomatoes. Whereas...THE MUPPETS was very positive (I know, it has no chance in hell)

2012-02-26 11:37:53 PM
Alright goodnight all!

2012-02-26 11:37:57 PM
I'll say this - The Artist is the most deserving winner since Return of the King, in my opinion. I think this is the rare time the Oscar actually went to the best movie of the year.

2012-02-26 11:38:03 PM
I didn't know Penelope Ann Miller was still alive.
