adios!

It's last Saturday's Bud Shootout. They'll probably show one of this week's Qualifying races next. Gotta fill that time while people wait for the official word.

I hadn't seen last Saturday's Bud Shootout, and I don't watch much racing in general.

I need to be reminded, is Kurt or Kyle the Busch everyone hates? 'Cause Kyle seemed to have people bumping and gunning for him the whole race, and he pulled a miracle win directly out of his ass, that was pretty awesome to watch.

Everybody hates them both, myself included.

That said, I'm willing to give them both all the credit in the world for being enormously talented.

I'm rain. You're running the biggest event of the year today and a quarter-million people are expecting sun. But I've got other ideas.

(stands on track, aiming firehose straight up, then aims it at fans) Ha ha ha!

You have sponsors who demand five hours of airtime. Hope they sell umbrellas. And now, all you can do is sit there and watch high-performance engines doing a blistering... zero miles an hour while people at home are treated to a race they already saw last week.

And if you have cut-rate insurance, you could be paying for this festival of boredom yourself. So get Allstate. You can save money and be better protected from mayhem... like me.

(aims firehose at Hollywood Hotel)

There are almost no drivers now who are back country yokels, hell fewer than half are even southerners.

I suspect the issue is that with most teams based in North Carolina, the regional accent has crept into their speech patterns.

As an example: I am a native of California, born of a Canadian mother. I live in Texas and have a SO that is from Brooklyn, NY. All three of those factors have found their way into my speech patterns and accent. No one understands a word I say, unless it is written down.

Complete differences in body styles, aerodynamics and center of gravity between the car styles would have a NASCAR race on a wet track, even with rain tires, look like a remake of that drivers' education classic "Red Asphalt".

like a banked oval makes it harder to race in the rain? A banked track doesn't have water pool into puddles.

And Rory is just choking this one away.

Obscene_CNN: like a banked oval makes it harder to race in the rain?

On a banked oval in the turns the forces want to push you up the turn, you don't have enough grip and you will go up into the wall. The contact area of a tire with treads is a good bit smaller than that of a slick, and that alone could be enough to send a car up into the wall. Add in a wet track, and you'd either have half the field up in the wall after 5 laps or everyone running at 50 mph.

I remember then trying to run the All-Star Race once on a track that was only half-dry. There were no survivors.

Formula one runs on rain tires on a flat track where the forces to push you into the wall are much greater. They also have to deal with water forming puddles on the track. They don't all end up in the wall. Some how I would think that NASCAR drivers are better than Seattle drivers in snow.

Used to; The rain tires had rotted out and weren't being used, so NASCAR and Goodyear junked them. Don't think they've manufactured any more.

I can translate Canafornexan into almost any living language except Low Guidostoniadelphian or TFD Submitter . But once you add Brooklyn to the mix all bets are off.

Heheh. Thanks.

----------------------------

Santorum is bitterly disappointed that NASCAR has banned lubing up your rear end.

The rest of the drivers hope Tony Raines's car handles well, because they don't want to have to deal with Santorum all over the track.

And didn't F1 try to finish out a race on a wet oval last year, despite the drivers screaming that it wasn't possible? And didn't that end with a multi-car crash under caution?

2012-02-26 04:17:52 PM
I should say, F1 cars generally do not take corners at speed that is as relatively close to "top" speed as they do in NASCAR.

Interestingly enough, I've seen a semi-truck slide (while "stopped"... at least moving forward) down a banked curve that was probably 1/5 as steep as the banks at Daytona. Then again, it was icy out...

Sounds like that is a tire manufacturer problem or an excuse. Maybe Nascar should allow competition in tires.

They tried that. It ended up in killing drivers. Reason was, they were making faster tires at the cost of safe tires.

Hey, I'd love to see a tire war. I think Goodyear puts out a pretty shoddy product. Michelin would probably be successful (despite the Indy debacle), and I'm damn sure Bridgestone/Firestone would do well.
